Future of aftermath - thread #4 - RAKIM
« on: October 31, 2001, 08:32:02 AM »
This thread is to give you the latest and my last update on why Rakim's album hasn't come out, why its taking so long and the future of this project. A few weeks ago I briefly mentioned Rakim. however, i need to make my point clear. i said there was a “small” chance that Oh My God would not come out. a few of you panicked and flipped the script on what i said. The only reason this project won't come out is if Rakim decideds he doesn't want to rap anymore. and that is definetly a possibility. however, we want ra to go out and cement himself as the greatest of all time and to do that he needs to get with Dre and drop this bomb on anybody who don't believe. ra's last album was okay but not what he needs to go out the right way. Dre wants to do this album as much as anything he has ever done. he will exhaust every possibility for it to happen. right now its pointness to publicly talk much about this album. at some point Dre would have to move on, but i don’t think that time would come for quite a while. at this point Rakim needs to step to the plate. rakim spent a lot of time in New York, when we thought he was working with premo to get half of the album done. however, premo is still sitting there with special tracks he prepared just for Rakim waiting for Ra to lay down vocals. we want Ra to do whatever he needs to do to prepare himself for the album. in fairness to Ra dre has been busy so it would have been hard to get a lot of work done anyway. if any outside producers are brought in besides dre, mel-man and premo they will have to be a certain type of producer that match up with Ra's talents and those producers would have to have enormous talent.  but right now is still planned for dre/mel and premo to do most if not all of the production. we will wait for rakim to figure out how he wants to approach the album and what he wants to talk about. Rakim is the greatest pure mc to ever live so he deserves that right to take as much time as he needs. before you get all over me for calling Rakim the greatest pure mc of all time let me clarify. As a total artist i consider Tupac the most complete package ever to grace hip-hop. he had the ability to touch peoples lives, the
contradictions, the mc skills, the storytelling abilities, the emotions, the poetry skills, the charism, the looks, the
life, and the heart. but when it comes to the definition of mc Rakim is the greatest of all time. the voice, the vocabulary, the delivery, the intelligence, the rhyming skills, the passion, and the lyrics make him the best ever.  therefore we will never pressure rakim into doing things he doesn’t want to do.  In most cases Dre will rearrange his schedule when rakim
is ready. some work has been done, but their is still a lot of work to be done. the duo of dre and rakim haven’t even
really begun to tap into their unlimited potential. When Rakim and Dre finally get together and focus for an extended period of time watch out. I have no doubts that when it happens it will be a legendary duo, creating legendary tracks, for a legendary album. the best rap producer of all time (sorry but there is NONE better) and the greatest pure mc of all time coming together is a dream collaberation and the project of a lifetime. i hope that we get a chance to get it done. but be patient because to make this a classic dre and Rakim will have to take their time to build the ultimate bomb. and the only way for that to happen is to get dre and ra together.but now its time to quit talking about this and put up or shut up. when its time to get this album finished every ounce of energy, sweat and tears will be spent to make this the classic it needs to be. it is a possibilty that DETOX would be released before OH MY GOD. so keep patient and keep the faith. I know this wasn't much new next
up.............DETOX

Wow, "Detox" before, "Oh My God"?  I thought "Detox" seemed like 2 years away seeing "Dr. Dre 2001" took that long.  About how many songs have been recrded for this album?  Thanks again,  ;)

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Mellowman - This is how I feel -
You said there is a chance "Oh My God" may be released after "Detox."  I think Dre should end his 'rappin' career with "Detox"...since it will conclude his solo career and signal Dre taking more of a "back seat" approach in the music industry.  "Oh My God" should come before it.

for real, imma say detox dont come out till 2003 anyways, i gotta feelin we'll have heard eminem and obviosly truth hurts, hopfully rakim and hittman and obviously knoc'turnals ablums by then, so we got enough shit to look forward before that hopefully, plus michael jacksons which is tight in my opinion. i just hope rakim and hittman come out before detox cuz i think eminem will have been out way befor then anyways. probably summer 2002 for em. so this would mean dre can rap on all his homies album before hi finishes in style on detox, u get me?

peace

the reason i said detox might come out before oh my god was because of the uncertainty regarding rakim. however, it is dres plan to release oh my god before detox. and if things work out oh my god will be released next year. as far as a dre produced rakim track on nas new album i would doubt it. i know it was discussed. nas would have to pay out some MAJOR cheese for dre to allow it. so its possible but to my knowledge i dont think it will appear. to close, when OH MY GOD is released dre and rakim will produce a sonic and lyrical classic that will be hard for any duo to ever top. if rakim mc's with the fire, the aggression and the power he has on the exisiting dre tracks it will cement rakim as the greatest MC ever. and dre will match rakims intensity with apocolyptic funk.
dre promised rakim he would rakim's career with a bang. and when you hear it you will shout OH MY GOD!!!!!!
