Now before you start cussing me out for saying ANYTHING negative about Dre just listen. I'm not syaing the new beats he puts out(GRODT soundtrack, Massacre, Encore...) are wack as fuck, but they are NOTHING when compared to the shit he was dropping 4-5 years ago. His beats on Top Dogg, Mashell mathers LP, Last Meal, and Restless shit on anything he's being putting out the last couple years. I won't even begin to compare his beats these days to Chronic, Doggystyle, and Chronic 2001
and know we're supposed to think that when Detox drops he's going to suddenly drop the most amzing beats ever made? I'm sure it'll be dope but it just won't touch his past shit

People said he had fell off before 2001. Dre isn't going to change his style before Detox so I'm not expecting any of his current beats to blow me away and yes they are pretty weak but I don't think Dre is going to give his best beats to 50 Cent anyway.

I think some of it is that he had a lot of generic sounding beats that he kept giving people, and they started to sound the same. However, i will say that his beats on Obie Trice's album were fuckin sick. I think those were def some of Dre's better beats in the last few years.

Your on a westcoast forum, most people here got into music during the g-funk era. Most people here HATE ALL of todays music unless it's some underground westcoast artist thats still doing the same shyt. Maybe some of you need to realise that the beats Dre is doing nowadays are HOT to the new generation.
That said I'm sure Detox will still be enjoyable to everyone who ever loved hiphop music, I got faith 8)

I disagree. His beats on 2001 where classic, but get very old quick, and are all very similar. Saying that, Dre still does have his own sound. But beats like In da club, higher, Outta control, are classics. His songs on the masscare (besides outta control), encore, and GRODT soundtrack were very weak, actually, almost unlisenable. His beats are getting less consistant, but he still can make huge hits.

remember his shit on SSLP before chronic 2001 dropped? he was dropping absolute ass beats. it goes in cycles, i wouldn't worry about it at all. when dre puts his effort into something it comes off amazing, so whatever.

well dre style has changed because he is not working with the same players on the marshal mathers LP it was dr.dre and mel man producing the tracks dr.dre does not really work with mel man now, he works more with mike elizondo is a co producer and scott storch and mark batson. Camara kambon who helped alot on 2001 doesnt really work with him much thats why his beats sound a little diffrent now i mean on detox im pretty sure all those people will be back but as of right now its just dre and elizondo and storch thats why the beats sound diffrent from past ones cause mel man aint on em.

I can't really complain too much about Dre's beats lately. Sure, he's dropped a few in the last year that shouldn't be considered his best work, but he ain't slipping, imo. It's just that period of time where he's not tryna release anything mind blowing. Why would be release his dopest beats now, when Detox is supposed to drop within the next 12 months?

a lot of those beats are good but the artist just ruined em. like "Gunz Come Out" or "Big Weenie". both great beats but Eminem & 50 came weak on them (listen to how Papoose ripped the "Gunz Come Out" beat).
but even dre's weak beats are 2 steps ahead of most producers best tracks

As for detox, you know its gonna have crazy beats because everytime (okay, both times) Dre came out with an album it been fire. When he is focused, can nobody stop him.

Well "How we do" was a very big song, and "In da club" is arguably one of the biggest rap songs in history as far as the # of times it was played and just how much of an impact it had.
I see what you are sayin though...we don't hear too much from Dre, and when we do, it's usually never anything that has us in "wow". I have heard more beats from Quik, Timbo, and Rick Rock in the last few years that just had me wilin out than from Dre. But I do think he is savin his best for Detox, because they said In da club was a Detox beat.

I'd say Quik is the better producer, but Dre really knows how to bring out the best in his artists. The best thing about all of Quiks friends albums, are the beats. Ppl like 50, Game, Xzibit, always sound great on a Dre beat.

Dre's not really on an amazing level right now, but that's most likely because he's putting time in Detox at the moment. Anything that's good enough to be heard, but just doesn't fit Detox vibe or quality wise, could be used for other artists. That's all we're hearing these days... There won't be any mindblowing Dre beats released until Detox drops, you can take that for granted. It doesn't necessarily mean Dre fell off... He's just saving the amazing beats up right now.

If Quik's production was so bomb, like all of u say it is, his music would be getting bumped right now and it's not. He's an excellent producer, don't get me wrong but he can't touch Dre and he'll tell you that himself that Dre's the man and all the rest need to get to his level. He also says when Dre speaks, all of them listen and take advice.
With that said, everytime Dre brings an album out, it's straight fire. Stop comparing his work to 50's latest album, if you look, he did what, like one or two songs on there and the remix that Dre did is the most played song right now! I hate the fucc out of 50 but Dre laced that nigga w/ a heater...

This is bullshit, just listen to the beats on Documentary and Massacre. There is too much hatin on Dre at this forum. The start from scratch is the best beat that has been released the last 4-5 years.I aint never seen so many people dickride one rapper as much as people on this forum dickride Quik, everything the guy has produced is not amazing and to be honest Trauma is really boring. dre hasnt fallen off, we can judge that wen an album comes out but the stuff he is puttin out isnt even that good on average. people have been sayin daz doesnt put the material hes put out in the past but if u lisyen to the new dpg album thatl prove u wrong , easily any of the beats on there could have been on rr&gb, but when the guns come out from 50's album if that was 2001 or chronic he would hav been shot down in flames. if hes what hes made out to be he wouldnt be puttin out shite like that.
i think dre is in the top 5 producers in the west but other producers like quik, daz, battlecat do put out more consistant stuff regularly :-\

He can do many things as far as complexity goes that Dre has never done before. Dre's name has been bigger than Quik's name because of the time he's been in the game, and because Dre has worked with many more artists that are appealing to the whole country than Quik. You can never judge music by what people seem to like, because many people aren't exposed to the same thing.
It also boils down to a producer versus beatmaker argument. There are some producers who make great beats, but as far as the songs and albums go, they aren't always classic. There are some producers who's music itself may not always be amazing, but the way that the songs and albums come together make it classic. This is what happens with Dre and Quik. Dre has re-invented his sound a lot of times, and whenever he does, people follow that style. Quik hasn't changed the game nearly as many times as Dre. At the same time, Quik can be seen as much more creative as Dre, for various reasons such as the fact his music changes up a lot more, has a lot more goin on in the beats, and is just musically superior.
Overall...I feel Dre does make better beats for people who like rap, but for people who like R&B, Jazz, Funk, and Rap, Quik is much better. So Dre is obviously going to be seen as a better and bigger producer by most people who like rap because of this. Dre also makes better albums than Quik as far as the overall product of the album, but musicwise, nah. If you bought the instrumental versions of Chronic 2001 and Rhythmalism before you heard the whole album with the rapping and all else, it would be a no-brainer that Rhythmalism had better instrumentals on it. But the songs on Chronic 01 made it better.

Yeah...it's a lotta dickriders here, but most people who say anything that sounds negative usually aren't knockin him, but bein realistic and tellin how they feel since people always put Dre at #1 on every single production-related list.

That's just your opinion.....To me, Quik music is pretty boring and doesn't grab a crowd like Dre's and that's what people are looking for. You can throw any instrument on a song, doesn't matter how creative you are if people are not feeling the sound. To me, Dre is in a class by himself and shouldn't be compared to any of these producers (east or west). I'm from LA just like you and I don't see people out here looking for Quik's music like they are for Dre. You said Dre worked w/ artist that's appealing to the whole country? Who? Majority of the artist he worked w/ are the ones HE created, not the industry. You think 50, Eminem, Game or even Snoop would've been successfull as they are w/o Dre? There's no way you could say "Yes" w/ that one. I think people around here hate on Dre and when his albums drop, the same people talking about Quik's production is better will be on Dre's dicc.

Dres beats are mostly the same though, hes uses the same sounds and heavy bass in almost every track. Quik puts the funk in his music, almost every beat uses a different combination of instruments and has its own signiture sound. Dre makes better beats, but less of them. How many times you bumped, Inside Out? Or a battlecat beat? Their just something you can groove too. I really don't think you can compare Quik and Dre, since their styles are alot different, and they work with different artists. Compareing Quik to Fred, or Storch to Dre is easy, but Quik and Dre are both better at their own things.

I agree.the nigga have been doing some slaw ass shit lately.its like he lost alot of his rawness,and is just being lazy.(both DOC,and Em has said this about dre)....this brotha has went from chronic,doggystyle,to (if i was a rich girl)with his beats.....but he still one of the best,respect to dre...............................but that (out of control beat is bumpen)cant hate.
