Look, here has been my theory for a long time. I started by saying Brady was only seen as elite because of the system he was in, and a great system can make a good QB a great one, and a poor system can make a good QB a bad one. Brady got injured and I said they'd go 11-5 or 12-4, the week it happened. People laughed at me. Well they went 11-5. The next year when all the trades took place I said Cassel would crumble, Cutler would suffer, and Orton would excel. Everything happened as I said it would. No one gave me credit, but that's fine. Now I am saying that Cassel will excel once again under Weis because Weis's whole deal is creating an offense that excels despite lack of individual talent. Cassel knows the Weis system and Weis knows that. The only thing that I can see changing my opinion is if Weis decides in training camp that Croyle is the way to go, or makes a play for Quinn. But if Cassel starts the season with the Chiefs next year, he will play unless he gets injured and he will have a year like he had in 08.
How the team does will depend on how the defense changes. But the offense of the Chiefs next year with Weis, Cassel, and Charles will be amazing. I'm calling it now. We'll see by this time next year if I can notch another I told you so on my belt or if I will say I was wrong, which I do every time I am wrong.

I don't give him grief for that. My problem with the guy in "do this, we'll win" is that "this" only applies to certain things. Manning functions the same way. He was brought in to Indy and told "do this, we'll win". Manning's "this" was throw amazing passes to covered WRs under pressure from pass rushers. Brady's "this" was throw screens to WRs and let complicated blocking schemes gain yardage. My argument is simple. As it stands it's 3SBs to 1 SB, 4 MVPs to 1 MVP. If they switched teams it would be 4 or 5 SBs to ZERO SBs and 5 MVPs to ZERO MVPs. Because I believe that Manning can do Brady's "this" all day, and when the other "this" is needed to win he could do that too. While I don't think, and it's because I've seen him crumble when he had to(like in SB against NYG, AFC Champ against Indy, Divisional against Den, and last week against Balt), Brady can do Manning's "this". No one ever argued that Scott Pioli and Bill Bellicheck didn't build a better team than Polian, Mora, and Dungy. I don't think Indy could have broken .500 once this decade with out Manning. I did think NE could win 11 games with out Brady. I was right. I can't prove Indy would lose all year, but my insight should count for something.

I also thought it was interesting that Cassel went 11-5 last year, and Brady only went 10-6 this year with basically all the same team.
And Shallow, you predicted that Cassel would crumble, which is technically true because he had a rough year. But I saw every game the Chiefs played this year, and it was NOT Cassel's fault. THE CHIEFS LEAD THE LEAGUE IN DROPPED PASSES AND IN SACKS GIVEN UP. So how can a quarterback operate when your team is leading in such categories? Also, Larry Johnson was still the Chiefs started running back for the first half of the season, and the GUY ONLY AVERAGED 2.7 YARDS A CARRY!! So no threat of a running game for most of the season, all the recievers and tightends except Dwayne Bowe were cut from other teams and picked up by the Chiefs over the course of the season, scrubs like Bobby Wade, Mark Bradley and Lance Long were starters for the Chiefs at different points in the season. Also, two of the starting linemen were also brought in off the streets after being cut from their respective teams during the season.
So when you consider what Matt Cassel had to contend with I would say he did great last season. And don't worry about Croyle being a threat at starter because that guy has never been any good and is like 0-9 as a starter.

I'd question him more than I do now, and of it was only 3 SBs yeah, but if it was 5 or 6 in one decade and I saw the tough throws when they were needed I can't imagine any other QB, this decade, I'd bring to the argument. I'm not a big Jordan fan, and I raise questions about his 80s record when he played against legends, but in the 90s he was the bewst with out question and there isn't another 90s ball player I can put with him. Same for Tiger in his era. You may be right that I wouldn't be the same fan of Peyton I am today, but I wouldn't dare question his greatness or him being the best of the decade.

He took Addai to the parking lot of Addai's building and for the next two hours ran every play Addai wasn't sure of until her was sure of it. They finished just before 3 AM. Indy won the SB that year and Addai was a big part of it.
That's what you get with Peyton Manning, a true leader and general. A single man that can change an offense, and how well they play. Cassel isn't that kind of man. But I believe Wies is. And on defense I believe Crennel is. Now if egos clash or the head coach really isn't cut for the job then you may have problems. I don't predict playoffs in year one, but I predict huge improvement with playoffs being possible for most of the season. By year two I predict playoffs, unless something falls apart.

Yeah it sounds like your pretty much on point. And that most average to above-average quarterbacks could have probably stepped into that Wiess system and had success.
As for Cassel not being a leader. I still think that he is a leader, and I think that Brady is a leader. But definitely not on the level of Peyton Manning. I mean, nobody I can think of is on the level of Peyton Manning, as your story shows.

Personally speaking, and just QBs in the last decade; Drew Brees, the very recent Donovan McNabb (he used to be the worst), Bret Favre before the retirement games, Kurt Warner, Ben is really getting there (his taking fault for his actions is key), McNair in Tennessee, Flutie (yes he did play this decade for a bit), I feel Aaron Rodgers will get there very soon the way he's going, Jake Plummer in Arizona, Chad Pennington in Miami.
That's just off the top of my head. I thinking of QBs that the players will not only rally around and follow, but guys that command the kind of respect from the team that means you worry a bit as a player when he comes an has a word with you. Matt needs time to grow, he may get there. Brady, and it's one of the reasons I turned on him, and not because I'm against him already, still comes off as an arrogant prick that takes too much credit. And I think it'll show itself in his later years when he will get forced out rather than allowed to leave when he wants. Bret asked for the boot but if he never teased retirement he'd still be in Green Bay. Marino was allowed to stay until he felt it was time and out of respect they'd never tell him to go. It's just my opinion.
Now if we extend it to non-QBs, I put Ray Lewis neck and neck with Manning. Ed Reed is way up there too. Bruschi and Seymour as well.
