Well, while he was in the booth, every few minutes we'd hear a lighter flick. and when I met him he had a weed pipe in his hand as he stepped into the booth but he didn't smell like weed or quite seem weed-high you know? so i don't know exactly what he was on. I hope weed, I guess.

Uh, George Clinton has been a functional crack addict for like 25 years... And I'm not making that up, I know that from people close to him...

Yeah, that's what Dirty Left(Snoop's brother) has been telling me. and what I was expecting when I met him but as I said, when I met him, he had a weed pipe in his hand (though all I saw was ash in it, didn't see actual weed). Which is why I said, despite what I have heard all I could go off is what I saw. I saw him with an ashy weed pipe and heard him periodically flick a lighter in the booth. Frankly I was kind of relieved not to have been blatantly exposed to the whole crack process.

I'd put 2nd II None under Quik. Dove Shack under Warren G etc.

The people saying Bone have no idea what they're talking about. They've been west coast influenced (mostly with the production), but they define the mid-west sound.

I would add Brotha Lynch, X-Raided, C-Bo, Luniz, Celly Cel, etc. to that list for the grimey west coast sound.

Very interesting list Tanj, and cool topic. I'm not so varied in my taste of music that I could comment on all those bands, but I know the most and I think you're right about them. I just think N.W.A. should be there, since they were there when the whole gangsta thing started.

Outside of Hip-Hop I think The Red Hot Chili Peppers are the most "California sounding", and it obviously made your list. But, like I said, I'm not so varied. I got The Peppers' albums, but not much rock besides those.

The most interesting thing to me about the whole list though, is Sublime. I've never heard of them - but I will check 'em out ASAP. They sound really interesting. Got a tip what I should check out?

true on that sly stone.

dude, you've never heard sublime t-dogg? Oh man, get their self titled album, ironically people sometimes call it 'detox' either title works. It's at least as CA sounding as Chili peppers. Incubus has a hugely californian sound as well.

I'd say incubus and sublime sound as californian as warren G at least.

sublime is like a funk hip hop reggae ska punk rock band. they have guitars, djs, horns, singing/rapping, bass, alla that. they're from Long Beach. They have a song with snoop called "doin' time (lbc remix)" or snoop remix or something like that but it's definitely the 'doin' time' remix.
