Everyone's trying to eat. Even West Coast fans stopped buying records, so what's left to do? Cater to West Coast fans circa 1995 and stay broke? Or Cater to a couple of Execs, get signed, do a couple of Club records, get money, then be able to make the music you want? I'll roll with the latter.

Look at E-40. Look at Snoop. Look at Xzibit. Look at B-Real. etc. These dudes make the music they want to make. They went through it, catering for CEO's at one point in time in their career and it payed off for them. They can make an album the way they want.

Pay attention.

E-40 been making Southern tracks on his records before it was an Industry standard. Cypress Hill jumped on the Rock Rap thing well before it was a trend. These dudes control a good majority if not all of their records.

yup, if you dont believe that, then you need to listen to a song that came out in 1990 called Carlos Rossi.

^through the duration on E-40's stint with Jive he did have full control. Now he's with Lil Jon and obviously it has Jon's fingerprints on it, but nothing on Ghetto Report Card seems out of the ordinary for 40 to be doing.
