I'd say George Clinton, Zapp, Bootsy, etc. They laid down the foundation and most of Hutch, Dre and Warren's early "G-Funk" work contained samples from at least one of these artists.

Or it might have just been the bloods, who knows.

George Clinton, Bootsy and Zapp just make P-Funk. But G-Funk is more than only a P-Funk Sample. G-Funk is also influenced by Jazz. It has got this smooth shit  8) 8)

Quote from: Soopafly DPGC about his hands
I don't live for the man, but I do study him so I can hope my pimp hands one day become as strong as his. When i first started listening to him, my hands were only strong enough to crush a beetle.  Now that i've studied him for 15 years, my hands are strong enough to crush a dog.

I understand that it might be influenced by jazz, but actual sounds from P-funk were wat was being used. The P-Funk sound was the heaviest influence on "G" funk, even by name.

Rap has used what you could identify as a g funk sound since forever. However no one really saw the concept, identified and explored the concept until ATL/N.W.A who were the same camp working with the same producers Yella/Dre/Hutch/their musicians in the late 80's and early 90's. Dre and the DPG(213, Tha Dogg pound) were the first to use the term on the regular in 92-94 and from there it belonged to all.

some say it was atl/n.w.a

some say it wasn't till livin like hustlers/efil4zaggi/miles n runnin.

some say it wasn't till early death row/regulate

every single one of those versions involve dre:

verdict: dr.dre

So youre saying that the actual rap producers had more to do with creating the sound than Zapp, Clinton, P-Funk, etc.?

I think sum tracks on Cube's "Death Certificate" album sound G-Funkish too. He was rappin over "Atomic Dog" and "Flash Light" sampled tracks and shit. DJ Pooh produced it, right?

well yeah, cause that shit is P funk. G funk is taking p funk, tightening up the instrumentation, looping the best catchiest part of a funk song, adding smooth gangster shit to it. no doubt g funk is built on a foundation of p funk but george clinton did not create g funk. he created p funk.

i see what you're saying, but saying clinton invented g funk is like saying the dude that invented the blues invented rock and roll..it's like yeah, rock n roll certainly owes the blues the debt but that doesn't make the creator the same.

hah, yousa cool cat, we're debating in like 3 threads simultaneously.
