A couple of months back, DubCNN introduced you to rising Vancouver/Los Angeles artist Jay Worthy. Traveling back and forth between Canada and California, the young spitter is pushing his distinctive brand of lifestyle rap: GS350 interstate-driving, gliding airport to airport and cruising bikes on Venice Beach.

Back in February, we released Jay Worthy's laid back anthem "Sky Hi"", which received great feedback, and Worthy just sent over a new video to bring to you today.

Jay Worthy has shared stages with the likes of Waka Flocka, Bricksquad, Dogg Pound, The Grouch, Too $hort, Mistah Fab, Fashawn and notable others. He is also currently on tour with his sister, the world famous artist Grimes.

Jay Worthy recently joined Blockstarbeem and Monster Potatoe to form the group TYG (Troubled Youth Gang. Monster Potato is a part of the Arrogant Veggies, Casey Veggies' crew and all three artists are from the Blockstar camp in South Central/Compton.

news Xzibit "Napalm" Cover Art + Insert/CD Art + Single Confirmed - By : Rud - August 1, 2012

A little over a week ago we confirmed that Xzibit had lifted the lid on his first album since the 2006 release of "Full Circle" via Twitter and titled it "Napalm." In that same update we brought you the full tracklist, features and production credits - again below - with artists including Prodigy, Wiz Khalifa, Slim The Mobster, E-40, King T, The Alkaholiks, David Banner, Brevi, Crooked I, The Game, Bishop Lamont, Young De set to feature over A-Class production from Rick Rock, DJ Chill, E Dan, Insane Wayne, S1, 21 The Producer, 1500 Or Nothin, David Banner, Akon, Focus and Dr. Dre!

New solo music has been scarce from Xzibit over the last 12 months, his work with Extreme Music, Demrick and Matt Alonzo for the Man On The Moon and It Is What It Is videos as well as his 2012 feature on the King T record Pus-Say have been about it.

It was November 2010 when Xzibit last referenced a project called "Napalm" and that was a planned mixtape with DJ Whoo Kid and DJ Scream - from which we brought you Ugly featuring Trick Trick, Jay Rock & Bad Lucc - in the lead up to his eventually-delayed "MMX" album.

Since late 2009 we'd brought you the singles from "MMX" that included Hurt Locker (and its music video) plus Phenom.

Today we return not only with the news that the first single will be the E-40 featured "Up Out The Way" - in fact last week X was with the legendary Brian Gardner, aka Brian "Big Bass" Gardner mastering it - but also the cover, shown at the top of the update AND the insert and CD artwork, shown to the right!

01) State of Hip Hop vs Xzibit (Produced by Butcher)
02) Everything (Produced by Rick Rock)
03) Dos Equis
04) Something More (Feat. Prodigy)
05) Gangsta Gangsta (Produced by DJ Chill)
06) Forever a G (Feat. Wiz Khalifa) (Produced by E Dan)

09) Spread it out (Produced by 21 The Producer)
10) Up out the way (Feat. E-40) (Produced by Rick Rock)
11) Napalm (Produced by 1500 or Nothin)
12) Meaning of Life
13) Louis XIII (Feat. King T, The Alkaholiks) (Produced by Dr. Dre)
14) Enjoy the Night (Feat. David Banner, Wiz Khalifa, Brevi) (Produced by David Banner)

16) I Came to Kill (Produced by Illmind)
17) Killers Remorse (Feat. Bishop Lamont, Young De) (Produced by Focus)

news Dr. Dre "Brings Hip-Hop's Next Star" - Kendrick Lamar XXL - By : Rud - August 1, 2012

As ever on Dubcnn the news and media surrounding Kendrick Lamar is relentless. Most of you first heard K.Dot on Dubcnn 5 years ago and now his stock is truly rising since aligning with Dr. Dre and releasing The Recipe single back in April - and announcing his major label debut LP "Good Kid In A Mad City" is due to drop October 2nd via Aftermath/Interscope/TDE.

Despite a planned back video for The Recipe, we confirmed yesterday that the huge appeal and interest in Swimming Pools (Drank) produced by T-Minus and mixed by Ali & Dr. Dre was set to be the single to spawn the first video and the folks at AHH suggested that it will debut this Friday August 3rd on BET's 106 & Park!

Today the promotional-wagon switched into overdrive with the release of the cover of the upcoming September 2012 edition of XXL Magazine that shows Dr. Dre "introducting" Kendrick as "Hip-Hop's Next Big Star" - reminiscent of the 50 Cent, Dre & Eminem cover from 2002!

See the cover in full by clicking the update image and remember "Good Kid In A Mad City" is scheduled for October 2nd - now go listen to The Recipe and Swimming Pools (Drank) again right now!

news The Landgrabbers by Fred Pearce (Book Review) - By : Mil - August 1, 2012

Back again with another book review, this time I take a look at The Landgrabbers by Fred Pearce.

"Right now, an unprecedented land grab is taking place around the world. Every day, parcels of land - the size of Wales and larger-are being gobbled up across the plains of Africa, paddy fields of South-east Asia, jungles of the Amazon and prairies of Eastern Europe.

The raiders are the ultra-rich Gulf oil sheikhdoms, Russian oligarchs, Chinese entrepreneurs, jumpy governments worried about food security in an ever more populated world, and financial speculators looking for the next big investment opportunity.

The victims are subsistence farmers around the world, whose title to the land they work is uncertain and whose power to prevent their governments selling it from beneath them very small. Following the trail from the boardrooms and ministries to the victims themselves, The Landgrabbers lifts the lid on the most profound ethical, environmental, economic and social issue in the world today."

Check out the review below.
