Those are decent numbers.  At around 20.00 a pop, you're looking at 100,000.  But then however much you have to take out for manufacturing and artwork, etc.., then giving RBX his cut of course and studio time, mixing time, shipping, probably not ending up with a whole lot of profit on the hardcopies.  I can see why a lot of rappers don't do hardcopies.

Still think the same about the album.
Wack tracks outta da blue an Thank you are very short. 2:40 or so. So it is manageble. Still they should never put out of the blue as the starter/face of the album.

Album is short but if you add Some of the better instrumentals it is a good full album.

Really surprised Last Dance or Another Part Of Me weren't released as a lead single.  And that they still haven't been released as singles.  Both of those could have massive crossover appeal.  Not sure what the thinking is behind that unless they have some sort of contract with the original owners of the samples where they won't be released as lead singles.  Or something with Jelly Roll.

I remember when Fabolous couldn't do a single with Ashanti because there was some clause in her contract to where she couldn't have a single on another label competing with her own single happening at the same time and Ja Rule had to replace her with Tamia for the single version of INTO YOU.  Not sure if there's any contracts like that floating around with those two songs.  I don't know why else they aren't dropping these to the mainstream.

this is not making any sense

studio time, mixing, marketing etc is money spent whether u press hard copies or not …. rbx guna get his cut regardless …manufacturing a cd with artwork etc is fairly cheap if u buy in bulk …. so leaving money on the table by not pressing hard copies is pretty dumb tbh.

I'm still listening to the album regularly and really enjoy it.

I don't why though if they weren't going to release the more pop singles, for more worldwide appeal, they didn't just make a more "traditional" west coast album?

Forgive me, because i don't know how it works, i'm genuinely curious.  So if you press up 1,000 records/CDs, RBX doesn't get an additional cut for each physical copy you sell?  He's already paid up regardless if you decide to press hard copies or not?

Went back to this - lyrically not feeling it at all. Delivery coo but topics, wordplay, wit/jokes (lack thereof) put me to sleep

depends on what kind of deal you have with the artist

the most common deal = an artist doesn’t see hard copy money/streaming money until all expenses are first recouped

now publishing money is typically split 50% lyrics 50% music and gets distributed as such immediately

It probably bombed and it's not worth spending more time, effort, and money trying to promote it.  Also, in my opinion, I just don't feel like Snoop was that invested in this album.  He did more promo for the Dogg Pound and the Eastsidaz, because those were projects he seemed to help guide and craft.  Whereas Missionary feels like everything was done how Dre wanted it and Snoop was just along for the ride whether or not it was music he would have made by himself.

I've said this myself in terms of budgets. I don't work in the industry but it is rare to have a release like Eminem's TDOSS or Snoop/Dre's Missionary in 2024. This of course might be standard with major pop stars or artists who bring in a ton of revenue with worldwide tours etc.

Imagine putting the time and effort into the below only to sell a very low number. I've also noticed on Instagram many of the tracks don't have a high Reel count. e.g. not used many times on Reels. This was like a week or 2 ago but I just checked now and for instance Thank you is at 794, Gorgeous is much higher but still low at 10k and it looks like everything else is super low in the grand scheme of things

Money spent on

-Promo missionary video (2 guys knocking on the door with the heavy set lady answering)
-Missionary short film (3.8 million views on YouTube which seems low)
-Missionary promo video with the AI for the Rat Pack (Sinatra/Sammy Davis J)
-Physical copies (CDs/vinyl) - seems like low sales overall - https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/snoop-dogg-missionary-top-10-debut-billboard-charts-1235865112/#

It just seems like for the record business if you aren't doing other side stuff like Jimmy/Dre did with - Beats, commercials, Gin N Juice, etc. there isn't as much money out there as there use to be. So many just quickly stream an album and say "oh its garbage" and move on. I'm guessing they used it as a huge push for the Gin N Juice drink which tied into the Rat Pack commercial I think or some of the branding they have been doing worldwide. My guess is an album like Missionary is more of a write-off business expense vs. a huge money maker. To me that is a shame considering Snoop and Dre's careers. I also don't believe if it was even more well received by loyal fans like us in the group that it would have magically sold a lot more. Sure there are some of us that are collectors but record/album sales are not what they once were.

Anyway, as other have stated, at least this album seemed to get many talking in this forum!

Still in rotation in my car heavy.

Snoop on  R&B Money said they plan to release videos/single from the album throughout 2025.

Said that was the plan to stretch it out through 2025 (We shall see).

I will love a good visuals for Hard Knocs & Skyscrapers
Arsenal 4 Life!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like they did the album just to promote their new drink. They are not expecting album to make some good sales or to be sucesful. They just kept the fans interested for 2 or 3 years and it helped them to get money with their new drink brand. i hate music business.
