It's not a classic, or even close but it is a really good album.
Herb Quote Of The Year[/u]

CalebOhio: I think i can speak for many others when i say my favorite rap artists are white but i still want black artists to be dope. they are chosing not to be. that wouldn't be a likely believe held in a white supremacist group. I want Nas to deliver evertime but he doesn't every time Sage does. so Sage gets my $15 regardless or his status. fuck your status perception and labels you use.

The BIGGEST problem with this album isn't the beats or the lyrics.

It's the fact that NO ONE knows how to mix Snoop's vocals better than Dre. Snoop's voice is too low in the mix on nearly every track on this album. Listen to Snoop on a D-R-E track and then listen to him on a Pooh production - Pooh had no idea how to make his vocals sit in the mix right. Fucked up the whole feel of the album for me.

That's the truth.  I remember when I first got this album in 96, I was wondering why I could barely hear snoops voice, still this is Snoop's best album lyrically, even though kurupt and bad azz ghost wrote a some tracks (blue berry and another one).  Stands outs for me were:

Doggfather, doggyland, downtown assassins, sixx minutes, OJ(wake up) w/ Tray Dee, groupie....shoot there were a lot of tight tracks

Doggfather is a classic. The question for me is, why are people hating on Top Dogg?

4.5/5 album..........most niggaz would only hope to able to release an album of this quality as a first album........obviously dogystyle was what snoop had to follow up which was one of hiphops finest moments y'all, whether u like it or not

doggystyle is what 'classic' GANGSTA rap should be
last meal is what 'classic' gangsta/intelligent rap should be

doggfather is a good album, but last meal blows it out of the water in my mind... and just barely beats out doggystyle

-BpG

LOL @ Last Meal. You can't even compare the two - Snoop barely got a word in with all the guest appearances on that album.
