news Yukmouth On Lil Flip's New Album - December 27, 2004 By : SGV

Houston rapper Lil Flip's new album entitled I Gotta Get Mine is due out in late February or early March. For the album he's working with a number of producers, such as Texas duo Play-N-Skillz and R&B Crooner Mario Winans. But, look out for Flip to flex his production skills, as well.

The album will be swarmed by guest appearances. He's going to release two singles, one being the song "Real Hip-Hop" which will feature Ghostface and LL Cool J. The song is described as "a look at Hip Hop, from three different generations."

The other single is a remake Tupac's "Still Ballin'" and is entitled "Stay Ballin." This song will feature the Thug Lord himself, Yukmouth.

On top of that, Flip will be addressing T.I., as they've been trading jabs, since T.I.'s release from Jail. The album will feature Nelly and Jadakiss, too. So, it's obvious Flip is really looking to hit all demographics on this. From the Gangstas to the Hip Hop Heads to the TRL Crowd.

news X-Mas In The Hood Review + Tons Of Pics - December 24, 2004 By : SGV

Wednesday December 22, 2004 at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood found DubCNN in the midst of one of the illest shows this year. The line up included headliners and people you brought us this amazing show, the F.I.L.T.H.E.E. Immigrants, as well as Underground legends Mykill Myers, 2Mex & Busdriver. Along with plenty of Up and Coming artists like Global City, Borettta, Second State, Fats and others.

How much was it to get in you ask? 5 dollars or a Toy. All of these artists came out in support of a Toy drive! That's real ill. As they said during the show, "This time of the year is for the kids." The house was packed there's gonna be some very happy kids this Christmas. Props to Rif, Dutch & F.I.L.T.H.E.E. for putting this together.

The show was a heat rock in it's own. Everyone was given 10 minutes to do their set. And it moved very quickly. There was only one point of dead time during the entire show that boasted performances from over 10 artists. Pretty damn good, if you ask me.

All the acts were good. But, it wasn't until 2Mex and crew came out, that the crowd got crazy. On the first song of his set, a Mosh pit erupted. F.I.L.T.H.E.E. Immigrants continued the onslaught of hard hitting jams, keeping the Mosh pit going strong. But, when they brought out the special guests of the night, the place was truely bumping. For the first time since 1998, Sick Jacken of Psycho Realm and B-Real were on the same stage performing together. Along with Street Platoon, it was a perfect way of ending the night.

So, not only did the kids get a treat, but so did the fans. They witnessed Hip Hop history! Again, I'd like to thank the F.I.L.T.H.E.E. Immigrants for putting this together and giving back to the community. Also, I really would like to thank them for showing DubCNN so much love. Pick up their muthafuckin' album!!!!! Shouts to everyone who came out to support the kids!

news Kokane Comin' Wit "Take It Back To The Clap" - December 14, 2004 By : Nima

Kokane Is Back!!! The funkiest man on the coast is back cracking with a new underground record coming out called "Take It Back To The Clap". For those wondering, this is not the "Ghetto Gospel" album he talked about in our interview, but it's new material. The Gospel record is locked in the vaults and should be coming out after this one. I personally had the chance to listen to the Gospel record, and I have to say it's amazing. I wish I could post some clips for ya'll, cause it's really hot.

However, let's get back to this album. It's coming out on Burnt Out Music/Street Life Records, and is entirely produced by Fingazz. For those who don't know about Fingazz, just know that he's probably the best white producer on the West Coast. The man got beats for days, and he got it cracking on the talk box too!

For those who have never heard him, check out the song below, from Down's album, featuring Kam & Suga Free. This is just an example of the type of production Fingazz brings to the table.

Down ft. Kam & Suga Free - Caliways (prod. by Fingazz)

We should be having audio from the "Take It Back To The Clap" up soon, along with interviews with Koka & Fingazz. The record is scheduled for a March release, hopefully it sticks! It's straight West Coast, baby! Lookout for much more from Kokane, as I linked him up with the Cali Untouchable crew... oh boy!

news 2Pac & Kurupt - Still Ballin (DJ Fatal Mix) - December 14, 2004 By : Nima

Looks like both of Kurupt's unreleased verses from the 2Pac track "Still Ballin'" are out now. Kurupt was replaced by Trick Daddy on the posthumous Pac release Better Dayz.

A remix was released on a DJ Vlad mixtape which seemed to have one of Kurupt's OG versions. Now, a new DJ Fatal remix is out, and it has another additional verse and a different beat than the Vlad or Better Dayz one. It's not using the same accapella as on Better Dayz neither, as it has 'Pac shouting on Kurupt at the beginning of the song.

So check it out for yourself, and if anybody has more info, holla at me here.

news Ground Up Ent Update [Audio] - December 13, 2004 By : Nima

The homies over at Ground Up got some new heat they wanted me to let ya'll check out.

Ground Up Records is the newest and hottest label on the West Coast. It's home of Logic, Manson, E-Nuff, Scan, Swiss Cash and Juan Jones.

Ground Up was founded in October of 2003. It's the perfect name for the label considering that the CEO Donald Johnson ran his company operations from his Navy paycheck. He runs Ground Up Records like his mentors Damon Dash (Roc-a-Fella Records), Russell Simmons (DEF JAM), and Lyor Cohen (Warner Brothers). He studies his mentors blueprints for success and applies them to his record label. On top of running an up and coming record label he serves in the United States Navy, he is stationed in Ventura CA and has been in the Navy for 5 years.

Jason Strother is the Company General Manager and Don will always say “Jason is a genius and is smarter then I am on a lot of industry topics.” The first artist signed to Ground Up was Logic. The West is really thriving for an artist with Logic's style, charisma and lyrical prowess. Some of the West Coast hottest artists have reached out to record with him; artists like Knoc-Turnal, Spitfiya, Planet Asia, Tha Relatives, Techneic (Dynamis Certified) and many others have took notice to what’s going to be the biggest label and artist on the West Coast. Major labels have already showed interest in Ground Up and Logic such as Ballr Records, Def Jam (East) and Interscope Records. His album will be hitting the streets soon and is yet to be titled but is sure going to give the West an extra platinum plaque. Logic was signed with the now shutdown Rawkus Records when he was 18 years old and since has been ripping MC’s and amazing every A&R at every Major Label and now, teamed with Donald Johnson, he is set for stardom and is going to be a major part in the resurrection of the Left Coast. Ground Up will be Logic's home forever just like every other artist on Ground Up as every artist is real serious and committed to the Ground Up emblem. Logic states “If it wasn’t for Don getting me back rapping none of this that is happening and is going to happen in the future would be possible.”

The next MC’s that signed to Ground Up was Manson and Juan Jones. Jones is currently serving a bid in the California correctional facility in Taft California but will be out next year. Manson is a versatile rapper that started rapping when he was eleven years of age; him, Logic and Spitfiya (Next Up Interscope) formed a group named “Dot Com." Manson's voice tells a story like no other rapper that graced the mic before. His songs tells a story that will give you chills and before you get to cold he will have you dancing with his tongue spitting lyrics. Manson, just like all of the Ground Up artists, will go down in history in hip-hop. His album “The Gemini” is going to be slated for later on this year and is going to be one of the best albums ever on the West Coast.

The next artist on the roster was a CEO pick, and that is Scan. Scan caught the attention of Don while freestyling at the Spitfiya video shoot. It took six months for Don and Spitfiya to put a tap on the streets of Compton, Watts, Gardena, Inglewood and neighboring cities to find the mystery MC. Once found, Scan has not disappointed his label mates or even more importantly his hard to please label exec. He spits hard and his lyrics are off the charts. Scan brings to Ground Up raw lyrics layered on top of cleverness. He has worked with many top producers and his album is slated for later in the year.

E-Nuff is the official left hand of Ground Up. His voice, lyrics and delivery will make him one of the greatest MC’s ever to come out on the Left Coast. He's been rapping since he was nine years of age and has been improving on every bar. E-Nuff was brought to Don by Manson and Logic and has been amazing the CEO ever since his first bar. His album is under development and will be coming out next year.

Last by not least is Swizz Cash; he is the newest member of the Ground Up classic roster of MC’s. He was just recently released for jail and is excited to work with the label. He rapped side by side with the rest of the Dot Com family that consist of Logic, Manson and Spitfiya (Interscope). He'll bring the streets and the nightlife of the West Coast on wax and will keep you on your toes with his delivery and versatility.

The Ground Up roster is full of talent that is going to explode on the West Coast. Each of the artists are lyricist and the average age is only twenty one so Ground Up will be around for a long time to come.--Tha Schizo WWW.WESTSIDERAP.COM

I have four cuts for ya'll to check out below, so make sure you peep them, these cats got some serious heat!!

Logic - What It Do (ft. Spitfiya)

Scan - Let 'Em Go (ft. Logic & Spitfiya)

Logic - Sup Crip, Sup Blood

Manson - Wake Up

Enjoy the songs, and look for much more coming from Ground Up in near future!

news Grooveline Magazine’s Spring Bling Tour - December 11, 2004 By : Nima

The Grooveline Magazine College tour is designed to put the artists in touch with the collegiate buying market with minimal cost to the record company. We do this by combining the presence of celebrities along with sponsors such as Pepsi, Pro-Line hair care and Dada Foot Wear that gives the student a totally fun experience while we are on campus.

We are proposing a one week, seven city college tour, that will run from April 15th until the 22nd, 2005. The tour will act as a caravan of exposure for your up and coming acts who are looking to connect with an audience that’s likely to consume their projects. We will maximize the college market for your artists by putting them on campuses in a festive environment. We will set up an autograph session from 11 AM to 1PM in each school’s student union. During this time we will entertain students with games, giveaways and music. We will also invite local media (news, video show, magazines, and newspapers) to cover the event. We will spend the rest of the afternoon making scheduled appearances. Then we will return to the campus in the evening for a performance. In some cases we will perform on campus during lunch.

Past tour participants include David Banner (With Crooked Lettaz), Young Bloodz, C-Murder, Do Or Die, Mr. Short Khop, Beelow, Red Café, Messy Marv to name a few. The headliner will be announced in February.

Grooveline has put together an all inclusive tour that will provide for all the artist’s needs, while supplying the label with the manpower it needs to properly promote an artists.

Grooveline Magazine is offering the following package:

1. Provide transportation for four people per group. (45 ft, 50 passenger charter bus)

2. Provide two rooms per night in a three star hotel. (Holiday Inn, Ramada, Hilton)

3. Radio advertisement on college stations that will permit it. Commercials will go up one week prior to our arrival. If radio is not possible, we will seek out newspapers.

4. Promotional items: 3,000 CD samplers/ CD Rom with one song from each artist and a link to your website. And 5,000 8X11 flyers announcing the tour.

5. A publicist to set up interviews in each city.

news R.I.P. Break-A-Dawn - December 8, 2004 By : mrtonguetwista

I just wanted to pay respect to a local lady who wasn't afraid to play West Coast music and unsigned artists that were hungry to be heard. You'll be missed Break-A-Dawn =(

MAITLAND, Fla. -- Orlando radio listeners are mourning the loss of a local morning show personality.

Complications from pregnancy killed Dawn Blackstone Fleming Wednesday morning, who used the on-air name "Break-A-Dawn," WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.

She was a newlywed and a new mom.

Break-A-Dawn was part of the "Wake-Up Posse" on the morning drive at 102 JAMZ. She handled community and entertainment news for the hip-hop station and used her talents to help dozens of charities in Central Florida.

Earnest James, the senior vice president at 102 JAMZ, said everyone at the station feels they've just lost a family member. Fleming was more than an on-air talent: She was the station's leader in community outreach and a sparkplug personality with a warm heart who will be sadly missed.

She was newly married and set to deliver her first child when doctors told her she was having trouble with dangerously high blood pressure. She went off the air and into the hospital last month. She delivered her new daughter just before Thanksgiving, but then lapsed into a coma.

"The birth of her child is what she gave her life for. So, it's important that I do my part to recognize Dawn as the heroine that she was," James said.

Just 31 years old, Fleming lost her battle Wednesday morning. Her co-workers are being offered grief counseling, and sympathy cards are likely to pour into the station, joining the dozens of thank-you notes and awards from the charitable organizations that benefited from Break-A-Dawn's weekly broadcasts that focused on people most in need.

Karen Yeager, who runs Place of Comfort in Longwood, said she'll remember Fleming not just for her radio broadcasts that helped her agency collect food and toys, but for her personal commitment to help struggling kids and families.

"She truly had the heart of a volunteer. How else to be remembered? She really has a legacy," she said.

On her station Web site's bio page, Break-A-Dawn wrote: "We are not promised tomorrow."

Her co-workers now understand that painful truth.

"Her way would have been to live fully for today," James said.

102 JAMZ has been flooded with calls about Fleming. Funeral arrangements are being made as her family struggles to cope. Station management said at least one of the services being planned will be open to the public.

One ray of light in all of this: Her new daughter, born premature, appears to be healthy and doing well.

news DJ Quik Dec. 6th House Of Blues Review - December 7, 2004 By : Nima

Our staff member Justin posted a review of the DJ Quik show last night at the House Of Blues in Hollywood on our forum, here it is for everybody to read:

"the show was hella fat... but expectations were kinda let down in the end, but still a great show regardless.

it was at the sunset house of blues. started at around 9:30.. DAMIZZA opened up with DR. STANK, and then SLY BOOGY came out and then KNOCTURNAL came out, and then BOO YA TRIBE came out. at this point in the concert, with just the opening acts, i thought this was going to be one of the craziest shows i went to. they were all doing their songs, and Boo ya tribe was all pop lockin and shit. shit was sick. West coastin at its finest..

and then Shawn anthony came out, thought he was real sick. sounds a lot like devin, but i think better flow. but it was disappointing to see people booing him off stage.

and then QUIK came out did a bunch of classics and new songs. "born and raised in compton", "sweet black pussy", "what they think of you", "tonight", and others.... he brought out WYCLEF JEAN who did a track or two with him. and Wyclef brought out some 18 year old chick that spit out like 48 bars, she was pretty sick. he then brought out CHINGY which did a few tracks with him.

quik started b-walking which was fucking sick. he had his homeboy go on stage and do it, and that shit was fucking nuts. their footwork is insane.

and then i hear "BLACK WALLSTREET IS IN THE HOUSE" at this point im like holy fucking shit. and quiks like "yeah the whole aftermath family is in the house, 50 cent, lloyd banks, the game, eminem, dre.." and even mariah carey.. dude i thought they were all going to come out. but they stayed backstage.. Quik was hyping the game up, but he never came out. After the show, from what i heard game was in a car accident, and so he didnt come out onto stage. This was Hella Disappointing. I'm not the biggest g-unit fan or nothin, but if all those aftermath people came out with Quik in such a small venue like house of blues sunset which prob has capacity of like 1,000 people, then it woulda broke the building down.
The game was supposed to come out at least, cos quik mentioned it at the interview.

but yeah, quiks a great performer. flow is definitely on point. he was poppin hella champagne bottles. prob sprayed like five botles at the audience. he seemed real excited about the show. in the beginning, he mentioned that he was going to do the show sober out of respect. he even gave a fat ass keyboard that they were using on stage to some person in the audience. Kncoturnal also threw out his fat fur jacket into the crowd.

seeing the audience react to quik and how much they love him, i felt real lucky and appreciate being able to sit down individually with him and talk to him for the interview."

The world of Latin Hip Hop is about to be hit by a major Earthquake. The homie Junior of RapTalk.net and I are starting up a new Website, LatinRapWorldWide.com. It's gonna be strictly Latin Hip Hop, I'm talking only the best, beacause we're changin' the game. Bringin' everyone from Don Abusivo to Chino XL together, in one place. You'll get up to date news on Latin Hip Hop, interviews, reviews and live coverage of shows and events!

On top of all that, to introduce this website, we've enlisted the Mixtape King of L.A., DJ Warrior, to help craft a monsterous Mixtape. We've already got some heavyweight artists confirmed for the project, but I'm not going to drop any names, just yet. We also got some of the illest underground and independent Latin emcee's contributing, as well. But, that don't mean we're stoppin' there. We're sending out an open invitation to ALL Latin emcees, male and female alike, to send tracks in. Only requirement is good music! We appreciate all contributions, but anything we feel that is not up to par with the rest of the material, will not make the tape.

Mixtapes are something the Latin Hip Hop industry has not really dipped into, but we're here to change that. They are great forms of promotion. Mainstream and Underground alike, here's your chance to rep Latinos to the fullest. We ask for tracks to be sent in A.S.A.P. When you're ready to send us your work, contact me via SGV@Dubcnn.com and I'll shoot you the address and all other information needed. Look out for LatinRapWorldWide.com to do big things in the future! It's time to step ya game up! LatinRapWorldWide.com The Mixtape COMING VERY SOON! Shouts to Junior and DJ Warrior for helping make this happen!!!

Peace and Thanks

news Exclusive Warren G Album News! - December 6, 2004 By : Nima

The G-Child Warren G let me know some news about his upcoming, still untitled, solo album. But from what he's saying, this record is going to be very musical, very instrumental, very bass heavy. "Let the game unfold, G-Funk Classic Part Two!", he says.

"I'm on my own again, it's back to the G-Funk era!"

He's said to be hooking back up with The Twinz on some music, and he's recently been in the studio with the 5 Footaz. After a dissapointing 213, Warren is trying to come back hard with his solo, and don't hold your breath for Nate to be on there. (Yes, Warren and Nate are COOL, to quiet all the "beef" rumours I can see cookin' up from that comment!)

The record is still in the beginning stages though, so ain't no tellin' what will happen and who will be on there. The G-Child is just working in the studio right now, trying to put it down, so we can get some new G-Funk Flava next summer!

Stay tuned right here for the newest concerning Warren G as always, big shoutout to him!

news Geto Boys - December 6, 2004 By : SGV

Mark it on your calendars people! January 25th, 2005!!! The Geto Boys are back! Willie D, Scarface & Bushwich Bill's new album War & Peace is dropping on Rap-A-Lot Records and is already looking promising. As usual, it's being executive produced by J.Prince. I know I can't wait for it. DubCNN, like we always do, bring you the exclusives. Here's the first video for ya'll to peep out. It's called Yes Yes Ya'll. I dig the video. It shows the group back in the hood and still in the club. There's plenty of good lookin' women in it and cameos from Juvenile, Slim Thug & Bun B.

Also, here's what Willie D has to say:

"It’s definitely not a departure from the old Geto Boys shit. The only thing that is really different about the album is the beats are more up-tempo. But our energy level is still the same and our subject matter is still the same. We’re still championing the cause of the underserved. We’re still Geto Boys for life.

As you can see it's official! I'm glad to see these dudes back. Real legends in the game, still putting out quality records.

news New Movie Features Hiphop Undertaking - December 3, 2004 By : Nima

This season, hiphop merges with Hollywood in a major way as the third and final film to be released from the mega-popular “Blade” trilogy spotlights Kool Keith and his group Thee Undatakerz’ innovative CD and their single, “Party In The Morgue." The New Line Cinema Blade series’ grand finale, “Blade: Trinity,” starring Wesley Snipes, features cutting edge filmmaking, special effects and technologically advanced creative sound effects, making it a high-tech, cinemascopic auditory experience for hiphop fans.
Highlighting the innovative score, composed by Wu Tang leader RZA, is the film’s climactic fight scene, which is set to the song by Kool Keith and The Undatakerz’ “Party In The Morgue,” taken from the CD, “Kool Keith Presents Thee Undatakerz” which was produced by the critically acclaimed DJ Daniel Merlot.
Already having received rave reviews, “Party In The Morgue” along with its innovative music video, has been compared to the controversial, mega-hit “Smack My Bitch Up,” the Kool Keith and Prodigy collaboration that achieved multi-platinum status worldwide.
“Kool Keith Presents Thee Undatakerz” featuring the “Party In The Morgue” track was released by Activate Entertainment. The album features a hybrid disc, which plays the CD on all standard audio players. It also contains an enhanced format, so if played in a DVD player, the music video for the title track can be viewed.
What also contributes to making the album an item that is much sought after by hiphop fans is that the disc also contains an a cappella hidden bonus track of “Party In The Morgue,” so that fans can make their own mix and send them to the record label at http://www.2activate.com to enter a competition. The producer of the winning remix will receive a record deal and an appearance on a major upcoming movie soundtrack.
In other Kool Keith activity, Daniel Merlot of the group Crash Berlin, has recorded a self-titled album that will be released on February 1, which contains the European smash collaboration with Kool Keith, “Movin’ The Hype Track.”
Meanwhile, the soundtrack album of the “Blade: Trinity” film has also been released, on which artists joining Kool Keith and the Undatakerz include Raekwon, RZA, E-40, Fat Joe, Ghostface Killah, Lil Flip and the late, great, Old Dirty Bastard

news Sinful El Pecador - December 2, 2004 By : SGV

Sinful El Pecador's Spanish language album Confesiones De Un Pecador is finally in stores. It's been a long wait. We haven't had a Hip Hop album from either of Tha Mexakinz since about 1998, well the wait is over. Time to step ya Spanish Rap game the fuck up. El Pecador was busting in Spanish before it was cool and he still, I don't know anyone out there that can touch him.

This is a nice mix of Latin and Hip Hop beats with nothing but heated lyrics all over. From front to back, this album bangs. Its got something for everyone, from lyrical heads to females. El Pecador has got you covered. I suggest copping this album, without a doubt. Also, look for the Official DubCNN review of this album in a week or so.

Here's the tracklisting:

1. La Voz De La Calle - (interludio)
2. El Imperdonable
3. Atraccion Fatal
4. Por El Peor Camino
5. Manos El Aire
6. Orgullo Pecaminoso
7. Bombom
8. 90813
9. Solo Existe Uno
10. Pieza Diez
11. Madre Incomparable
12. Mi Confesion
13. Tragos Amargos
14. Sin Idea Decir Adios - (sida)

Last month I got the chance to interview Sinful at his album release party. Thanks to Sin, Danny Boy and Sinful's manager, for allowing me that oppurtunity. We talked about his new album, his upcoming work with I-Man, his growing up in Long Beach, as well as other things. Peep out the Sinful interview, only as audio right now. I'll get the text up a.s.a.p.

To the left, you see the cover of the Scipio/Game mixtape put out by Warrior and DJ Strong, called Cali Untouchables Radio Pt. 3. Well that boy Scipio, for those who are still sleeping, is one of the illest emcees out right now. I was priveleged enough to be with Scipio, Warrior, Strong, Da Riffs and others when they were filming a DVD. During that time, I was able to sit down and do a quick interview with Scipio. We talk about his outlook on his career, Ras Kass, the state of Los Angeles Hip Hop and much more. On top of that, I was also able to grab the producer team of the moment Da Riffs and get an interview with them, too. As you can see with Coast Control, they do most of the production on these mixtapes and, as you'll hear in the interview, they handle tons of production for Video Games. We speak about who they've worked with, plan on working with, their musical tastes and more. Peep those interviews out, as audio for the moment, and don't forget to cop DJ Warrior's mixtapes and support Scipio and Da Riffs also!

news The Game "How We Do" VIDEO [Download] - December 2, 2004 By : Nima

Back again with another bang, this time I have the video to The Game's new video "How We Do" aka "Fresh '83", which features 50 Cent and was produced by Dr. Dre.

It's a typical G-Unit video, alotta flashiness, club scenes, nice cars, smoke, all that. Personally, I was hoping Game would keep it gutter with his first video, sort of like Young Buck did, but hey, it's still a tight video, cameos by Dr. Dre & DJ Quik.

Download it below:
