But back to warren...What more can we say?..Perhaps..he don't want the spot light-just doing what he loves best-Music, hanging with his friends (Snoop, Nate Dogg)..and getting paid..is good enuff for him...
If that makes him humble..i can't complain, but rather commend him for it!

But That Annie Mae track is smooth..i love the bass line on that Track!!

I love all of Warren's albums except his last one.  I feel that album was a major step backward for him.  Also, I feel that "Return Of The Regulator" is his second best album behind "Regulate," there's no filler on that one at all, and its funky as hell.  "I Want It All" has more standout tracks, but there's a few wack ones on there (namely the one with Crucial Conflict and Drag-On.)  And Twinz "Conversation," that's one of my favorite albums ever.  He's definitely done a lot in his career, and he'll always be known as one of the best producers on the West Coast.

Regulate IS an overrated album. There are some incredible songs on there for sure, but a lot of it is filler. It just happened to have two really good singles and immaculate timing. The main problem with Warren G's career is that he is good, but not great.

IMO Warren G shouldve stuck with that smooth g-funk sound he became accustomed to and built a label out of the artists around him (ie Twinz, Mista Grimm etc)

on too many of his tracks on his albums, he tries something different and it rarely comes off.
some artists need to realise that when theyre onto something good, and it suits their style/flow etc, they need to stick to it. on his albums he has maybe 4-5 decent tracks, and the rest is garbage. (Regulate excluded, but Return of the Regulator definately included)

but when he wants to produce a smooth g-funk groove, not many can do it better. his last album was a good example - it was a big letdown. instead of coming out with some 2006 futuristic g-funk, he came up with some lame ass beats

so instead of possibly becoming the king of g-funk, hes just another artist

The one thing about Warren G records is that I don't fully appreciate them until 2 years later (apart form Regulate).

I didn't like In The Mid-Nite Hour at all when it dropped, but I've started listening to it again recently it's a solid album with some crisp production. Bishop rips some of those beats.

True. I think many people sleept on I want it all. I didn't feel in the midnight our, the new style wasn't fitting him....As a producer, I don't know why people don't use him more often, I mean ok the G-funk thing is kinda played out but he can produce tight beats that aren't your regular G-funk shit, like that Kurupt song "that's it" or others as well...

I always thought the reason Warren kinda disappeared as far as mainstream exposure after that first album was down to him.

Whenever I saw interviews with him ('The Show', for example) I never got the impression he pushed himself to be a star. In fact he used to say in interviews that he didn't want the spotlight.

In the beginning, Warren G was pushed by Lyor Cohen (Def Jam Recordings) to start rapping. Then he left Def Jam; maybe he lost at the same time his motivation to outshine as a big star...
