He probably writes less now than when he started but he's more than likely still heavily involved in the writing process.

When it was time to do Deep Cover, Dre brought Snoop to his house and they were going to write but it was late so they just went to sleep (not together), then in the morning Dre went down to Snoop told him the hook (tonight's the night I get in some shit, deep cover on that incognito tip) and told him to have the track done by the time he was back from the gym.

Damn, that's on some house negro type shit.

Sound like Snoop was Dre's bitch. No wonder they ain't that close anymore.

I heard that he wrote for himself and some for Eazy on efil4zaggin...Ren said that in an interview

every article about the d.o.c. mentions that he wrote dre and eazy's lyrics on efil4zaggin.  i won't even call it ghostwriting seeing as he has writers credits for almost every song except the mc ren solo "she swallowed it" and "prelude".

"real niggaz" (originally off 100 miles and running) and "findum, fuckum and flee" are the only songs dre appears on that the d.o.c. does not get writers credit for.  [and also eazy e's "i'd rather fuck you" which dre may have written] interestingly, only dre and the d.o.c. get writers credits for "one less bitch", although ren also appears on the track.  i think it's clear that the d.o.c. wrote the overwhelming majority of dre's lyrics on efil4zaggin.  "

MC Ren - Yeah, he wrote some of his shit. He write some of his shit and some of his shit he don't write. You can tell shit he writes. D.O.C. would write a lot of Dre's shit too. You could tell when you hear a lot of Dre shit if DOC wrote it.

Anyways, one thing I find strange about Dre not writing his own shit anymore... He wasn't even a bad writer... Just not amazing. It's not like the songs he wrote by himself weren't classics or anything.

Personally, I think you can tell who wrote the song usually by the lyrics pretty easily.  Dre has a certain style, he definitely used to write some of his own stuff back then.  On the Chronic, you can hear Snoop & the D.O.C.'s type of lyrics all over the place, but some are just Dreish.  Then on some of the newer stuff, you can tell Eminem wrote it, or whatever just the way it's structured and the way it rhymes.
