Is it me or is the West looking better and better?
« on: May 20, 2003, 10:28:15 AM »
I've gotta admit. I'd nearly given up on the West coast. It just seemed like there wasn't anything fresh coming out anymore. Quik retired, Snoop dropped his "west style", Kokane left doggystyle, Timbo and hi-tek on the 213 album, Lots of the so. cal artists were just bringing beats I didn't like, the list just goes on and on. I just figured there wasn't anything worth peeping anymore. Major labels just seemed to not care about the west anymore and it was RARE for them to put any decent amount of bank behind an album. Things are looking up tho... I'm gonna post up a list of things that I think are gonna make the west popular again, tell me what ya'll think. I can't remember the last time I was excited about this much music coming outta the west.

1.) Sly Boogie- This guy is just CRAZY! Every song I've heard him on makes me grin. He's got this a neo-west type style if you ask me. I can't wait for his album to get here.

2.) Damizza- Everybody and their mothers complain that the west dosen't get enough play on the radio, this guy can only help alliveate that situation. His beats are just fucking crazy too. Lights out has all the makings of a hit and that new Dr Stank song "dangerous" makes my head nod. BIG props to Damizza. I can't wait to hear more from him.

3.) Butch Cassidy- Nuff said. From "I want your girl" to that new Dr. Stank song, he's bringing the heat.

4.) Amir- With Quik behind the boards and offering direction, this artist is BOUND to bring something new to the table with his persian perspective.

5.) Hi-C, Suga-Free- Do I really need to comment? With "Let me Know" blowing up ALL over the radio, this can only mean good things for Hi-C. The rest of the country can only hate on the west for so long. If you throw enough quality shit in their faces they are BOUND to wake up. Everybody know's Suga Free is gonna bring some fonky shit. I really can't wait.

6.) Crooked I- I'm still a tad worried his album will sound way to eastcoast, but he brought the heat on that dysfunktional family soundtrack. "It's no holy matrimony, just us fucking on the holey matress only"

7.) Dj Skratch- This guy is the fucking MAN! He's got some REAL heat and he's prodcing for 2nd II none. I expect HUGE things coming from him.

I'm sure there's some things I've left out... Be sure to add you're own, cause I wanna hear what everybody thinks.

There's major talent in the West, that ain't even the question. The question is: What about the label bullshit?

I'd say Knoc is in the best position out of the newcomers, since he's got some attention in the mainstream hip-hop audience (once again, the Good Doctor brought talent to the limelight...). It was a shame his album didn't get to drop when it was 'sposed to though.

And Warren G's new solo's comin' out also. When's the last time Warren didn' come with heat? That's right, that never happened. And even a lotta peeps feel that Return of the Regulator is Warren's worst album, most still think it's a great album compared to any other.

i agree with skratch, he brings that typical fresh and funky westcoast production style, just listen here(B-Low Q track prod. by Skratch): http://downloads.mp3.com/AAIBQsuCEABBK6SoKAGAwARub3JtUAQAAABSKdwCAFEBAAAAUwEAAABUAQAAAAgAQw.wxz7SIkl9iEuxJDaXJS2ClPJw/The_Way_Playas_Play.mp3
(its an older track, but he sticks to this prod. style)

no question about crooked i, suga free, amir, hi-c and butch, im sure they will drop some heat in the near future (like they did in the past). not sure about sly boogy...he comes dope but he needs better productions. damizza is hot. im also looking forward to the new tweed cadillac album, im sure this will be a nice album. oh yeah...we got Paris whos still around and coming with sonic jihad soon. warren g, wsc, knoc, 213,...enough good music coming out.

im not sure what to expect outta the dogghouse camp. i dont wanna hear another eastcoast influenced album.  not sure about IV life too...most of their tracks that are around sounds the same...i have to wait for a full album with new tracks.

Yep its looking nice for them...and us

...alot of hot projects due to come up and out this year...

its all good for the hiphop / rap industry as a whole not only for the west tho...

...whenever there is a plethora of talent there is excitement for all artists (and us the music junkies) because they can see people going somewhere...doing well..and other artists (perhaps new) can get new ideas.

Anyway im looking forward to this years proposed releases (west / east...and south etc)

yes, he´s one of very few artists who ALWAYS comes with heat, no doubt.
