Blunts LLA - November 29, 2004 By : SGV

Blunts The Latin Lyrical Assassin or just plain Blunts LLA has apparently got a spot on the up and coming DJ Whoo Kid Mixtape. Blunts is an emcee out of South Central and has been putting in work, in the Hip Hop scene, for years. I'm pretty sure a lot of you have slept on him, but it's time to wake up. He's worked with Battlecat and Jellyroll and he was featured on The Ollin Project, the Pass The Mic DVD and was on the Pocos Pero Locos 2004 Tour and CD along with Diamonique, Monteloco and others. Here's the song that will be on Whoo Kid's tape, "Here Comes Blunt LLA". Here's some other tracks: His version of the Juvenlie, Wacko & Skip's "Nolia Clap" entitled, "Cali Clap". "Step Into The Sun" is his track from the Ollin Project. And finally here's "Hold You Down" and "West Coast Joker".
Shouts to BYI Entertainment for posting the info on our forum.

Have you slept on Contac? - November 24, 2004 By : Yash
This young man has performed on stage with artists such as Ludacris, Twista, Ja-Rule, Mystikal, David Banner, Yin Yang Twins, Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, and Chingy, just to name a few.
But CONTAC has been saving his best for last. "It's time to show and prove that "EEYEAYA" is indeed the album that I've always wanted to make." His producers on this project are talented beyond belief, and they have brought something real spicy to the table.
He was born on the east coast (Connecticut), raised in the Midwest (Minnesota)and dirty south rooted from Arkansas, his unique sound and lyrical weaponry is guaranteed to Blow-up. Most recently, CONTAC worked on collaboration with Atlanta's own Lil Jon & The Eastside Boys (BME/TVT Records). The song "Do Something is a very crunk up-tempo song that is ready for action.
He also took a trip to the westcoast and recorded a song with Kurupt called "Whats Pappin" and the other song he did while being in california was the banger "What We Do" featuring Bad Azz.
Make sure you go out and checkout his album titled "Eeyeaya Ready 2 Play"!Discuss This Topic

Introducing: Reazn & Malverde - November 23, 2004 By : SGV

Hailing from North East Los Angeles, in the city of Highland Park, comes this bilingual wonder, known as Reazn. When I first met Reazn in August at the Latin Rap Conference in San Diego, we chopped game about Hip Hop and life in general, and clicked right away. He likes everyone from the Dungeon Family to Too Short, not to mention he lives the B-Boy lifestyle. He breaks, he emcees and he graf's, retaining 3 of Hip Hop's key elements. He's not just some Chicano Rapper you hear on Pocos Pero Locos.
Flipping in English and Spanish, Reazn is a rarity in the Hip Hop game. He's no slouch in either language, when he busts, he's as serious as cancer. On his album La Razon De Ser, translated as Reason Being, he touches on the streets, his life, growth and a number of other social concepts that are rarely touched upon in Hip Hop, especially in Latin Hip Hop. His album is tough, I bumped it the weekend I got it, and haven't stopped yet. I conducted a real short Mini Interview outside of Sinful of Tha Mexakinz' album release party with Reazn. Peep that to get insight from the man himself. I'll put text up for it soon, and believe me, I'll bring a more in depth interview soon, as well.
Here is 3 songs from his album, so you can hear what he's working with. First is the catchy Espanol O Ingles, then we got, exactly what the title suggests, something new in the track Algo Nuevo and last but not least, Reazn invites you into his life with Welcome To My World. If you enjoyed these tracks, or want to hear more of Reazn, you can cop the album for 10 dollars or listen to a few more tracks here.
Shouts to the whole Contraband Records crew!!!
Now I'm going to take you just East of Los Angeles, into the Desert area, in a VERY important city in California, for the growth of Latinos, called Coachella. Here we find Malverde. He brings an amazing presence on the mic. He flips his raps in Spanish like no other. The first time I heard his album I was hooked. His rhymes are intelligent, yet understandable and rather catchy. I also conducted a Mini Interview with the man outside of Sinful's release party, so go ahead and listen to that to hear more from him and who he is. Much like with Reazn, we'll bring you a more indepth interview with Malverde soon. He has a lot to say, and DubCNN is willing to be the outlet for that.
On to his album. Mi Palabra, which means "My Word," contains 13 tracks, fully in Spanish. Even though some of you may not be able to understand Spanish, the production WILL catch your attention, without a doubt. He carries a militant mindset, with the ability to move the crowd. He pays his respects for the man he got his name from, Jesus Malverde, as well as brings to light issues he's lived with and many others who came up as he did, have lived with. To get a taste of Malverde, here's three tracks, as well:
The title track, Mi Palabra, the infectious Sonador and finally the insightfull Asi So Yo.
If you enjoyed those tracks, make sure you head to his Official Site and cop the album.
Both of these artists are performing tonight at the House Of Blues on the Sunset Strip. I strongly suggest peeping this show out, to not only see them, but Crooked Stilo, Kemo, Mellow Man Ace and others.
Latin Hip Hop is here, and it ain't a game anymore!!! Latinos stand the fuck up!Discuss This Topic

Weapons Of Mass Destruction - November 22, 2004 By : SGV

A week and half ago, DubCNN was in full effect at the Sony offices for the Xzibit "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" listening party. I was gonna put up a review of what I thought of the album, but was shocked to see that it had already been leaked to the net. I didn't feel the need to let everyone know the scoop on the album, since most probably already heard it by then. But, with a little persuasive talks, thanks to Yash, I'll drop a tiny review. In the house that night was Super Producer Bosko, Latin Fros, Damizza and a few others. Sony were great hosts. They had an open bar the whole night, along with free Valet Parking, which I'm not used to, at all. So big ups to them for that, I for one appreciated it.
As for the album, it knocked, seriously. This is a major step up from Restless and Man Vs. Machine, both of which I disliked. The production was NICE on this album, very fitting for X. The features were crazy, Steady Gang on a track with Suga Free? WOW! Everyone held their own. For me, it was nice to hear Phil Da Agony and Krondon finally get the recognition they deserve. I felt X really got his bars up this go around. Since he's rollin' with SAS, it seems his mind is back in the right place. Make sure you cop this album. And here's some pics.

It's That Time: Calling All Artists! - November 22, 2004 By : SGV
All of you established, underground, independent, up and coming, but most importantly, DOPE artists: If you're interested in doing shows at the Vault 350 in Long Beach, this is a must read. Juda Starr Ent. is getting together Hip Hop shows at this location, which has hosted shows, for the likes of Too Short, Digital Underground, and MANY more and will soon have shows from KRS-One, Bone Thugs and others to it's name. A good Hip Hop crowd is always in attendance. The spot it's self is spacious, has many bars, a big stage and a huge floor. I'd compare it to a House Of Blues set up and is in a great location in Long Beach, on Pine Ave. near all the clubs. If this interests you in anyway, please contact Juda at (562) 239-1178 or (562) 590-5566. You can E-Mail him at: billionforce@yahoo.com or Juda@vault350.com. as well. It don't matter where you're from, if you want to perform, just hit him up. This is a great oppurtunity for many artists out there, don't let this chance slip away.
Check the Vault 350's site for info on the location.

Crooked Stilo/JenRo - November 22, 2004 By : SGV
The Salvadorean brothers form Los Angeles, Crooked Stilo have two videos up for you two check out. One is called "Chicas," the other is "Colegialas." If you haven't had a taste of the Urban Regional sound, here's your chance to finally be exposed. Also, for those in the L.A. area, my girl LatinaBeatz already reported on it, but let me elaborate a little more. Crooked Stilo will be performing tomorrow, Tuesday, November 23rd, with Mellow Man Ace, Don Cisco, Kemo The Blaxican, Locura Terminal, Reazn and many more at the House Of Blues on the Sunset Strip. Her update, which is about half the page down, contains the flyer. Make sure you peep this show, as it's Latin HIP HOP at it's finest. Especially if you're tired of that BULLSHIT you hear on Pocos Pero Locos.
In other Latin Hip Hop news, JenRO's album The Revelation underwent major surgery. According to Young Joe the "beats are slappin', front to back now. At the moment we don’t know what features will stay but trust it will be Hot. That should be out in March and we plan on shooting her video at the end of January." You can catch JenRo on VH1’s “My Coolest Years,” airing next month.
Here are two new songs she recorded: "Ain't Ready" and "Red Rova."
For the latest on JenRo check her official site.
Big Ups to Young Joe of Unknown Muzic and EstiloUrbano.net for the heads up.

Xzibit On EA Sports Cover! - November 19, 2004 By : Nima
Xzibit has landed the cover of Electronic Arts’ NFL Street 2 with All-pro New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey.
Xzibit’s cover marks the first time a music artist has been featured on the front of an EA Sports video game title.
The rapper provides extensive voiceovers for the game and teaches gamers the rules of street football in the game.
"If it wasn't for the kind of street football played in NFL Street 2, I would not be where I am today," Shockey said. "This is how most NFL players started their careers and now you can play at a new level, an-all new high flying football game with incredible wall moves and new modes."
Dubbed “the Rucker Park of the football scene,” players square off on a half-dirt, half-grass fenced in field, surrounded by high-rise projects.
Online play, additional gameplay modes and interaction with the walls are among the new features of NFL Street 2.
“Our goal with NFL Street 2 was to make the gameplay of the first version of NFL Street obsolete,” said Jason Barnes, designer of NFL Street 2. “To do this, we needed to add new gameplay features and improve on the original. Once we got the wall catches up and running, we knew we had added something unique and fun to football gaming.”
In related news, Xzibit hosted MTV’s 11th Annual MTV Europe Awards in Rome last night(November 18th).

Mr. Cheeks New Album - November 19, 2004 By : Nima
As front-man for the celebrated rap quartet the Lost Boyz, Mr. Cheeks helped his Queens, N.Y.-based crew climb the charts and etch themselves in the hip-hop hall of fame with a Platinum-selling album Legal Drug Money (1996) and the Gold-certified Love Peace And Happiness (1997).
The gritty party flavour that typified Cheeks' music with the Lost Boyz has carried over to his equally successful solo career, which has been highlighted by the smash single “Lights, Camera, Action!,” included on Cheeks’ acclaimed debut solo album, 2001's John P. Kelly. The song's explosive remix, featuring P. Diddy and Missy Elliott, reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Chart and Hot Rap Singles Chart.
After nearly a decade in the major label system, Cheeks decided in 2004 to stake out on his own, forming independent label Legal Drug Money Records. The first release on the imprint is Mr. Cheeks' highly anticipated third solo album, Ladies and Ghettomen.
The album's first single is the pulsating “It's Alright,” featuring Truth Hurts. The legendary Pete Rock, producer of Busta Rhymes, Public Enemy, and Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, produced the radio and club ready “All I Know,” along with several other tracks on the album. Elsewhere, Cheeks continues his party ways on the celebratory "Tonight" and the clever "The Girl Is Mine," an update of the classic Michael Jackson/Paul McCartney tune. Cheeks says, "We're just regular street guys that like to party, spend money, love the women and enjoy life. That's what the album is mainly about."
Legal Drug Money Records, Contango Records and local label Barcode Records have joined forces to release the album in Australia on November 19th 2004, when it will be available through JB Hi-Fi stores nationally.Discuss This Topic

FBI Nabs MC Eiht For Grand Theft Auto - November 17, 2004 By : Nima
MC Eiht has long been considered a “Menace II Society” by his fans, and his crime spree continues with his role in the Rockstar Playstation II video game, “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.” The gangsta game title is currently topping sales statistics around the world. On it, the veteran rapper, Eiht, plays the role of the featured character, Ryder, and the song, “Hood Took Me Under” from his group, Comptons Most Wanted is included on its soundtrack. Just a few weeks ago, he also released a solo album, “Veterans Day” on West Music/Native Records and the album made its way on the “Billboard” Top 100 R&B Albums chart.
Although in addition to his music, Eiht is also famous for his role as A-Wax in the feature film, “Menace II Society,” the rapper says, “I would compare Ryder’s character more to O Dog from the movie than to A-Wax, because he’s more reckless, and he’s more drug induced. A-Wax was still down for the neighborhood, but Ryder is an instigator, and he likes to pump up the other characters, especially his homeboy CJ. Ryder likes to instigate and get trouble started. He’s on dope and he’s always smoking, plus he’s hyper about getting trouble started.”
Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser, the executive producer of the game, which market analysts predict will help make this holiday buying season a record breaker for new games, says, “Eiht’s powerful and funny delivery insures that Ryder steals the show. From the moment we walked into the studio, we knew he was going to blow us away with his performance.”
“Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” debuted at the Number 1 spot on the UK game charts, and according to industry estimates, the gangsta title sold more than 2 million copies during the first 2 weeks of its release. “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” was developed by Take-Two Interactive Software, an imprint of Rockstar Games.
Eiht says the combination of West Coast elements with the game world makes perfect sense. He observes, “Basically, one game was pretty much East Coast, and there was Vice City, which was Miami-based, or whatever. So now basing one on the West Coast, which is where the name San Andreas fits in, that is taken from our earthquake fault, and then hooking up with people like me and DJ Pooh, and getting that West Coast feel, you can only base the game around gangs and the element of the West Coast lifestyle. That means it is essentially gang bangin,’ drive-by shootings, drugs, police corruption and police brutality, all of that element. So it was only right, and this is not to say that is how all people live out here, but that element and culture would fit right here.”
As far as both the exponential success and the reaction to the gangsta phenomenom that is being incorporated into the game world, Eiht notes, “In the other games, you’re playing the stereotypical characters named Joe or Bill, and he’s been robbed by the mob. But in making it West Coast originated, and by putting gangs and drive-bys in it, activities that normally go on in the West Coast, it makes the game more realistic for people to play. Kids relate to the game because they know that stuff is what really happens. It is more realistic to them, because this stuff is going on everywhere, and not just on the West Coast, either, so it appeals to them. With this game, you really put yourself in the settings of living in Los Angeles and living in the gang scenario. This game shows what’s really going on in the streets.”
As far as the game’s music soundtrack, Eiht says, “They took a classic Comptons Most Wanted song, “Hood Took Me Under,” and they put it on the game. That song describes the scenario the players are dealing with. You’re stuck in the ‘hood, you’re having rivalries and shootouts, and you have enemies. Back in the day, that was the perfect song, and one that people felt, because there were so many black people, who were stuck in the neighborhood, stuck in poverty, stuck in the struggle, so that song fit what so many people were going through. When Rockstar was looking at all the possibilities of what songs to use in the game, they knew you could not do a West Coast video game without a classic Comptons Most Wanted song. Originally, they had contacted me because they needed to have permission to use the song in the game. Everything was good. We built a relationship, and they asked me to play the character, so it just fell into place like that.”
Eiht also says he wants it to be known that the success of “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” is important for hiphop. He points out, “It will touch a lot of people who maybe weren’t previously interested in hiphop. The game introduces them to a whole new realm, and it will help open the door of hiphop to expand to a whole new era. Millions of people will have this game, and it’s significant, whereas it becomes incorporated into the rap game. So it’s beautiful for all who are involved. It gets more people exposed to hiphop, even if they never really wanted to before.”
Eiht says he is constantly approached these days by “all kinds of people,” who have asked him to autograph the game. “Kids come up to me saying they heard my song in the game,” says Eiht. “It happens on the streets, just everywhere. Not just kids have the game, but even old people have the game.” Eiht adds, “There are also people who come up to me and tell me it’s a challenge to get to my character.”
It has all been very rewarding to the players of the game, as well as to Eiht, himself. He contends, “It’s another experience that people get to indulge in, especially when it incorporates hiphop, and one of their favorite rappers who represents the ‘hood.”
MC Eiht’s West Music signed an alliance with Native Records to distribute his current release, “Veterans Day,” through Penalty Associated Labels/Ryko. Ken M. Smith, president of Native Records states, "Eiht's current album, "Veterans Day," could also be the soundtrack for the game, because the tales that Eiht raps about on the album coincide in many ways with the story line of the game. Lovers of the game will definitely be lovers of "Veterans Day." Discuss This Topic

Fighting Errupts At Vibe Awards! - November 16, 2004 By : Nima

Last nights Vibe Awards in California seem to have been total chaos. From Suge Knight yellin' out "Fuck The G-Unit" on stage, to Dr. Dre getting attacked by somebody in the crowd right when he was getting his lifetime achievement award presented to by Snoop Dogg & Quincy Jones, to somebody getting stabbed.
It is still not too clear what exactly went on, and it looks like the media is trying to cover up some shit, as MTV.com changed their article on this after an hour, taking out Suge's name. However, I have a link for you below to check out, it is a video of what happened from the news, check it out below:
News Report On The Vibe Awards and then click on the right under "Featured Videos" on "Chaos At Award Show".
Here are some pictures from the show:
Game & 50 Cent On Stage
Snoop Dogg & Quincy Jones Presenting Award
Crowd At The Show
Here is a news article on this:
"SANTA MONICA, Calif. - One person was stabbed at the second annual Vibe awards Monday as rapper Snoop Dogg and producer Quincy Jones were preparing to honor Dr. Dre with a lifetime achievement award, authorities and witnesses said.
Dozens of people sitting near the stage Monday inside a hangar at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport began shoving each other as the show wound down about 7:30 p.m., a photographer who covered the event for The Associated Press said.
News video showed chairs being thrown, punches flying, people chasing one another and some being restrained.
"To my understanding ... the show was going on when the stabbing occurred," said police Lt. Frank Fabrega in a press conference following the fight.
It was unclear if the stabbing preceded or followed the fight. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Police were looking for the assailant and no arrests have been made.
Witness Frank Williams told KCAL-TV that Dr. Dre was involved in the brawl.
"I saw Dr. Dre fighting somebody," Williams said. "I don't know if he was fighting back. But there was a guy taken out basically bloodied."
Andrea Ferguson, employed by a public relations firm that worked with Vibe for the awards ceremony, called the incident a "disruption" but declined to provide details. She added the show was allowed to continue but it was halted for about five minutes.
Dr. Dre, who was scheduled to receive a Vibe Legend Award for his lifetime contributions to hip-hop, had not come on stage yet when the fight erupted. Jones and Snoop Dogg stood on stage without saying anything.
"My understanding is that it was somewhat chaotic in there," Fabrega said.
About 1,000 people attended the event, some of whom scurried for the exits when the fight broke out.
"It's really important that we don't take a negative incident like this and do away with the awards," Suge Knight told reporters."
We'll keep you updated.Discuss This Topic

Anaheim Stadium Show Review - November 14, 2004 By : Nima
Our forum member "djkoast" has posted a review of this apparently amazing show on our message board, I thought I'd post it here too, as it sounds crazy!!
Here it is:
"ATCQ Reunion! First time they've been on stage in 6 years. Anahiem Stadium parking lot.
First of all let me just name everyone who was at the show yesterday at Anaheim Stadium: A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, X-clan, SPECIAL ED!, Supernatural, Cypress Hill, Xzibit, Strong Arm Steady crew, Tha Likz, Chino XL, Jurrasic 5, Sway and Tech, Dj Revolution, CMA, Little Brother, Dj Icey Ice (beat junkies represent), Mr Choc (beat junkies represent), J Rocc (beat junkies represent), Jaylib, Jay Dilla (D stand up!), Percey P (sp?), and Dj Mark Love.
ATCQ started the set off singing an ODB song to play tribute and then came out and had the crowd have a word of silence for Dirty, mad people throwing up their W's to show respect. Then went on to hug each other. The chemistry between those guys right when they hit the stage was electrifying. Real beautiful thing to see them together again. Got into a couple of jams, KILLED IT. **** was almost like a dream. If you havent seen ATCQ before I suggest you pull out any plans when they come to down and GO. After a few jams they brought out Special Ed for a few joints. Did a few more cuts and then brought out X-clan for a few joints. Went thru all the jams you could think of. Then brought out Mos Def and let him kick a few tracks by himself. Followed it up with a few more cuts then ended the night with Award Tour which had EVERYONE moving. Best concert ive ever seen hands down.
This isnt the order just quick comments...Little Brother came on early so not very many people were there but they were real good. Supernatural was a treat and a half. His 3 words, 3 MCs, and the left to right freestyle of whatever touches his hands really got the whole all day event poppin. J5put on an excellent show. Cut chemist and Dj Numark did their thing together and got the crowd seriously rocking for the guys following them. Numark laid electronic drums into like a high school desk and was pounding away. Xzibit and Cypress Hill need no explanation of how good they are. The drum solo with Bobo and B-real was amazing tho. Both were weaving in and out of each other on seperate drums. Lib and Jay Dilla put on a nice little show, never been a big fan of Jaylib but they nice with theres. After Dj Revolution had come technical difficulties he got on and lit the crowd on fire. There is a reason he gets the amount of respect he does. After everyone got news ODB died EVERYONE dedicated their set to him. Nice to see him get that love from the crowd and artists.
Few rumors, things worth mentioning, facts:
--Phife and Q are the most underrated duo in all of hip hop
--The Pharcyde said that ATCQ insipired them to get back together, so they will be working on a new album.
--Special Ed still has it and has a new album dropping, heard a few cuts on the wake up show last night. Go cop that!
-- Q-tip and Old Dirty Bastard have been long time friends. Q said him and ODB use to battle back when they were 15 or so.
--Tha Likz and Xzibit beef is SQUASHED. He brought them out to perform the likz cut off Restless. They came on stage, he admitted to him not being right without em, and then they all hugged.
--Chino XL is NOT DEAD. Sway and Tech brought him on stage and he kicked a few rhymes accapella. He also dissed actress Cherlon Thrize (or however you spell her fukkin name)
-- Supernatural, during his 3 MCs section of his set, took over Biggie's soul and dissed the fukk outta Guerilla Black.... "Who the Fukk is Guerilla Black / Tell him Biggie said to give his style back"
--Kanye West was suppose to show up but flaked out and turned out to be a no show after the crowd being real hyped he was gonna show up.
Mods this **** should be upped, it gets no more hip hop than this family. If you didnt go.....STOP FUKKIN SLEEPIN ON YASELF! CA ALLLLL DAYYYY!"Discuss This Topic

This album is smashin'! Mr. X 2 The Z Xzibit returns with a bang! His highly anticipated album "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" which is set to drop Nov. 29th, is filled with heat from top to bottom.
