news Warren G Week Aug. 1-6 In Long Beach - July 29, 2005 By : SGV

Warren G has been honored in his hometown of Long Beach as the Mayor proclaims August 1st through the 6th as Warren G week. The Rapper/Producer is releasing his New album, In The Mid-Nite Hour, September 27th on Hawino/Lighteryear/Wea Records.

Through years of continued excellence, Warren G has attained iconic status in the world of Hip-Hop. With a best-selling platinum and gold certified catalog boasting such classics songs as "Regulate," "This DJ" and "I Want It All" Warren has brought his laid back style of music to audiences around the world, but also a slice of life from his beloved hometown of Eastside Long Beach.

As if bringing global attention to the city weren't enough, Warren has also actively participated in the development of area and its residents in a variety of ways including the time he helped Lenscrafters, Shell Oil and City Councilmember Laura Richardson raise enough money to buy 500 pairs of eyeglasses for children to use for reading. Or the annual G Christmas shopping spree in a rented U-Haul where he drops his own cash on toys to give to kids at the California Recreation Center. Just last week the guy received an award from Project Coordinator Leonard Adams for time and money donated to the Midnight Basketball League, which operates as an alternative to the trouble that can be found outside on the streets.

Those efforts over the years are about to be officially recognized on August 1-6 when Long Beach Mayor Beverly O'Neall proclaims that time period, "Warren G Week." The seven days also coincide with the opening of G's latest labor of love: the Willie McGinest Freedom School on August 1. Freedom School is a Summer enrichment program that was originated in the Civil Rights Era year 1964 in order to teach African-Americans to read and write so they could vote. It evolved into an educational improvement curriculum that stresses reading to help build a desire to learn that young people carry with them into the regular Fall school year.

The Willie McGinest Freedom School program will be the debut of this educational course in Long Beach. City native, Super Bowl Champion New England Patriot Linebacker McGinest, put up the seed money to start the school. A mutual childhood friend then introduced Warren to the Pastor O. Leon Wood, Jr., and that's how the week's benefit concert came about to raise funds to continue this valuable enrichment program. (Robert Robinson, senior outreach coordinator for City of Long Beach, organized many of the week's other activities.)

"The City of Long Beach owes Warren G a great amount of love and gratitude for his continued demonstration of care and concern for our youth," states Pastor Wood. "He shows his love through the giving of his time and resources. He is always there when needed."

"I'm not just proud of Warren as his manager I'm proud of Warren as his uncle," adds Wron G. "He has stayed true to Long Beach and helped others to move to the next level in life. I thank the City of Long Beach for recognizing his humanitarian activities."

The full schedule of Warren G Week events include:

August 1, at 8:30 a.m.: Willie McGinest Freedom School will begin with a proclamation of Warren G Week from Mayor Beverly O'Neall at the Sutter Academy, 5075 Daisy, in North Long Beach.

August 2: TBA

August 3, at 2:00-4:00 p.m.: Warren G will speak to Boy's and Girl's Club, Martin Luther King Park 1950 Lemon Ave, Long Beach

August 4, at 10 p.m.-12 a.m.: Coach and play in Midnight Basketball League at California Recreation Center. Game begins at 12 a.m. midnight.

August 5, from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Warren G Day at the Queen Mary, Long Beach Harbor with tour of ship for Long Beach residents. Meet and Greet by Warren.

August 6, at 2:00 p.m.: Warren G concert for the kids of Long Beach on the lawn in front of Hughes Hanger at Queen Mary.

August 6, at 8:00 p.m.: Warren G performs a benefit concert also on the lawn in front of Hughes Hanger at the Queen Mary. He will give new, upcoming Long Beach acts the opportunity to open for him. Special friends will drop by. Proceeds go to the Willie McGinest Freedom School.

A few days after these celebrations, Warren will begin the promotion that will announce the September 27 release of his latest album, called In The Mid-Nite Hour on Hawino/Lightyear/WEA Records. Once again self-produced, the CD will feature that patented G-Funk grown a bit in songs like "Get Ya Down" and "Make It Do What It Do."

For those Interested, Donations for the Willie McGinest Freedom School may be sent to:

Willie McGinest Freedom School

Congratulations to Warren G for this MAJOR accomplishment!!

news Introducing: I.E.'s Kace Moon (Audio) - July 24, 2005 By : SGV

"It Can't Be The Truth That All Black People Think So Fucked Up, If It Is, How Could You Blame Us, We Born To Life With Problems, Drive-By's, Police Beams, Paramedics And Helicopters, Yo Children Dream Of Being Mobsters, Is This The Future For Our Junior's And Daughters?" - Kace Moon

Born on February 27, 1987 Inland Empire's Kace Moon, has dealt with adversity since his first breath in infancy. During delivery, Kace was tagged deceased, as his mother delivered his twin sister. The doctors struggled optimistically to reviving his unresponsive infant body, until finally reviving him to existence. Fortunately, there were no majorly damaging end results. Throughout his childhood, Kace, as many other Inner-city children was, a victim to the epidemic of "Star Track" vanishing fathers. His mother in result would forcefully have to sale illegal substances.

From a sofa in his homebuilt studio, he smiles, "I remember when she'd do her runs, I'd be downstairs fucking with the other kids and I'd ask her where she's going and she'd always say 'To see a man about a bulldog.' It's not like she was balling out of control. She had enough to take care of my sisters and I. I'll always understand her struggles. She's a survivor" explains the 18 year old. "It always tripped me out cause she was an ex-addict."

After multiple times of being locked up, Kace's mother moved from the gutters of San Bernardino, California to a desert region called Banning in early 1997. Banning was more affordable and less crime. "It was an opportunity for redemption from our hardships." Kace says. Following about six months living in Banning Kace's mother was again incarcerated on drug charges. From there Kace and his sisters were shipped around weekly between their three aunts. Letters from his mom daily inspired Kace's first love art, he would draw all-day to refuge from his surroundings. Once his mother was let out of detaining Kace's family moved back to Banning.

Although assuming they were away from dilemma, Kace Moon was back in a similar environment. Police on the block more than five times a day, prostitution, and many other unlawful events plagued their surroundings. Kace's mother had gotten a job during theie first year there. Supporting her family Kace's mother would stay at that job for about two years. Kace's mother would later fall in depression and become mentally ill.

12 year old Kace a product of a broken breed, began putting his focus on the streets. Breaking into homes and vending the merchandise to spend among his peers. Two years of being on a hoodlum point was just the beginning, Kace being a mirror towards his environment, following his parents and peers steps, began peddling narcotics with his older cousin. Chuckling Kace reminisces, "My cousin was had a similar situation. He needed money also. I was about fifteen he was seventeen. We did things in the past. So we went into some dude house he knew. we took his stash, linked up with some younger niggas, got them to push for us for wholesale, so it was a win-win situation it wasn't like we were investing."

One night while Kace and his cousin were robbing a store, during the robbery his cousin was identified, so he fled. They split up in different directions. Only to leave his cousin captured by authorities. Facts of his cousin behind bars hit Kace like a Mike Tyson jab, to add to the fire, a 16 year old Kace's found out his 17 year old girlfriend was pregnant. "Such a beautiful blessing at such a ugly time, had me knowing this was an influence on my life only through God. From there I got my diploma more than a year early. Being too young to get a job I just put I had a diploma, automatically, they assumed I was 18. I went against all odds with that situation" reveals the young man.

Although previously writing poetry, Kace began pouring his blood and frustration into music. Listening to many genres of music influenced his style of composition. Having the wordplay of Nas and Tupac, the versatility of Notorious B.I.G., the attitude of Public Enemy, and the hustle of Master P, Kace is the all-around M.C. All off his own hustle, Kace Moon now manages to go to college and markets his Mixtape "The Introduction" and self made shirts in Swap Meets, liquor stores, and parking lots all over The Inland Empire region. "I don't do this for fame, I do this off the strength of my family in addition to recognition and foundation of my talents. I am blessed, even if I don't get signed, I will make my dreams into reality" details the independent entrepreneur.

Here's some Audio from his "The Introduction" Mixtape. First up is a track entitled "Glocapella." Kace raps with no beat, only scattered Gun shot sounds:

Kace Moon - Glocapella

On "Ruthless Freestyle," Kace borrows Mobb Deep's "Quiet Storm" beat:

Kace Moon - Ruthless Freestyle

Kace hi-jacks the Ying Yang Twins summer smash "Wait" and puts his spin on the track with the Whisper flow:

Kace Moon - Warning Shots Silence

We'll be bring you more on Kace very soon.

news Al Gator - Signz Of The A Prod. Rick Rock (Audio) - July 20, 2005 By : SGV

A few months ago, we updated ya'll on a new talent out of Atlanta by the name of Al Gator. He's been hard on the grind working with some of Hip Hop's major players. From Ludacris to Aftermath Records Producer Focus.

After making his devoted following wait for over a year, Atlanta’s very own Al Gator finally delivers his highly anticipated sophomore mixtapes. The Mixtape Kings of the South, the industry’s most sought after producers and the hottest emerging artist in the game join forces in creating mixtapes capable of industry destruction.

Still riding on the success of his debut “Lock Out Season Vol. I,” Da Free Agent is ready to emphasize just why he is the best. The featured tracks will take you places you never thought a mixtape could take you, but take note, as these are not your conventional mixtapes.

Al Gator takes the beats from some of the most definitive tracks in Hip-hop and R and B and injects them with his captivating wordplay, laces them with his unique delivery and infuses them with energy like no other artist. Old School classic remakes such as Marvin Gaye’s “Inner City Blues” and Luther Vandross’s “Any Love” will give you a sample of what you are to expect from Al Gator.

Like a jab from Winky Wright, the creativity will smack you in the face. It is apparent that he and his corner are not about overpopulating the market with mediocre mixtapes. They are about top quality tracks and collaborations, strategic promotion and effective marketing to complement the commodity that he truly is.

With industry executives already paying close attention to his every move, we will be counting down the days it takes for Al Gator and label Black Ice Music to explode. They will become the dynasty that has been missing from the game. Al Gator shall be the emcee Hip-hop fans have longed for and their ingenuity will take the Hip-hop culture to a higher plateau. “The Journey” and “The Underboss” are just the beginning.

Here's some Audio from Al Gator Produced by Super Producer Rick Rock:

news DJ Muggs vs. GZA: Grandmasters - July 19, 2005 By : Adon

Cypress Hill founding member and architect DJ Muggs is releasing his latest effort, DJ Muggs vs. GZA: Grandmasters, this October on Angeles Records, an imprint on Fontana Distribution. The stunning collection contains 11-tracks of Muggs’ neck-snapping beats with the Wu Tang’s GZA on the mic.

“We’ve talked about collaborating since we worked together on the first Soul Assassins records back in 1997,” remarks GZA. “And we’re both Grandmasters at what we do,” he says, referring to the album’s title and term for a chess Virtuoso (Incidentally, chess is a game GZA thinks should be part of the school curriculum in America).

Most know GZA as perhaps the most lyrically gifted of the Wu Tang Clan--he’s released numerous acclaimed projects in his own right. His solo album, Liquid Swords, has been hailed as a hip-hop classic, and his subsequent work has been lauded as among the most seminal of Wu-Tang’s solo projects.

Never one to keep his talents in check, GZA is currently penning a book about the mind state of the hip-hop artist.

Aside from his lauded work with Cypress Hill and the Soul Assassins Crew, Muggs has launched Mash-Up Radio a syndicated radio show on KROCK 2 in NY, 10 U.S. cities and Sirius Shady 45. Plus, Muggs will headline the Lalapolooza World Stage with the Mash-Up Circus, which is a massive 3D DJ circus (a' la Cirque de Soliel).

Just as DJ SCREW was looked at as the foundation for Chopped & Screwed, Muggs is fast becoming the go to guy for Mash-Up versions of records. Muggs has an original Mash-Up album nearly completed with tracks by Transplants, Mobb Deep, Alchemist, and GZA and several popular Mash Up mix tapes already out. Finally, he plans to release a Mash-Up re-release of the upcoming Grandmasters album with GZA.

With this latest collaboration, hip-hop heads are about to get an album which combines two of the most gifted music makers in the business. DJ Muggs vs. GZA: Grandmasters drops October 25th, 2005.

news Exclusive: Rich Boy feat. Pitbull & Sinful (Audio) - July 19, 2005 By : SGV

What happens when you mix a Mobile, Alabama emcee with a Super Producer from Virgina, topped off with two of the illest Latinos on the mic; one from Long Beach, the other from Miami? You get Rich Boy with Sinful and Pitbull and the "Get To Poppin' Remix" over a smooth Timbaland beat.

Though Timbo has been very quiet commercially, he's been down South knocking out heater after heater for a lot of the up and coming talent down in the area. The 21 year old Rich Boy is working away on his Major label debut, dropping later this year, for Interscope Records. Pitbull is still bubbling hot off his album M.I.A.M.I. and as we reported earlier, Sinful while still a free agent, has been keeping busy doing his Remix thing.

Here's the track for you:

news Artist Profile: AKIR (Audio/Video) - July 17, 2005 By : SGV

AKIR (Source Magazine’s Unsigned Hype)
signs contract with ViperRecords to Release the long awaited album, “Legacy”

Maybe it was the first concert he saw (Run DMC and the Fat Boys) or the first album he owned (Public Enemy) that sparked his creative flame for Hip-Hop. But it was the turmoil of his early surroundings and his life’s struggles that ignited his hunger to develop into the artist “A.K.I.R.” The acronym and the promise to Always Keep It Real, gave him a name and a prophecy to live by. AKIR took life in Buffalo, NY and grew up throughout New York City, DC, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Atlanta and Maryland. The harsh realities of becoming a black man in today’s world would prove to be a main catalyst.

AKIR first entered the Hip-Hop scene as an on-air personality with WNMH 97.9 (Mass.) in 1994. In 1998, he ranked 2nd out of 50 in Howard University’s Verbal Armageddon emcee competition, and he guest appeared on DJ Arsonist’s (HeatMakers) first mix tape release. Collaborating with partner SOUTHPAW (formerly Ray Dogz of Daddy’s House Recording Studios) he co-produced “The Getaway” for Immortal Technique’s Revolutionary Vol. 1. AKIR released his first single “Best Friend” on DJ N’finit’s mix CD The Blockbuster Vol. 1 (A One Enterprises Product) followed by the EP Street Edition Vol. 1.

At the end of 2001, the project was added to, re-packaged and, distributed as Street Edition Vol. 1 & 2 helping “One” sell over 12,000 copies through an extensive street team network. Being recognized as # 9 CMJ Hip Hop Music Charts (June 2004), and the cameo on “One Remix” for Immortal Technique’s Revolutionary Vol. 2 lead to AKIR’s appearance on the Van’s Warped Tour (Summer 2004) followed by the honor of The Source Magazine’s Unsigned Hype (Jan/Feb 2005). Currently, AKIR is working on his first major release, performing, and doing cameos. AKIR has performed with a diverse array of talented and legendary artist including: Kool G Rap, The Game, Masta Ace, Slum Village, Brand Nubian, Brother Ali, Vast Aire and Immortal Technique.

AKIR’s strongest influences include: the finesse of Slick Rick, the mellow vibe and consistent originality of Q-Tip, the smooth delivery and GQ style of Big Daddy Kane, the complexity and pietism of Nas, the rapid fire flow and intensity of Kool G Rap, and the lyricism of Rakim. AKIR’s vocals are, to say the least, persuasive, melodious, and addictive. His flow is compelling and vividly euphonic with lyrics that are a testament to hip-hop in its purest form.

Look for the new AKIR album coming this year from One Enterprises in a joint venture with Viper Records and executive produced by Immortal Technique.

news Midi Mafia's Deemi (Audio feat. Styles P) - July 15, 2005 By : SGV

The streets of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn are known for their tough and unforgiving nature. Every so often someone conquers these hurdles to share their stories with the world. In 1994, the Notorious B.I.G.'s incredible lyrics painted vivid portraits of life in Bed Stuy's streets to change hip-hop forever. In 2004, a new star has emerged from those same streets but this time it's a female singing heartfelt songs of pain, sorrow and survival over knockin' Hip Hop beats to once again change the game. The artist's name is Deemi and soon the world will hear the soundtrack of her life.

In 1998, a chance meeting with music producer Chris Styles led to Deemi's first demo recordings and she signed with his company, Dangerous, LLC. During this early phase of her career she also started to work with Styles' producer friend from down the block Bruce Wayne. Wayne would later become partners with another producer, Dirty Swift and together they formed Midi Mafia, producing 50 Cent's smash hit "21 Questions." This led to an increase in production opportunities for Midi Mafia, but they had not forgotten about Deemi. They continued to write and record demos with her and Styles but realized they needed to do something drastic to make her music stand out. Styles and Wayne realized that Deemi's life story was so interesting and compelling it made sense to write about her experiences to give her songs the edge they were seeking.

The new songs embraced the hardships Deemi endured, talking about them in a graphic but provocative manner. She also began to do her own freestyles, singing her raw lyrics over hot Hip Hop instrumentals of the moment. Styles distributed the freestyles to mixtape DJ's, creating a buzz about "the hood's princess" in the streets. Thus began the construction of songs for Deemi's debut album, aptly titled "Soundtrack Of My Life."

Here's 2 Songs from Deemi. First is a song called "Hoodz Princess" featuring D-Block emcee Styles P.

Hoodz Princess feat. Styles P

Here we have "Why Niggas Always Wanna Fuck"

news "Anger Management 3" Tour Bus In Accident - July 14, 2005 By : JustinL

An Anger Management 3 tour bus whose passengers included Eminem's DJ, Alchemist, and the Detroit rapper's latest protégé, Atlanta's Stat Quo, collided with a pair of tractor-trailers just outside Odessa, Missouri, before overturning Wednesday night, triggering a six-vehicle pileup that left a dozen people seriously injured.

Those injured were rushed to nearby hospitals - some of them, via helicopter. Seven tour bus passengers sustained injuries, although police did not disclose specific details on what or how severe those injuries were.

Stat Quo, who was listed on the accident report by his real name, Stanley Benton , was rushed to Independence Regional Health Center in Independence, Missouri, where he was treated and released, according to a hospital spokesperson. Stat's manager, Joseph Fendrick, was transported to the same hospital, where he's listed in fair condition.

Scott Cherry, a Shady Records bodyguard who protects 50 Cent and Eminem, was treated at and released from St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Alan Maman, perhaps better known by his stage name, Alchemist, is still being treated at St. Luke's for his injuries, as is his brother and co-manager, Neil Maman. Both are listed in good condition.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol accident report, the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, on a heavily trafficked stretch of Interstate 70 outside Odessa. The bus - bound for Denver, the site of Thursday night's (July 14) Anger Management 3 tour stop - was "traveling at a high rate of speed" when its driver swerved onto the highway's shoulder, to avoid the slower-moving tractor-trailers.

The bus slid off the right side of the roadway, but then veered sharply to the left and back onto the highway, clipping one of the trucks.

The force from the impact shot the truck across several lanes of traffic and over the highway median, into the oncoming traffic lane. The bus continued its trajectory, striking a second 18-wheeler. The brunt of that collision forced the bus onto its side; the vehicle came to rest on the highway's median, with a portion of the bus protruding into the eastbound lanes. Four other vehicles, including two motorcycles, collided with truck and bus debris.

According to the Kansas City Star, the driver of one of the tractor-trailers, Breck Wyngarden, estimated the bus' speed at 85 mph.

It was not clear at press time how the accident would affect the remainder of the tour - which features 50 Cent, Eminem, Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz, G-Unit, D12, Obie Trice and Stat Quo - or Thursday night's concert in Denver. MTV News will be updating this developing story throughout the day.

news Introducing: Sani G (Audio) (feat. Devin The Dude) - July 13, 2005 By : SGV

In a city infamous for its murder rate, Hasani “Sani G” Adams, 25, was born and raised to succeed in the streets of Gary, IN, frequently the United States’ “Murder Capital” for the past decade. He joined the notorious Gangsta Disciples at a young age, and his life on 48th Ave. began with drugs and hustling. Later, he put aside his first love, basketball, to begin rhyming at the age of 14, declaring himself as “one of the realest niggas comin’ from the middle of the map,” though the streets occupied most of his time.

After losing several friends at a young age due to gang violence, Sani G began to question his future. As a result of his contemplation, he enrolled in college at Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. After years of hard work, a college degree, and beginning life as a father for his daughter, Sani G went back to the studio to pursue what he really wanted out of life.

Over the past year, Sani G, along with fellow artists Dave Speed, The Fam and producer DJ Meech under Rob N Hood Records, released several mixtapes, generating Sani G’s major underground buzz, selling more than 21,000 independent units. As more mixtape DJ’s begin taking notice, the attention garnered from across the country is increasing his popularity.

Inspired by Eightball & MJG, U.G.K., Scarface, and, of course, the late, greats 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G., Sani G is not your average 16-bar spitter. His style is considered universal, a result of the influence of the various types of music he was subjected to growing up. He appeals to all listeners as proven by the variety of mixtape DJ’s who play his music from all parts of the country. These DJ’s include DJ Warrior (West Coast); Rob N Hood (Midwest); DJ Drama, DJ Ideal, DJ Eleve-8 (Down South); DJ Finesse, DJ Radio and Sickamore (East Coast), as well as other major DJ’s.

Sani G has a Southern flow with an East Coast vibe, blended with a West Coast gangsta mentality and the distinct Midwest attitude that demands to be heard. He is a force to be reckoned with.

Here's two exclusive tracks from Sani G. First up, we have a Freestyle over The Game's "Dreams" beat. On it, he addresses a certain St. Louis rapper for not, according to Sani, repping the MidWest right. That rapper? Chingy. Here's the track, to hear what he has to say about Chingaling.

Sani G - Dreams Freestyle (Chingy Diss)

On this next track, you get to hear Sani's variety, if you will. Enlisting the help of Houston legend Devin The Dude, Sani drops an ode to "Some of the best shit in the World... Pussy!" The song is titled, what else, "Pussy."

Sani G feat. Devin The Dude - Pussy

news Introducing: Caliber (Audio) - July 12, 2005 By : SGV

Caliber was born Daniel Salvador on May 2nd, 1980 in Los Angeles, CA to Mexican immigrants. His parents migrated to the United States in the 1960's, hoping to better their families situation. Caliber was the 5th child out of 5, being the youngest, Caliber grew up around brothers and uncles involved in the gang infested streets of the City of Angeles.

Although not involved deep in the life of a Gangster, it was all around him. He was forced to mature at an early age when his Girlfriend became pregnant with their first of four children. He dropped out of school during the start of the 10th grade and tried getting a job, but when he found out no one was quick to hire a 15 year old drop out, he felt he had no other but to start selling rock to try to support his live in Girlfriend at the time.

Music was a major part of his life, from West Coast Rap to Oldies, to even Classic Rock. Music was and still is a major influence in his life. He believes in expressing himself through his music. After many years of struggling to break into the music industry, Caliber managed to open up for some of the biggest names in Hip Hop. Too Short, E-40, Booya T.R.I.B.E., Chingy, Digital Underground, 2 Live Crew, Jayo Felony and many more. He also has a debut album which is coming out October 25th under Most High Records/Free Angency. Caliber hopes to one day work with Hip Hop Legend Dr. Dre and drop a record with the new Compton sensation The Game.

Caliber has been blessed to have West Side Connection affiliated veterans AllFrumThaI faetured on one of his songs called "Party Tonite." Peep that:

Caliber feat. AllFrumThaI - Party Tonite

Also, Caliber has a song with up and coming artist, Dutch of F.I.L.T.H.E.E. Immigrants, a group that we first brought to you last year here on DubCNN, entitled "Ridin' On." Check that out:

news Ray Cash - C.O.D.: Cash On Delivery - July 12, 2005 By : SGV

"I'm from the Eastside of Cleveland. Grew up in this spot called 'The Hill,' directly across from the projects. I was a young cat, seeing everything that was going on. My mama would tell me, 'Don't take your ass across the street.' But I was a kid, you know, so I was fascinated. Back then it was real heavy with the crack and the guns and everything. Cleveland ain't nothing but a big ghetto anyway, man."

That environment also provided the groundwork for Ray Cash the MC. "I got into Hip-Hop from hanging around the older dudes. Listening to Scarface. Listening to NWA. The shit they were talking about, the guys I hung around with were actually doing. When I got to high school, I would dib and dabble with it. My man would beat on the table and I'd bust a freestyle. People would say, 'Man, you can really rap.' But I'd say 'Get the fuck outta here.' But when Jay-Z came through Cleveland for the Hard Knock Life tour, that made me wanna rap for real. I was always a Jay fan, but seeing him be himself on stage, so cool, so laid back. He was just doing him. To see somebody do him and see people respond to it. That's power right there. It just clicked with me."

Ray talks about his early music influences, "When I came up people just cared about putting out good music. Didn't seem like they were hung up on whether they sold a million the first week. You don't get that kind of feel no more. The other day I was watching videos with three of my dudes when 'Big Poppa' came on. And everybody just stared like they were in a daze. You miss it. A cat telling you some real honest shit. You don't hear that no more. And that's part of why my approach is the way it is. A lot of people only know what's on the radio, and they accept it. I don't wanna just accept it."

He certainly doesn't accept it on C.O.D.: Cash On Delivery, a triumphant debut propelled by beat-smiths like Rockwilder, Rick Rock and Knoxxxx. From the rambunctious "The Bomb" and the playfully humorous "Sex Appeal" to the poignant hometown statement "Payback," Ray Cash hits the worn out rap scene with a mainline hit of reality. Then there's the incendiary "Fuck AmeriKKKa," a record that recalls rap history at its middle-fingered best, combining the defiance of Ice Cube with the street prophet's poetic lens of young Nas.

"Niggas don't let they nuts hang no more. It's rap: say what the fuck you wanna say. Luke said it. Cube said it. Man, I'm from Cleveland, one of the worst cities to live in. We're at the bottom of the barrel. The budget's fucked up. Can't nobody get a job. And I'm talking about cats in high school who just wanna work at Footlocker. So cats resort to doing whatever they gotta do. 'Fuck AmeriKKKa' was just my way of saying that what you, the system, thinks is priority, ain't the priority. We the priority. We the ones hurting. I ain't no big political cat, but I watch the news. I see what's going on. I walk the streets. I can see what's fucked up. I can see what's real."

Here's Real Audio Stream of his first single "Sex Appeal."

Look for an Interview with Ray Cash very soon.

news Nock, Nock....Nock Is Coming! - July 12, 2005 By : Rud

Westcoast Stand Up! Once again the time is here to take note and acknowledge a new artist keen to grace your stereos with some new music! As always dubcnn is here to give new artists a platform to gain recognition and a fan base. A new son is shining on the West in the form of a 21 year old flame spitter named after a man in The Bible who never saw death, Enock. Born in Long Beach and raised in what he describes as "Every hood possible in L.A. County!" including Compton, Gardena, Carson, Inglewood, Norwalk and SC Los Angeles, Enock has led a life you can write a book on!

The world will soon discover just the kind of amazing talent this young MC has to offer. What started off as a hobby to pass the time evolved into a full fledged career a few years ago when as a misguided teenager he found himself homeless and living on the street : "My life was going nowhere, I had to do something. Music was just a gift the Lord gave me and it saved my life."

And now, a few defunct groups and sour record deals later, Enock stands alone as one of the most promising new talents to hit the rap industry in years. Drawing comparisons to artists ranging from 2Pac to Jay-Z, Enock combines undeniable lyricism and rhyme skills with established street credibility and Hollywood ready looks. He is one who possesses a certain charismatic star quality that is rarely seen in Hip Hop anymore. After his first official mixtape release, Born Supremacy, Enock has built on his already impressive street buzz and began to turn the heads of several big time players in the industry. The upcoming release of the second installment in his Born Supremacy series, Vol. 2: "Sucks to be you!" is sure to give Enock his place amongst the upper echelon of young gunners in the world of Hip Hop.

After locking down his hometown of Los Angeles and sparking a movement that is quickly gaining momentum around the country, Enock is looking to take his place amongst Hip Hops young elite : "Lyrically, I’ll put my self up there with anybody because if you listen to my records I’m really talking about something! Every bar serves a purpose, I aint just rappin’ for the sake of rappin’! A freestyle is one thing but when it’s time to make a song I can make a great song."

Enock is already receiving attention from several labels and has just begun work on his debut album, which he promises will be unlike anything the world has ever heard! Afterall, how many MC’s list Salsa, Rock, Reggae, Soul and Classical as musical influences. It won’t be long before the name Enock will be on the lips of every fan, of every genre of music on the planet! It’s time to brace ourselves...Nock is coming!

Interested? Of course you are, as Hip-Hop fans we have to take note of notable new talents, we have dropped information on so many artists over the years, most recently Flixx and now Enock. Here we have some audio for you to check. Once you've done that head over to the world famous WCC Forums and drop some feedback!

Enock - The Flyest (Produced By Sega) (Street Single)

Sound familiar? It should. SkiLL uses this classic line by Kurupt as the hook for his latest effort, entitled, "Verbal 44." If you liked "The Dino" you'll like this.

SkiLL has been recording with 40 Glocc, The Zoo Babies, Kay9ine, W.S. Bugg and others out in the I.E. as of late. Expect a feature featuring these emcees real soon on DubCNN.

news Balance Inks Deal With SMC/ Fontana - July 7, 2005 By : SGV

Tuesday July 5, 2005, San Francisco, CA- West Coast rising star, Balance signs with San Francisco, CA based Independent record label, SMC Recordings. Over the past year, Oakland, CA native, Balance has become one the hottest unsigned acts in the country. After building a deafening buzz on mixtapes and hailed as the next rapper to blow in publications like XXL, Billboard and The Source, Balance has been courted left and right by labels- both major and independent alike.

His choice for SMC/Fontana was simple. “I was getting call’s from the majors but I’ve always wanted to stick with the Bay tradition of being independent- at least for my first album. I chose SMC/ Fontana because they’re track record for Bay Area artists speaks for itself, and they’ve broken new acts. Plus they’re really behind me on this project.

Balance represents a new breed of artists who are without regional boundaries," said SMC President, Ralph Tashjian “We’re excited for him to be one of our first releases through our new venture with Fontana Distribution. We’re confident he will become a franchise player on a team filled with all-stars.

Balance joins veterans Bizzy Bone, B-Legit and San Quinn on the SMC/Fontana roster. His debut Young & Restless is slated for release this September and features guest appearances by Stat Quo, Chamillionaire, Keak Da Sneak and The Frontline.

Shouts to Dow Jones for the info.

If you haven't already, peep Balance's new track "Right Here" which we premiered for you a few weeks ago.

news Beats By The Bay: The Bay Area Documentary - July 3, 2005 By : SGV

Beats By The Bay is a Documentary film by Filmmaker Bobby Mardis, about the Bay Area Rap scene. The Bay is a very important, but often forgotten, factor in Hip Hop today. As you already know, and you'll see in this film, many of today's Rap trends started in, but are rarely credited to, The Bay. From Independent to Major, The Bay has it all. In Beats By The Bay, you can see live performances and/or Interviews from E-40, Mac Dre(R.I.P.), Paris, San Quinn, Suga T, Tajai of Hieroglyphics/Souls Of Mischief, Skip of UTP, Conscious Daughters, MC Hammer, Too Short, Outlawz, Mac Mall, B-Legit, Mr. Kee, Dutch, Lil Ric, Laroo, Luni Coleone, Marvaless, Mistah F.A.B., The Mosse, Nuttso, Whoridas and many more.

The story is told by up and coming Bay rapper Kontac, whom we had a chance to speak with briefly about the project. Here's what he had to say:

"Beats By The Bay is a series of Dvds: Volume 1, 'Something To Say' is the first in the series, which drops July 5th in The Bay, July 9th Nationwide. 'Something To Say' deals with what Bay Area artists go through when doing their music. How they do it, this volume is more of the Social film."

He continues:

"Volume 2, 'The Independent Game' is a step above 'Somthing To Say,' to where you see the artist show you how some of them work on their CDs Art Work, Production, Mastering, Distrobution, get point of views from retial outlets and Mom and Pop chains. Get info straight from the artist's mouth."

"The other 2 volumes are the Indusrty Music guide. 1 and 2 talks to ASCAP and BMI people, who talk about publishing and lawyers. You will see Russell Simmons and his wife (Kimora Lee Simmons) talk about the music game. If you watch these last 2 films, it's like going to The Gavin or The How Can I Be Down summitts in one CD. A new artist can watch these and do basically everything needed for putting out an album."

I asked Kontac about how he and the DVD's will help The Bay, to which he responded:

"I will help The Bay get world wide reconition where the world can see where the terms 'Pop ya Collar,' 'Oh Boy,' and 'Player Haters' came from. The world can see where the Independent Game came from."

As for what Kontac is up to musically:

"Next up, I got my artist Erase E who was on the first Westcoast Bad Boy's album. His album 'Smoove But Aggresive' drops the end of July and features Twista, Frontline, Silkee, Kontac and a host of others. The Kontac album drops the end of August and features San Quinn, Ya Boy, Erase E, Sean T, Balance, 2 Live Crew, Dap, Mac n AK, and others. The Beats By The Bay Soundtrack is fire, features San Quinn, Hoodstars, JT The Bigga Figga, Cellski, A-Wax, Frontline, Balance, Mistah F.A.B., Erase E, Sean T, Mac n AK, Mr. Kee, and others. First single 'Bay Ridin' features San Quinn, Kontac and J.Slimm is getting radio play now. The video is being shot middle of August and features Super Model Rita-G."

Finally, I asked Kon where he sees The Bay in 5 years:

"5 years from now The Bay will be where it was from 1992-1995. We can not fumble the ball when we get it! Hit up BeatsByTheBay.com for more info. Thank you DubCNN for ya support."

news R.I.P. Luthor Vandross - July 1, 2005 By : mrtonguetwista

R&B Singer Luther Vandross Dies

"The Insider" has confirmed that R&B legend LUTHER VANDROSS passed away Friday at the age of 54. Sources tell "The Insider" that Vandross' death was unexpected, and that a memorial service is planned in New York sometime next week. The singer sold over 25 million records during a long and successful career that began in the 1970s. In 1981, he released his debut album, Never Too Much, and went on to become one of the most popular musicians of the 1980s, cranking out lasting hits like "Here and Now" and "The Best Things in Life Are Free." Vandross hit the top of the charts again in the '90s with a duet with MARIAH CAREY of "Endless Love." His soulful pop crooning went on to inspire artists like USHER and ALICIA KEYS, as well as "American Idol" and record labelmate RUBEN STUDDARD. Sources also report that a tribute album for Vandross is in the works. In April 2003, Vandross suffered a stroke due in part to his struggle with diabetes; he then spent close to a month in a coma, and battled meningitis and pneumonia after the attack.

dubcnn.com sends our condolences to Mr. Vandross' family and friends. He will be greatly missed. =(

news Introducing: Dino West & Ruga (No Limit West) - July 1, 2005 By : SGV

As you all know, the Southern Powerhouse Record label, No Limit, started out in Richmond, CA, The Bay. Once business picked up, CEO Master P took his company back to his hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. He continually showed his love for the West by dropping a West Coast Bad Boys Compilation and a string of Snoop Dogg solo albums.

Today, on the New No Limit, now through Koch, you'll find two West Coast emcees. One being Los Angeles emcee Ruga, whom you can find on P's latest single "Get The Party Crackin'," off his newest solo.

Then there's Dino West, who hails from West Los Angeles. Although no stranger to music, he hasn't released any music in the past, or been signed with any Major or Underground label.

Now, ready to jump off theis rap careers, they've both secured spots with arguably one of Hip-Hop's most prolific labels. No Limit's been gone from the race for a few years, and are now ready to make their comeback with Ruga and Dino West as one of the Many leaders of the new generation of No Limit/Black Sopranos.

Here's some audio from these Dino and Ruga.

This is Dino West's 16 from Master P's "Ima Gangsta." Peep it:

news Introducing: Mic Check - July 1, 2005 By : SGV

Busting onto the scene from the gang-riddled Crenshaw area of Los Angeles, we have Mic Check. Three charismatic, talented, young men with great flow and stellar personalities to match. They free-style, dance, act, write, produce and completely entertain. In the words of Big Red from the Five Heartbeats, “What don’t you do?” And the answer to that is…they simply do it all.

Comprised of high-school friends Jonathan Wellman (J-Double), Robert Marshall (Gizmo) and Brian Allen (B-Cautious), the 17-year olds are getting a great head start on their visionary rap careers. They have a deal with Los Angeles based label Ex Recordings, their debut album is complete, national radio promotions are about to kick off, and a banging video for their single “I’m Fresh” is ready to hit screens everywhere. Their live set is none too shabby either ~ their tours of Los Angeles Middle and High schools have caused near riots as word of their skills got around ~ especially amongst the young ladies.

Mic Check came to Ex Recordings after founder Michael London, an entertainment attorney and film producer, began a talent search for his start-up label. With his finger in many entertainment endeavors, Michael’s reach was wide and he received hundreds of submissions from young hopefuls looking for their break. “When I started Ex Records we received countless submissions by many groups and solo artists. Michael muses. “There was just something about Mic Check though that was undeniable. They are the whole package.”

These young men have begun to build an impressive buzz on the streets. Some of the highlights of their zooming career have been performing at the Inglewood Forum for “Battle Zone 3 ½”, ‘krump dancing’ with Tommy the Clown, who stars in David Lachapelle’s directorial debut “Rize”, performing at the Geneva Awards and opening for The Ruff Ryders in Oakland, CA.

These kids haven’t missed a beat stepping into the game at this point and their plan is to continue getting rave reviews for the next ten years to come and then some. Their debut album “Guaranteed”, which drops July 19th, 2005, will speak for itself, and we’re sure it has a lot to say.

Keep your dial set to Mic Check. You don’t want to miss what’s next. ExRecords.com
