Dr. Dre article - M. Elizondo speaks about Detox

It's pretty short, but here goes anyway...

Dr. Dre Hoping To 'Shock' On Next Album

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

It's been six years since hip-hop legend Dr. Dre's last studio album, and its planned follow-up, reportedly titled "Detox," seems no closer to completion. But one of his key collaborators tells Billboard.com Dre is continuing to work on new music and still plans to release another album, even if it takes several more years to do the job right.

"There will be another Dr. Dre solo album, without a doubt," says bassist Mike Elizondo, who began working with the artist on the 1999 album "Dr. Dre -- 2001" and has since been a fixture on Dre-produced recordings by Xzibit, Eminem and the Game.

"Dre has very high standards," Elizondo responded when asked what is taking so long. "He wants to shock the world and put something out that no one would have ever thought possible from a hip-hop artist. He's definitely going to take his time and make sure it's right, but there will be a collection of songs that will come out as a Dr. Dre solo album."

However, the timetable for finishing the album remains murky. Asked if Elizondo had played on any of the tracks to date, he replied, "We've been working. There's a team assembled and we'll definitely continue moving forward on that."

"Dr. Dre -- 2001" debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Doesn't really say much does it? Just what we know - Dre sure likes to take his time when making an album...

I think Dre's afraid that if he doesn't knock this one out of the park, it might tarnish his reputation, so he's waiting for something that will change the soundscape of hiphop/r&b again.  Nothing I've heard him do since 2001 has been as revolutionary as the stuff on that album, so hopefully he's got some things in the back of his head that he wants to do.  I liked the idea that Mellowman was talking about, Dre doing like a ghetto orchestra with a quincy jones/funk/rap feel.  I think that would be the perfect way to go out on top.

You guys expect too much from Dre, and the problem is... Dre knows that, so that leaves him in a tough position.

as sad and unfair as that is, it's kind of true, "Detox" is already so goddamn anticipated, that even with a career that he's had, it will hurt his career if it doesn't live up to everyones expectations

but even if it isn't all that great, he's still a legend no matter what
it's just that so many people are expecting it to change the game, blow them away, be the best thing ever
if it's not it's gonna dissapoint a lot, and unfairly, it will hurt him...........

very very unfair if it were to happen though, but that's the position it's unfortunately been put in since he's waited so long

From Ruthless to Deathrow the D.R.E was knocking out full classic records along with remixes, tracks here and there including  some songs ending up in the vault at a speedy rate. For some reason the music output has slowed down when he set up Aftermath until Eminem came along and the era around Chronic 2001.
It seems he still spends as much time in the studio recording left right n centre but he dont release music like he used to for what ever reasons, most of it proably just ends up in the vault.

Untill his next solo record he should flood the market and cash in with his unreleased shit, that shit would proably outsell most artists new shit and quality wise it would proably be the best music heard in a long time.

The problem is that we are expecting a classic, and nothing less. The build-up and severe overhype might just kill the album for alotta people. That's why I'm just expecting a dope album, so if and when it drops, I'll be satisfied in any case.

What's the bad thing is that if this album is not as good as expected then it will be called a flop. Even if it is a tight ass album but just lacks something (even the most little thing) it will get a bad rep. Thats why I agree that he gotta knock this shit out the park and make catz fiend for another Dre album. I also believe that Dre still needs to find that new hot mc to help put his album where it needs to be, just like he did wit Em and Snoop before he needs another cat like them to set it off. Im not doubtin' Dre tho, when his shit drop u know its gonna be hot!
