I posed the question and waited for responses before I actually put my response.

I would say that the West Coast is not "BACK" to me at all, and that we were more "back" in 2001 than we are right now. For us to really be "back", it will definitely take more than just one artist. Game definitely did bring spotlight back to the West, and I would say that many artists are getting attention because of that. However, for him to continuously take credit for "bringin the west back", especially when he says he did it on his own, sounds very questionable to me.

For one...when we were runnin things, it wasn't just 1-2 artists that we had. If there was such thing as 106 and Park back between 94-96, I could imagine episodes where EIGHT of ten songs could have been west coast songs, wiht 5-6 bein rap and 2-3 bein R&B (Adina Howard, Montell Jordan, etc. etc.). At that time, it wasn't just the west coast artists who were in the spotlight....the west coast attitude, culture, style, and overall sound of music defined what rap and hip hop culture was at the time. You know how we see these commercials for cars that play songs that sound just like Usher "Yeah" and Big Boi "I like the way you move", 10 years ago, these commercials woulda sounded like "Gin and juice" "Nothin but a G Thang" and "Today was a good day". Everything from Movie soundtracks to Television show soundtracks had a west coast sound to them...listen to the music on Fresh Prince and Jamie Foxx.

With that...the west coast sound itself was on top, and I feel the west will not be "back" without havin some sound linked to us in the mainstream ear. So I definitely don't take anything away from Game for what he did, but I feel it is no way in the world that we can believe the west is "back" unless you weren't around in the mid 90's.

Game indeed brought back some attention to the West, but that's where it stops. Who else besides Game is really "doing it" on a mainstream level nowadays? Around 1999-2000 we had Xzibit, Warren G and Tha Eastsidaz all dropping albums that people outside the West were anticipating. Currently we don't have that...

As aforementioned by others: it will take several rappers at the same time who'll need to step up to the plate and deliver some good music (both for the hardcore West Coast hip-hop heads AND the mainstream since most of us want West Coast MC's to sell more units). You can't expect Game to "bring back the West", even if he says it himself. That's just promotion...no 1 man can bring the West back. It'll take guys like Bishop, Glasses and them to show the world what the West has got to offer.

when people say "back" do they mean 92-95, because i got news for yall, its never gonna be like that again.

so many of those classic albums went platinum plus, but now the big record labels want to keep it all commerical which makes it extremely hard for up-and-comming talent to sell like they used to, especially on the west coast where the majority of the national media doesnt even know whats going on.

not only that, but rap is much more diverse with the south doin its thing in a real big way, so i dont think you'll see the national spotlight dominated by one certain area like LA was doing back then
