The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
« on: December 27, 2002, 06:20:44 PM »

who's hyped for this one?  They went back to the cell shaded graphics, it looks pretty interesting, old school anime type stuff.  They tweaked the storylines, too, now they're saying that this one takes place 100 years after the last one; but it's a different link.  The guy that runs Nintendo and designs all their first party games, said that all of the Links have been different, because Link & Ganon represent the eternal struggle between good and evil, so everytime there is a Ganon, there will always be a Link to rise up and fight him.  At the beginning of the game, you're given at your 10th birthday party (Or something like that) a green tunic and told that all kids are given one on their 10th birthday, in hopes that they'll grow up to be the legendary hero to take on evil.

the game's called "the wind waker" because Link has a baton he can control the wind with on his boat, to direct him different ways, etc. It's like the Ocarina of Time was except with the wind instead of music.

since it's animated, they can do all kinds of extra cool stuff too, like when you fight, you have special things you can do depending on who you fight against, and the weapons do different stuff depending on where they are; like if you're fighting somebody, you can hit them with the hookshot and it'll steal money off of their belt, and you can use it to get across chasms, plus, when you're on the boat, you can use it to troll the water and pull up treasure chests and stuff.

I think it looks really creative.  They're afraid people are gonna think it's a kids game because of the look now, but they meant it as a play on anime.  The storyline sounds really strong too.

It looks too simple for my taste  :-\
Considering that these graphics could have been done on the Super Nintendo..
Zelda64 was amazing, but when I thought about how dope this game could have been with even doper graphics..  :(

Damn that sucks. It looks like it could be a cool game but damn.. they made him gay.

I remember seeing screenshots for tha Zelda that was supposed to be  on Gamecube but I guess they chose to go a different route. That Zelda looked nice though... More realistic, and kinda 3D looking... This one looks wack...he looks like a powerpuff girl... and he looks hella young too, like he's 4 years old.

I think it was creative of them, and smart for them to switch it up, they could end up with an amazing game, everybody that's reviewed it is impressed and said the graphics looked like top level animation, so I can't hate.

P.S., If you preorder it, you get a second dvd, with "Ocarina of Time" on it, the whole game! As well as another Zelda game only released in Japan, for the n64 DD that never made it.  3 zelda games for the price of one.

Just to be different, and reflect a japanese anime feel.  If you want good graphics in this type of game, go buy metroid.

damn, Metroid Prime looks pretty damned good.
But from the screens I've seen, it reminds me a little of "Descent"-series, does it play like that? Or is it maybe more like Unreal Tour. or Quake ??
I didn't quite like Descent - but Quake & UT was dope as fuck.

I can't really say I haven't played any of those.  It's like metroid... it's the classic metroid formula, maybe those games were based on it.  The only difference is it's HUGE compared to the other metroids, I've been playing a week and only have 20% done.... and it's 1st person, instead of a side scroller now.  Awesome game, if you liked the first, you'll be all reminiscing when you play this one.
