Kwame Seeking Second Opinion

INDIANAPOLIS - Kwame Brown has decided to seek a second opinion on the severely sprained left ankle that has kept him out of 16 straight games.

Lakers public relations director John Black said Brown would leave the Lakers the day after Monday's game in Atlanta to fly back here for a Wednesday appointment with an ankle specialist.

The specialist is unavailable until then because he's with the Indianapolis Colts in Miami for the Super Bowl.

"He's getting better, but slowly," Black said of Brown.

Revisiting Caron-for-Kwame

The trade in which the Lakers acquired Brown and sent Caron Butler to Washington looks lopsided, and not in favor of LA.

Butler has been selected to his first All-Star game while Brown is just trying to get back on the court. Even before Brown's injury, Butler's numbers far surpassed his.

The Lakers, in desperate need of frontcourt depth, sent Butler and Chucky Atkins to the Wizards for Brown during the summer of 2005.

"We didn't want to have to trade him (Butler), but we had to give up something to get a big man," Coach Phil Jackson said. "At that particular point we needed a big man in this organization ... and Caron was the guy that had to go in that situation. I didn't have the opportunity to coach him, but I liked the way he played."

Butler is averaging career highs in points (20.6), rebounds (8.0), assists (3.9) and steals (2.0) and will be on display tonight when his Wizards host the Lakers. Brown is averaging 8.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in 24 games.

Butler probably could have started for the Lakers, but they were loaded with small forwards, and he most likely wouldn't have averaged 20 points in the triangle offense.

"That's a little bit difficult to say unless our offense got really high-powered," Jackson said. "And I think that his game fits very well with theirs (in Washington) -- slashing, quick, operating with their offense. He's very good."

Walton Update

Luke Walton won't play tonight but hopes he'll return soon after sitting out his fourth straight game with a sprained right ankle.

Following tonight's game, the Lakers have a day off before they play at Atlanta. They have two days off before Thursday's game at Detroit.

"If all goes well, I'm hoping for Monday," Walton said. "I can walk on it without pain. That's good. There's a little bit of swelling but nothing too bad."

Super Bowl Plug?

Told about LeBron James' takedown of Dwyane Wade during Thursday's game between Cleveland and Miami, Jackson had an idea of what the NBA should do to protect its players.

"We should start wearing helmets with facemasks," he cracked.

Sasha is Garbage....I hope he's not wearing a Lakers jersey next season!

Hot Heads
Feb 3 - Sasha Vujacic screamed at Lamar Odom, "Shut the (expletive) up!"

That furious exclamation ended an intense argument -- one that had featured towels thrown in anger -- between the Lakers teammates.

Of the dispute between Odom and Vujacic, Kobe Bryant said: "They've just got to learn that there's nothing they can do about it. That's what I was telling 'em. It?s almost comical. There's nothing you can do by shouting or yelling.

"If my wife's mad at me because I didn't put the toilet seat down, what am I going to do? I've got to put it down the next time. What are you going to do? You can't sit there and bite my head off. I didn't put it down; I'll put it down next time. Right? So you've just got to move on." -- Orange County Register

Lol at people who called Kobe a ballhog... Arenas 9-29 , 3-15 from downtown... Kobe said he will be ready.. it seems like Gilbert didn't handle the pressure or did he want to prove he's on Kobe level ?? Homie please  :-X.. Anyway nice win, Lamar stepped it up in the 2nd half, Smush and Andrew had solid games too

Los Angeles Holds Off Washington
Kobe Bryant exploded for a game-high 39 points for the Lakers as they defeated the Wizards, 118-102, on Saturday. Los Angeles managed to grab a 10-point lead at the end of the third quarter and never looked back. Lamar Odom logged a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Andrew Bynum added 12 and 13.

Lakers need to win the next 4 games & end this road trip on a 5 game winning streak....fuck playing .500 ball....the clippers are right behind us....if they catch up to us I'm going to be so pissed off.... >:(

And Bynum is starting to become a double -double player....i think he's already better then Kwame.....only difference is that man strength..Bynum can't guard the big boys like Kwame can.

And we need to stop shooting so many 3's...i don't like that we've become a "Live by the 3 Die by the 3" type of team  :-\

And the defense needs to improve to if we want to go on a winning streak!

Kobe Missed Dunk and Redemption 360 Dunk

Kobe has some good Dunks this season  ;D  8)  ....i love that 360 dunk 8)

That depends. Kwame is more of a defensive big man, Bynum is supposed to be a reliable scoring option.

The Lakers continue their 8-game road trip as they travel south to matchup with Joe Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks. Los Angeles currently leads the season series 1-0. TV coverage will be tape delayed until 5:30 by KCAL/9.
