here it is:

Eighteen year-old Woody from Brooklyn lost his mother to cancer a couple of months before this warm night, one that finds him standing angrily on an apartment building's stoop. Woody's huge, uncontrollable Rottweiler nearly chewed the hell out of a passerby's leg. When confronted with the likelihood that the victim would press charges, he shrugs. "F*** him, he should've crossed the street." Woody has no love for anyone he doesn't know personally. Now that his moms is gone, he says, no one else on earth is willing to love him -- that is, except for his dog he's entrusted to protect him.

The video to DMX' "Falling" shows a similar relationship between a young man and his dog. Throughout the video, people fail him but his dog remains by his side. A mirror-image of the relationship between Earl "DMX" Simmons and his dog "Boomer," Woody has teamed up with his canine friend to play hard against the bad hand life has dealt him.

You'd think that this was some misguided kid under the influence of the ever-menacing trance of "gangsta-rap." But Woody is far from a fan who's unable to separate fact from fiction. Instead, Woody is one of the many young and frustrated that finds the Yonkers, NY-based rebel DMX as a gravelly voice of reason in an unreasonable world.

When X dropped "Get At Me Dog" in February 1998, he was hailed as the street's king of thugs. While the charts remained flooded with glossy hits from Puff Daddy and assorted cheap knock-offs, many rap fans became alienated, thirsting for hip-hop's once-raw, untainted honesty. Tupac was dead, and so was what the streets called "the realness." Thug-hop was on the horizon, but still unnoticed by the masses. That was until the Dark Man X slammed his uncompromising attitude on the table. "What must I go through to show you sh** is real/And I ain't really never gave a f*** how niggaz feel."

The streets embraced D immediately. In clubs like New York's The Tunnel, "Get At Me Dog" would cause near-riots and made ballers fear for their riches. "Ruff Ryders Anthem" came out three months later and it was more of the same. Emphatically, rap fans screamed his chorus: "Stop, drop/Shut 'em down, open up shop/Oh, no/That's how Ruff Ryders roll." DMX' chants of "What?!" after every line also helped in propelling him to sidewalk sainthood. When DMX's debut CD,  It's Dark and Hell Is Hot finally hit stores it flew off the selves, selling a whopping 2 million copies. The Dark Man became such a phenomenon that his label Def Jam released Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood the same year. Both albums charted on Billboard, making DMX the first rap artist to chart two albums in one year.

Along with DMX' fame came harsh criticism and a few legal skirmishes. Rap purists felt that wasn't lyrical enough to garner the respect he was getting. Moral safeguards cited his abrasive content as vulgar and too violent. The album cover for Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood showed DMX in a bathtub drenched in blood, so it became the target of anti-rap interest groups. In enthusiasts' eyes, though, it was worth platinum three times over.

In June of '98, DMX was arrested for rape and sodomy of a 29-year-old woman. Two months later the case was dismissed after DNA tests proved that DMX was innocent. The following May, X was charged with a stabbing in Denver, and those charges were later dropped. He was accosted by animal rights activists for showing chained dogs barking at each other in his video for "What's My Name," claiming the clip promoted illegal dog fighting. Weed possession and driving without a license was the cases New York gave him when he was arrested in March of '00. All the while his album ...And Then There Was X was selling over 3 million copies and shooting straight to Billboard?s number one spot. The people had spoken, flatly declaring that it takes more than a few felony charges to break their loyalty.

Along with the 'hood props, DMX snatched up the love of the mainstream market with his film roles. Bitten by the acting bug, X made his film debut in Hype Williams 1998 slumper Belly, alongside Nas and T-Boz of TLC. Belly as a movie was torn apart by critics, but DMX' acting ability turned enough heads to get him a role as a computer genius in Exit Wounds early this year opposite Steven Segal. He's also scored the starring role in Lazarus, the upcoming sequel to "The Crow."

After some time off, DMX has returned with his latest album, The Great Depression. Surrounded by imagery of 1960?s turmoil, his video to "Who We Be" might be a tad much for his newer followers to swallow. On the song, X rhymes about all the drama of surviving in and out of poverty. With all the patriotism abounding in the United States, issues like civil rights and racial injustice seem trivial to the masses. Nonetheless, DMX is who - and what -- Woody from Brooklyn latched onto. Love him or hate him, DMX is a voice of a generation. Not only a generation of hip-hop hungry consumers, but a generation of struggling youth who simply want to survive.

I still love his debut album and play it constantly. His other albums don't get any replay. I haven't bought his new one yet though.

DMX is the type of rapper that gets a cult following, and that is why he sells so many records.
I respect him sales wise, and i love a couple joints like Slippin and Ruff Ryders Anthem, but he bores me cuz of his gimmicky voice and shit.
