Should We Forget About D.R.E.?
« on: May 21, 2006, 09:30:43 PM »
I'm probably the biggest Dr. Dre fan alive. But lately I've not been feelin' Dre. I think hhis beats post-Chronic 2 are all monotonous, drab,  and they all sound the same! Gone are the layered, textured, sonic landscapes that Dre laced us with from Straigh Outta, Efil4Zaggin, Chronic, MUrder Was tHE Case SOundtrack, and his old stuff. His beats for Eminem's Encore, 50's MAssacre & Get Rich, THe GAme's Documentary don;t hold a stick to his old classics (excpet maybe for a select few). With all the new jacks coming up with real good stuff, and on a consistent basis (quality and quantity) i.e. Kanye, Neptunes, etc, shouldn;t Dre be coming up with stuff that raises the game? Where's the next level that Xzibit said that only DRe can bring us to? To think these producers were probably influenced by him! These cats are serving us lefft and right with genre-defying, innovative beats. Which leads me to my another frsutration with DRe...his procrastination. In the N.W.A. DVD, a young Dre was bragging about the ease he can come up with a beat. Where is this now? All we have is his "perfectionism", taking years to come up with beats! It takes him 7 years to come up with albums. In less than , what, two years, Kanye already has 2 solid albums. "Helter Skelter", "Chairmen of the Boards", "Not These Niggas Again", "Break Up To MAke Up," and "Detox"...I think the only thing easy for Dre nowadays is coming up with album titles for projects that never get made.  Of course, Dre will say he has nothing to prove. But to this rap lover, who developed a respect for Rap's musicianship from listening to Dre, he might not have anything to prove, but he has a lot to make up for. So, my request from the people here at dubcnn...PLEASE CONVINCE ME THAT I'M WRONG...CONVINCE ME THAT DRE IS STILL RELEVANT!

To be honest with you, I havent heard ONE of his beats that doesnt appeal to me. Dude is a genius. I too was kinda dissapointed when I heard some of his newer beats, but they grew on me. I guess it just has to grow on you too. I too am awaiting Detox like everybody else. He just changes his style a lot, but keeps the core. Unlike producers like Scott Storch. Dont get me wrong Storch is VERY talented, but he's just too repetitive, something that DRE is not. Bottom Line is, I wouldnt hang my head down on DRE, he'll come out with Fire like he did with 2001!

He did switch up his style since he left the Row back in what 96. When he came  out with been there done that it was the begining, no longer g funk now he using more pianos and orchestras and stuff amd his beats are more on the downside then bumpin usualy  ( not all of course ).He still good tho. When i first heard 2001 even i was disapointed but Dre is Dre he's tops. I still wish they wuld of done NWA tho

dre should put out a 100% westcoast album with only westcoast beats and only westcoast artists...

why? he´s already done that on 2 albums and it´s not like owes anyone(artists or fans)on the west coast anything. if he just wanna put east coast artists on it then that´s on him. and i´d rather hear a banging album with east coast rappers on it then a wack album with west coast rappers on it(not sayin that WC rappers are wack).

Im jus afraid it will become more of a eastcoast album....specially since 50, g-unit, eminem and others might be on it

not saying theyre bad, i have almost all shady/aftermath releases and still listen to them but dre should keep it west coast
