.......................................................................................... Young Buck Finally Checks In With “The Rehab” - By : Chad - August 28, 2010

September 7, 2010 marks the date that former G-Unit recording artist Young Buck releases his street album, “The Rehab”. The streets, back roads and internet highways all around the world are all talking about “The Rehab” after the new leak of the song, “Hood Documentary” which finds Young Buck insistently talking to Curtis. Everyone knows that Young Buck is referring to Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent – who signed him and placed him in his multi-platinum, super group G-Unit. David “Young Buck” Brown has sold over five million records worldwide as he took the world by storm by first appearing on 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin” debut album, which sold over ten million copies. Since then, Young Buck has released two solo albums himself, “Straight Outta Cashville” which has sold over two-million records worldwide and “Buck the World”, which debuted at #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and #3 on The Billboard 200 with sales of 143,000 the first week. Young Buck has appeared on both G-Unit releases “Beg for Mercy” and “T.O.S: Terminate on Sight”. In addition to “Get Rich or Die Tryin” – Young Buck has appeared on 50 Cent’s chart-topping, record-breaking album “The Massacre” which sold a million copies in the first four days of its release, and he also appeared on “Curtis” which sold 691,000 in its first week. After the release of “Curtis”, Young Buck and 50 Cent had a public falling out which lead to numerous diss records, slanderous comments in the media by all parties involved -- and the infamous phone call between 50 Cent and Young Buck that was leaked to the world. This new street album from Young Buck features 14 brand new tracks, which are all produced by Big Hollis, Cozmo and Vince V. This album has been highly anticipated for the last few years, with Young Buck stating to MTV that this album would sell over a million copies in its first week. “The Rehab” is being released on September 7th by Real Talk Entertainment and is executive produced by its CEO, Derrick “Sac” Johnson, who had the following to say regarding its release: “We are very excited about working with Young Buck on this project. This project has been in the works for years, before 50 Cent and G-Unit. Young Buck is an international superstar and we are extremely proud to be releasing his street album, The Rehab.”

.......................................................................................... Knoc-turn’al & Crooked I Set For “I've Been Here For Years” Video Shoot - By : Chad - August 28, 2010

Two of the west coast’s most prized hip hop possessions are set to come together to shoot a music video. Both representing Long Beach City, Knoc-turn’al and Crooked I have teamed up for the first single off Knoc-turn’al’s upcoming “Knoc’s Ville” album, a track titled “I've Been Here For Years” with the video shoot coming in September by McKinley of McKinley Presents.
West Coast fans have long complained that Knoc-turn’al & Crooked I, both signed to Treacherous Records, haven’t collaborated enough during their careers and time spent on the same label. “I've Been Here For Years”, is the answer to the fans’ complaints and calling. The track also features James Elizabeth (who has worked with Too $hort, E-40) and it was produced by the legendary Bay Area producer Big Hollis who adds Knoc-turn’al and Crooked I to his already impressive resume.
Hoopla Media Group, who partnered up with Treacherous Records -- have issued an open public casting call to appear in the upcoming video for "I've Been Here For Years" by Knoc-turnal featuring Crooked I and James Elizabeth. For anyone who is interested in appearing in this video, email Jonathan Hay at jonhay@gmail.com.
“Knoc’s Ville” is coming out through Hoopla Media Group and Treacherous Records in November of this year -- and everyone is working around the clock to make this happen.
Justin Melo who is Knoc-turn'al's manager had the following to say: “We’ve been working very hard on “Knoc’s Ville” and appreciate the fans eagerness to hear the project. Knoc-turn’al hasn’t been out in the CD retail world since 2004, and a lot has changed since then. It is those changes we’ve become accustomed too and instead of just working around them, we are actively working with them. Since the project was announced, we’ve gone through a lot to drastically improve the album, and ensured that the product is top of the line west coast Knoc-turn’al music, and that it shall serve as the proper follow up to his “The Way I Am” 2004 release. We’re very appreciative of Treacherous Records, their CEO Tico who executive produced the album, everyone who has contributed to the album, and most importantly, the fans for their continued patience.”
Knoc-turn’al had the following to say: “I’m glad everyone is excited for the project. I’m excited to get it out. I’m working hard to get it out by the end of year. Ideally, I’d love to have it out for Halloween because I think it really fits that theme but if not by then, by the end of 2010 for sure. I can’t let another year go by without me serving my fans that Knoc-turn’al music. That goes for my International fans as well. I’ve always kept it true to the west coast and “Knoc’s Ville” is no different.”
Mickey of Treacherous Records was quoted as saying, "The Treacherous Records-Hoopla Media Group partnership began with Knoc-turn’al and “Knoc’s Ville”, but it doesn’t end there, as we will partner up once again for One-2 and his forthcoming “History/Destiny double EP." The project is set to feature guest appearances from Crooked I, Royce Da 5'9, Knoc-turn'al, Jayo Felony, K-Young, Kobe and more.
Although the track listing for “Knoc’s Ville” is not ready to be released to the public, “Knoc’s Ville” is tentatively set to feature guest appearances from Crooked I, Yukmouth, Jayo Felony, Sly Boogy, James Elizabeth and more.
Stay tuned to Dubcnn for news & updates on Knoc-turn’al!

.......................................................................................... Exclusive Interview: DJ Premier Speaks With Dubcnn - By : Nima - August 27, 2010

Dubcnn had the opportunity to briefly link up with one of Hip-Hop's greatest producers, DJ Premier. Primo has had a rough year in which he suffered the loss of his long time partner Guru, with whom he created some of Hip-Hop's timeless classic music as the duo Gangstarr.
We caught up with him at Rock The Bells in San Francisco last week to get a few words on MC Eiht's upcoming album "Which Way Iz West", which is executive produced by DJ Premier. He tells us about linking up with Eiht in the early 90's and the reasons for which he wanted to get behind this album.
He also gives a few shout outs to West Coast artists, from the up and comers like Young Maylay, Jay Rock, Nipsey Hussle to the OG's like WC, Tha Chill, Monstah O (Boo Yah T.R.I.B.E), the Maad Circle and Ice Cube.
Watch our conversation with Primo below:
Exclusive Interview With DJ Premier (Rock The Bells 2010) (Video)
Transcript:
"I wanted to work with MC Eiht, because we had worked together before on Compton's Most Wanted, I did a remix for them back in 1992, it was called "Def Wish" remix. There was an East Coast remix and a West Coast remix and I did the East Coast remix. That was just messing around, but I've been a big fan of Eiht's style, his rhyme style, his "gyeah" and all that.
We met a long time ago in Long Beach at a show that we did together in 1989. That was my first time in Cali on that level of seeing Cali go down, like, a lot of things backstage - I'll just leave it at that. A lot of things popping off backstage and at the end of the day, he told me he was coming out as a new artist, I saw his video probably like a week later on one of the video channels in New York, I was blown away by his style! "One Time Gaffled Em Up", I've been a fan ever since and every album is consistent. His acting in Menace II Society showed that he was g'd up with that too.
He's just official man so it's like let's get it in, we ain't gotta say nothing to each other. We can just be like "Yeah, send me the album, let's get it!" Not just as a friend or a look out, but I understand his substance, he understands mine, so let's put it out and make it funky for the audience that already understands it! Anybody else that wants to join in, get it when they get it!
We're all about the people that already get what time it is with this adult G shit. Period point blank. Adult G shit. They told me it was a new category, adult something Hip-Hop, which is fine, but we'll just call it adult G shit. Kids ain't ready to be a G even though you wanna be and you act like it. Acting is one thing, being is another. Dubcnn big ups, MC eiht big ups, shouts out to my man Tha Chill, that's my dude.
Shouts out to Young Maylay man, that dude is a lyrical problem. On the West Coast you got your Jay Rock's, you got all of them coming, my homie from 60's, Nipsey Hussle shouts out to him. But Maylay is a problem man and WC is a problem." - DJ Premier.Discuss This Topic

.......................................................................................... New Video From Lil B "Cold War" - By : Nima - August 25, 2010

Say what you will about Bay Area rapper Lil B aka The Based God, but the youngster has achieved within the last year is amazing. Granted, he's not your typical rapper-type, his flow is often off beat, his subject matter confusing and he calls himself a "princess" and "pretty bitch".
But, the following this kid has built online with his viral videos and "based freestyles" is second to none. He recently rocked a show in New York City based off his online buzz and had the whole crowd doing his "cooking dance". He first rose to fame as one third of the group The Pack ("Vans"), who dropped their latest group effort "Wolfpack Party" yesterday, August 24th.
Lil B released a new solo video yesterday called "Cold War". This one should be more accessible for people who have had a hard time getting into him, as it kind of follows a "normal" song structure, more or less. Check it out below:

.......................................................................................... Amad-Jamal Is "Barely Hangin On" - Debut Album Out Now - By : Rud - August 24, 2010

Back in June we dropped an update on the then impending release Amad-Jamal's debut album "Barely Hangin On: The Chronicles of a N-gga Like Rodney King."
The anticipated release from underground hip-hop phenomenon Amad-Jamal is now available and has been getting regular spins from the Dubcnn staff so we had to drop a reminder that you have to pick this album up. The album achieves a balance of old and new by bringing back the elements of live talent blended with old timeworn traditional hip-hop collaborations. The whole feel of this album is innovation without compromise to the fundamental elements.
DJ Brisk One, the foundation of this record, is a seasoned DJ/Producer from West Salt Lake City who worked alongside Amad-Jamal and Colonious Funk to craft a definitive sound that bridges Hip-Hop from the past with the commercially viable sound of the genre at present. "Barely Hanging On: The Chronicles of a N-gga Like Rodney King" is an intimate look at Amad-Jamal’s growth as an artist and as a man. He honestly exposes his most dark and intimate thoughts while sending the message that empowerment can come from just taking a really good look in the mirror and not denying what’s there.
Today we wanted to remind you of the track we dropped back in June, the Defari featured Regardless and give you two more tracks from the album to show you why this is on release not to be ignored. First up we have the Dilated Peoples featured "Believe That" followed by the solo track "Goin Postal"

The album, "Barely Hangin On: The Chronicles of a N-gga Like Rodney King," is in stores now and features Dilated Peoples, Defari, Maaya Ota aka Lady Dragon, and Gotham Green. Production is shared by Brisk One and DJ Dahi.Discuss This Topic

.......................................................................................... Dangerous Crew's Shorty B Preps New Book “The Truth B Told” - By : Chad - August 23, 2010

Get ready to enter the life and times of Dangerous Crew multi-platinum producer Stuart “Shorty B” Jordan, in his new book “The Truth B Told”. Most notably known for his extensive production work with Too $hort and the Dangerous Crew, Shorty B has a multi-platinum track record spanning 25-plus years and over 85 million records sold. With a production list featuring some of the industry’s most celebrated artists including Too Short, Digital Underground, T.I., Rappin’ 4-Tay, TLC, Earth, Wind & Fire, MC Breed, 2Pac, Nelly, George Clinton, Ant Banks, Erick Sermon and several others, Shorty B has been behind more than a few of your favorite hits.
Now, the multi-platinum producer prepares his next addition to the game in the form of a book, giving you an inside look to Shorty B’s journey of 108 albums: 23 platinum, 4 gold and 2 diamond certified albums. “The Truth B Told” brings you closer the celebrities and icons from yesterday and today with stories ranging from hanging with 2Pac the day before he was shot 5 times in New York:
“I was living in downtown Atlanta in a building called the Scandinavian House. My phone started to ring, and when I answered it, it was 2pac saying he was down stairs. He knew that he could chill at my place undisturbed. It was him and a few of the little homies. We were chilling and smoking weed, and his phone kept ringing off the hook. It was some people calling from Quad Studios asking how much he wanted to do a verse on a song for this rapper named Little Shawn. ‘Pac said he wanted about $7700 – $7800. His phone kept ringing and they wanted to know what time ‘Pac was coming. ‘Pac stayed at my crib the rest of the night and most of the next day. That following evening, he went to the airport and boarded a flight to New York, where he was later shot 5 times.”
to the Suge Knight, Jake Robles, Puff Daddy incident:
“One night I was walking out of a club in Atlanta and a white limo pulled up in front of me. I noticed that it was Suge Knight. I introduced myself, and he already knew who I was. I told him my contract was over with [Too] Short, and that I was looking for work. I told him ‘Pac and I were close like family. That’s when Suge introduced me to Jake Robles and two female friends who were with them. I gave the female that I was with my keys and pointed to my car, which was a burgundy Benz. Suge then asked if that was my car, and I said yes. Suge told me he liked my style and told Jake to give all the numbers he had to me. I was aware that they were coming from a party at Jermaine Dupri’s house. Before I concluded my conversation with Suge, I told him that Puff Daddy and a bunch of his homies were in the club and that he should be careful. I walked to my car, and pulled it over across the street, directly in front of the club. Just then, another Benz pulls up behind me and it’s my homeboys Bobby & Keith from the bay area. Soon after, I see people back-peddling out of the club entrance, arguing. I notice that it’s Suge & Jake being surrounded by Puff’s people. I see a guy in a light blue, aqua green sports jacket and white pants, a guy named Anthony “Wolf” Jones who later gets killed outside of club Chaos a few years later in Atlanta. Wolf pulls out a chrome pistol and starts shooting into Suge & Jake’s direction. I’m actually standing inside my car door area when I hear, “BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!”. I duck, and look back over my shoulder and see that this other guy is shooting into the crowd, and then he takes off running. I jump behind the wheel and take off at top speed. 10 minutes later I drive back by the club and I see the paramedics putting Jake in an ambulance. He received 4 gunshots to the stomach and torso. He died 4 days later.”
Without a doubt, this will be a must read book! You think you know, but you have no idea until you heard the truth that B told.

HipHopDX reported over the weekend that Daz Dillinger, who never got paid from the Suge Knight-owned Death Row Records, was given a six-figure royalty check from Wideawake Entertainment Group, the new owners of the legendary and storied label, for his work on Snoop Dogg’s classic “Doggystyle” record.
Talking about his and Kurupt’s 5th studio album, “100 Wayz” Daz reveals, “"I had just got a check for like $100,000 from Death Row Records - the new Death Row. They're paying royalties on all their music. [Former Death Row Records CEO and President] Suge [Knight] wasn't trying to pay us our money. Now they're payin'." Daz continued that he wanted to use the royalties to further the DPG legacy. "So I take their money, and bein' hungry with the game, I just grabbed Soopafly and Kurupt, dropped them off some money, and said, 'Damn, let's make this happen.' Veteran Bay Area rapper/singer-songwriter/actress/entrepreneur and community activist, Tenina Suga-T Stevens, finally returns to the limelight after a lengthy musical hiatus, with her mixtape outing, "The Return Of Suga: The Best Is Yet To Come..."

Over the course of her twenty-five plus year career in music, the self-proclaimed "First Lady" of The Click, has come through a host of adversities including teen parenting, domestic violence, male chauvinism in Hip-Hop, exploitation and gun violence throughout her life. Suga T created an organization, The Be About It Movement, to help others overcome their obstacles, gain success, make positive change in their lives, and ultimately acheive their dreams.
Although Suga has achieved a multi-platinum single, in the form of her "Sprinkle Me" collaboration with sibling, E-40 - which happens to be the biggest brother/sister duet in rap history - she still feels that her full potential has remained untapped; until now.

.......................................................................................... Double Vision Show You Their "Bifocal" View On Debut EP - By : Rud - August 20, 2010

The hip-hop world has two new musical genius' - Johnathan and Jarred - better known individually as Mackamillion and Mr. Mackmore and together as Double Vision.
Double Vision are twin brothers that have been compared to duos such as Kriss Kross, Camp Lo, Little Brother, Outkast and the recent chicago based duo The Cool Kids, for their impeccable style of dress code. "We like to set trends for what should and shouldn't be. We're not gangsters, we're more like a funky twist of backpackers and macks," states Mackamillion
Being born in Venice, CA, they are used to being around artistic energy and cultural diversity, combine that with their time spent living between cities across the mid-west and south the duo are wise beyond their years and offer real insight in their music.
When asked about their genre of music they so proudly claim as their own, Mr.Mackmore explains, "we speak for the men and women who seem to naturally attract the opposite sex without what some people call game or the use of pick up lines. As for the backpacker part, we're talking about those independent artist, Hip Hop purist and entrepreneurs who's got their own hustle, no matter what genre of music or business their involved in"
With that said the duo are ready to showcase this style when they release their debut album "Bifocal" on August 24th. The album, available on No Sleep Records, is an EP that consists of eight tracks that is said to be "reminiscent of Pharcyde and Outkast mixed with Gym Class Heroes" - from what we've heard we couldn't agree more, the project musically fuses Hip-Hop, Rock and Ska and with the duos lyrically ability you are in for something truly distinctive.
The EP's single "Skinny Jeans" showcases Double Vision's playful side while the introspective "Walk On By" sees the twins trade verses about individuality and acceptance. Both the tracks, along with "DIY Or Die," can be heard within the full tracklist below.
01) DIY Or Die (Anthem) 02) Walk On By (Feat. Chuck Treeee) (Produced By Stress) 03) For My 04) Skinny Jeans 05) Father's Day (Feat. Dale "Uncle Perk" Perkins) 06) Other Side (Feat. Johanna Phraze) 07) Elevate 08) It's You
Enjoy the new music and ensure you support Double Vision when "Bifocal" drops on August 24th. Let's leave with a quote from Mr. Mackmore about the album; "When we started, it was the bling era of hip-hop, so we were different from the norm. So we just kept doing our thing. And that’s the concept of this album: Be You!"Discuss This Topic

.......................................................................................... Fat Beats Announces Closing Of Retail Stores - By : LilJay - August 19, 2010

As most of you probably heard by now, Fat Beats announced the closing of their legendary retail stores in New York and Los Angeles. Since the report hit the net, people all over the globe have expressed their feelings about the situation on Twitter. Here is the full press release in case you haven't heard the news yet...
Brooklyn, NY – After 16 years, Fat Beats has announced the closing of the legendary label's two remaining retail locations in New York and Los Angeles. Fat Beats will celebrate the legacies of the stores, which are scheduled to close in early September (New York: September 4th, Los Angeles: September 18th) by throwing a series of blow-out sales and tribute parties open to the public during their last weeks. Fans can check www.FatBeats.com for updates.
Fat Beats’ longest running and most famed location is at 406 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan. Since the 1994 opening of Fat Beats' flagship retail location, hip-hop fans have traveled far and wide to visit the iconic store. With locations soon following in Los Angeles (7600 Melrose Ave.), Atlanta, Amsterdam, and Tokyo, the record stores were a place to experience hip-hop culture and its legacy, which became a global phenomenon. “The closing of Fat Beats is just like one of my friends passing away. They promoted vinyl at its highest degree for the culture of good music and that makes it more difficult to say goodbye," says DJ Premier.
The announcement of the closings is a reflection of the woes that have been plaguing the industry for years. Global chain HMV closed their last US location in 2004. Tower Records shuttered in 2006. Last year saw the close of the last Virgin Megastore, and the story is no different in 2010. For Fat Beats, maintaining two stores well into 2010 is a testament to the stores' importance to the music and to fans and consumers continuing to support independent hip-hop.
While news of the stores' closing marks the end of an era, the future is not doom and gloom. Digital sales continue to increase industry-wide; for Fat Beats, currently operating a profitable and growing online retail store, this has provided a boon to business as fans continue to order mp3s, vinyl, and CDs from FatBeats.com. Although digital sales continue to grow, executives at Fat Beats understand the importance of independent retail stores and are planning to re-open a brick and mortar hip-hop lifestyle location sometime in the near future.
The future looks just as bright for Fat Beats Distribution and the label. Fat Beats Distribution, which has been renamed FB Distribution, continues to strike noteworthy distribution deals with independent and major labels worldwide and is now working with different genres of alternative music. Fat Beats Records will continue to release notable albums from their own impressive roster of artists including ILL BILL, TruMaster/KRS-One, Black Milk, Trinity, Sha Stimuli, Q-Unique, and more. Fat Beats owner and President Joe Abajian says, “This is the start of a new era for Fat Beats. We’re adapting to meet the needs of our demographic by revamping and improving our existing systems. While our website, which stocks everything available in our retail stores, continues to do very well, we’re still exploring our options for alternate retail locations in the future. We’re proud of our legacy and will continue to re-invent ourselves. For now, we’ll see you online at FatBeats.com.” Discuss This Topic

While Nipsey Hussle is enjoying success with his current single, the 1500 Or Nuthin' produced "Feeling Myself" featuring Lloyd, he continues the marathon leak of songs that didn't make his longawaited debut album "South Central State of Mind". This is a perfect thing for two reasons: 1) the album IS finally completed, and 2) these leftovers keep coming in on a daily! On top of that he proves that the hype around him is justified, because almost everything that finds its way to the public's ears is quality material.
Here goes the latest banger called "Hotel Room Music".
