Interview With Lulu of B.Y.I. Entertainment - September 19, 2007 By : Eddie

Dubcnn is back with two hot new exclusive interviews for you today!

We recently caught up with the CEO of B.Y.I. Entertainment, Lulu, for an exclusive feature about the music industry. As owner of the label that is home to Omar Cruz and producer Rome, Lulu made headlines earlier this year by signing a 50/50 joint venture deal with Geffen & Interscope Records for Omar Cruz’s upcoming debut album “The Sign Of The Cruz.” In this interview, Lulu tells us about how he first formed his company, his motivation behind doing so, and the steps he took to make it happen.

He lets us in on many secrets about major label tactics, and also gives detailed advice to young artists on how to get the attention of record companies. If you are interested in the music industry at all, this article is a must-read. Check it out below.

you’re gonna let your mom listen to it, and your mom’s like “Yo, I know where they got that from!”

That is so true. I was bumpin' some Omar a while back and moms would recognize a lot of the samples.

Now that was a real nice read. Very insightful, credible information coming from someone who obviously knows what's up with today's music industry. I hope that a lot of artists will read it, because there definitely are some words of wisdom to be found in that interview. Like that part where he talks about unknown artists charging people for their mixtapes? Lol, that is so true. I'll NEVER buy a mixtape from someone I don't even know of.

Props for doing this interview Eddie. It was something different. Hip-Hop business 101 8)

LuLu seems to be a smart businessman. Eloquent, knows how to get his point across and it's obvious that he's put some thought into putting together the B.Y.I. label. The man has a vision. Gotta respect that, period.

Agree with you homie but it's ashame that people dont ever read these type of interviews. They only read these interviews in till people become real big then that's when people will read the interviews but this is defently a good interview & great info on the music bizness.

Just got word back from someone over at B.Y.I.: The Sign Of The Cruz is scheduled to drop in January/February '08, which is a good thing to me. That way, the folks at Interscope/Geffen can take their time with it to promote it properly, and by then the hype surrounding Kanye/50 will have died out a bit, which can only benefit Omar's sales.
