As a few of you may be aware, I am the Music Editor of DubCNN.com, where I'm primarily responsible for the current Reviews section. However, as I am also a freelance journalist, I contribute to other outlets now and then. XXL recently afforded me the great opportunity to talk to an emotional and candid Quik about his late comrade Mausberg. I urge all DubCC readers to check this feature out - Quik is incredibly open and provides a lot of insight on his time with Maus. Link:

I'd love to hear readers feedback on this article. I hope it is considered a fitting tribute to a real rising star.

R.I.P. Johnny 'Mausberg' Burns (1979-2000)

(PS: As any writer will tell you, once in a while your work gets edited. As a result, one of XXLMag.com's editors inserted the line, "the day before his (Mausberg's) album was to be released," in relation to his passing. I'm sure this is false, and am working on getting it fixed.)
"Shit ain't all peaches and cream, and I ain't Sara Lee, bitch!" - Lloyd Banks

"I'm Morpheus in this Hip-Hop Matrix, exposing fake shit." - Common

"With consecutive platinum hits, I up my status. Ain't no more Calvin Broadus!" - Snoop

"Look at all these conscious rappers - guess who influenced them?" - KRS One

Dang, thats pretty dope and deep interview!!
Damn Shame how messed up and parasitic the music industry Execs can be!!

But one question, Quik is complaing, how Stan Sheppard didn't give Mausberg his money..
How come He didn't give Mausberg some cash as a loan to move out the hood??-Just my thought, not blaming nobody..
Pretty messed up!!!

RIP Mausberg

Conan Milne :Mausberg’s album, Non Fiction, was released posthumously in 2000 on Sheppard Lane Records. Were you happy with the final product?
Dj Quik:Oh, no, not at all! I wasn’t satisfied with the mastering. I spent a lot of money personally; maybe 40 grand in the studio [to] produce it right.

^^
Whoa thats a lot of money to spend ina studio  :o, shame it didn't gt to see the light of day!!!
Damn!!! :'(

Excellent interview... Quik is an emotional dude, and he shows his true feelings most of the time he is interviewed... every time Mausy (RIP) is mentioned, it seems to strike a nerve in Quik, and rightfully so.

I think the most unfortunate thing is that we have heard all of the tracks we will ever hear by Mausberg.  Quik has stated that his unreleased material will be permanently kept in the vault.

There's not much more that can be said... i hate to pander to that "what if" type mentality.

RIP Johnny Burns

peace

Great job Conan!  That must have been a very emotional interview to do.  I really liked it a lot.

It's such a shame that young men and women fall victim to such nonsense.

Why cant we love each other (and ourselves, cuz if we really knew how to *love* who we are we wouldnt need to hurt other people).
