Truce in the "Console War"
« on: June 08, 2004, 07:09:36 PM »
I'm tired of arguing with these PS2 people over nonsense.

Rampant, Smerlus, Jome, and whoever else...you like your Playstation 2, and I like my Xbox.  Lets leave it at that.  You like Grand Theft Auto, and I like Halo.  Lets leave it at that.  No more insults, no more cussing out, and no more bullshit.

Agree to Disagree

PS: I won't bad-mouth or trash Grand Theft Auto if you won't bad-mouth or trash Halo.  Agreed???  I'm tired of this nonsense.

I'm just posting sales numbers..
The numbers doesn't lie, Sony is the Microsoft of the console market.. wether good or bad..

I'm not the one starting these "Wow, you can beat down people" sarcastic remarks in GTA-threads..  ::)

well it's not a console war.....if it were up to just consoles it would be Xbox -> gamecube -> playstation 2

when it comes between the decision for certain games...GTA beat out the majority of the compition for gameplay, freedom, and story

there's only a few games that i would place over GTA's

i think it died with the n64.
after that theres just been some "hits" to name a few.

graphical and system improvments are there, but most games lack gameplay.
i mean theres tons of games out there or are coming out (HL2, Doom 3, or right now far cry) There very very beautiful graphics wise.

Far cry was a great example.

this game looks awesome, but i played it all the way through. This game is COMPLETLY BORING. Its not even fun. there trying to improve the way games look, but there forgetting to make the games worth while

There's still a good game here and there, but most of the game's today lack soul. It's all a bunch of carbon copies of what's currently hot. Not that that didn't happen back in the day, but atleast there were still innovative games coming out on a reg. Now games have these movie-like budgets and all were really getting is better graphics. The games are so complicated but easy at the same time. I remember a few years ago I waited countless months for Shenmue to come out. I brought it home at 4:30 PM on a Friday, by 5:30 Saturday morning I was done. Zelda 64, I beat in 4 school days. The only games that take time now are the Final Fantasies, but I'lll be honest, I haven't fully played one since FF6, or 3 depending how you look at it. Chrono Trigger was my favourite game of all time, so when Chrono Cross came out I rushed to get my hands on it, but I just couldn't get into it. I guess I'm just getting older, I'll never have as much fun playing games as I did when I was playing the NES Zeldas, and it took me and my friends a whole summer to beat them. It's funny because I recently played the original Zelda, and beat it in an afternoon. The bottom line is; the gaming industry is as big as ever, but I feel the money has corrupted the art and essence of what used to be so pure and incredible. Do you remeber when Mario 3 first came out and the lead up to it's release was tied in with a popsicle stick promotion where the kid with the most points won free copy of the game? I still remember having a nightmare where everyone in my grade 3 class had won the game but me. Those were the days. I wish I was a kid again.

it's not that games were harder then and easier now, it's just that you have more skills now....or at least i know that's the reason for me....i remember when i was little, i could barely beat bionic commando....i had such a hard time with that game...i sat down with it on my computer and i beat it in about 3 hours with a keyboard, i went back and did that with every game that i had trouble with....mike tyson's puchout, ghosts and goblins....i had an easier time beating them

shit even people complain about ninja gaiden (xbox) being hard as hell now...and i only got stuck once or twice (the beginning is harder than the rest of the game)

true, tons of games rely on shiny visuals but overall games are more innovative then they ever were, you just have to sift through the trash games that come out every year, and maybe take a chance with a few games

for awhile i fealt the same way you guys did but then i started buying games like:

Freedom Force: a mixture of FPS, RPG set in the golden age of comics

NHL Hitz: more checking and over the top shit that i love about regular hockey

Morrowind: the Grand theft auto of RPG's totally free, immersive environment

KOTOR: a great RPG by itself and even better than the two newest star wars movies

Neverwinter Nights: Diablo  II x 100

Clive Barker's Undying: like playing one of clives own horror movies

War of the monsters: simple to learn, hard to master

Morrowind is an amazing game.  My friend was very into it when it first came out, and I didn't think it looked that fun.  A year later, he goes on a vacation and asks me to take care of his dog while he's away.  I go over there, see the game, and say "what the hell" and try it out.  IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!  The sheer ability to go wherever you want and do whatever you want, without being constricted to having to follow a story, is truly amazing.  The Morrowind universe is beutiful, interactive, and you have the ability to do and be whatever you want (a hero, assassin, thief, soldier, scout...you name it).

All this talking about it makes me wanna start a brand new campaign.

We can hope.

And Smerlus, I know it's because I'm older. My main point was it's because I'm older that the games aren't as fun any more, or difficult. Kind of like how I'd used to watch any thing on TV that was a cartoon, now most cartoons suck. However that could be just because I'm older and don't find them appealing anymore, but if you ask me Pokemon and Yugio ain't got shit on G.I. Joe and Transformers, or X Men, or Brave Star, or Ninja Turtles, or Voltron, or the Bugs and Tweety Show (animated comedy at it's finest), or , I can't believe I'm saying this, Power Rangers, or.....................the list goes on.
