DPG Putting Out Trash?
« on: April 25, 2014, 07:04:15 PM »
You know it's really sad that the DPG crew can't seem to put out anything solid anymore.  I'm going to break down a few of them and let me know you thoughts.

1. Snoop Dogg - My opinion is that Snoop needs couching on anything he releases.  His choices with his career have been very poor.  Doggy Style, The Last Meal, and Blue Carpet Treatment are the only 3 albums I can deal with.  If you look back, Dr. Dre helped him with Doggy Style, The Last Meal, and Blue Carpet Treatment.  Not entirely on the last 2, however he got input and tracks.  Snoop tried putting that DPG - Cali Iz Active awhile back, however selected some beats that don't fit the pound.  I mean Puffy, and those other southern beats (I forget the names).  He could have got Dre, Battlecat, Fredwreck, etc.  Why give the fans something that isn't going to vibe with them?  I'll stop here.

2. Daz - Daz came strong with his solo RRGB and RAW.  Mike Dean really hooked up the DPG - Dillinger and Young Gotti.  Part 2 was also enjoyable, and 100 Wayz.  As for Daz's other solo projects, he's continued to try to be this hardcore screaming machine, making wack beats and doing the southern shit too.  He reads this shit, and doesn't get the point "Slow down Daz, get some gfunk, and get the DPG family back on the albums).  I enjoyed his So So Gangsta, and The Dogg Pound Gangsta LP (he slowed it down).  Daz & WC was close to a good album, but bombed on a handful of tracks.  His last 2 southern albums blew ass.

3. Kurupt - Man, this guy was great with Streetz, Space Boogie, and then he started slipping up on lyrics and not even making sense.  It's like he just freestyles on everything and it was bad. Daz's lyrics were better in the later then Kurupt on the DPG albums.  I'm hoping he also gets with his old roots and writes down some stuff and really puts effort in for the fans.

I mean these guys walk around like they are big stars, and they just put on trash and we waste our money on them.  I think they still have the talent, and hope one day someone can help these guys put 1 more solid album out.

What are your thoughts?  I'm just touching on a few things, I could write 10 pages.

"Thats my work vol 1" was good. And one of many examples that the DPG are dope when they are all together.
Theres the odd track on vol 2 and several on vol 3 that show other examples that together and over the right production they are still dope.
I haven't heard the latest Daz album but Ive been fairly happy with most of his solo albums. The wit it wit it or what ever was a bit average if i remember correctly?
Kurupt, i thought his last album was really fucking good! and that mix tape he put out last year was very good also, very good.
Snoops E.P with dam funk was quite good.

I think The Nmates album was what we were all really hoping for, i think thats what the DPG fans really need. Ive given up on that project seeing the light of day now though.
I was hopeful that a new Hrsmn album would come out to but that wont happen either.

Is Dillinger and young gotti III still coming out??

But i agree with OP in many ways. Too many albums with little to no DPG involvement and too many shit songs and let downs.

Lets hope the new Eastsidaz happens and is as good as the first two were.

Not all albums have to be classics to have merit or be enjoyable. One day I'm gonna have to make a thread highlighting the Pounds best work, the mods will probably make it a sticky as it will be so definitive (no homo)

I agree. It would be a long list. More than many other rappers or crews/groups, etc.

the only one I have a little bit of faith in is Kurupt because he can still spit a dope verse when hes not freestyling it, but he is too inconsistent...Snoop and Daz have been mailing it in for years

this... although I don't think Snoop's material over the past few years has been that bad but he's def capable of much more with the team he has around him or the team he potentially could gather around him

just get Bad Azz or Roscoe to start writing again lol

these guys are done for real, snoop can come correct occasionally but kurupt and daz have nothing to offer. daz should have stuck to producing a long time ago and he did the exact contrary. kurupt is the worst imo, dude squandered his talent like no one else, his ratio of good verses has to be around like 1% lmao.

i don't get the pharrell hate, dude is a legend, granted he doesn't sound westcoast but artists need to update their formulas and the singles snoop & pharrell yielded actually sounded good : beautiful, drop it like it's hot, signs and let's get blown, the latter is a banger imo, can't go wrong with some classic funk samples. just cause it sounds mainstream doesn't mean it's wack.

but yeah it would be nice to get a family album where all of them would contribute a verse here and there (instead of doing boring solo songs), with a nice list of features and productions from the likes of 1500 or nothin, quaze, daz, warren g, terrace martin, fredwreck, battlecat, meech wells, but we'll never get that, and i'm not mad cause these dudes have had their time,

If that's the only list of DPG material that you enjoyed, you may be sleeping on some dope projects / songs. Sure, some of the material is hit or miss, but their good music far out weighs any of their mistakes. There are classics in the collection, you just need to know what to look for.

Move on and listen to some other group. West Coast Hip Hop has more to offer than DPG.

I have everything they have put out, as I'm a big collector.  Like I said, I didn't have time to write 10 pages.  I'm sure I could compile a few CDs with the good stuff, but I'm looking for a solid release from them.  They have to put in work to get a solid album.  Not us downloading trash and picking out a gem here and there.

If Snoop, Daz, and Kurupt took it serious, they could put out something solid.  No rushing and using other styles.  Keep it DPG and give the fans and new fans something good.

I gave up on Snoop a very long time ago with his girly raps on girls faggot song
Daz has wack beats now I dont even listen to him anymore it's pure south beat shit
Kurupt is a Paz ass & sick of his freestyle raps that mean nothing and sometime they don't even rhyme

Fuck DPG!.

I disagree. Snoop & Pharell have a dope chemistry when they work together. As dope as Doggystyle was, he didn't get a #1 single until working with the Neptune's. Pharell is a real producer meaning he would work with Snoop on makin sure the lyrics are right instead of the 'lil hommie' producers who will accept whatever he does to they beats just because it's Snoop. You can tell on Rhythm & Gangsta Snoop pretty much had the album done & Pharell & Chad came in and did the singles to top it off. But if Pharell & Snoop were to do an album from top to bottom, I think the results would be dope. Pharell is known for his hit singles but he's slept on for his album cuts (like Good Kid for Kendrick or they work on the Clipse).
