paid tha cost to be tha boss
« on: March 10, 2008, 03:23:05 PM »
paid tha cost to be tha boss was realy high rated by the critics, and i dont get it there was many fillers . maby becouse it was more eastcoast than westcoast, but i still dont get it. If you ask a hardcore snoop fan, it was one of his worst albums. Think it even got more overall better critics by newspapers , but i still dont get it . a bullshit album ::)

To keep it 100, "Paid Tha Cost..." is my favourite Snoop album behind "Doggystyle". I bumped this shit for half a year back in 2002 and it still has some spins from time to time. Only track I really don't like is the one with Ludacris and Goldie Loc "You Got What I Want".
"The One And Only" is just awsome, he murders this Premier beat like a serial killer. Or "Wasn't Your Fault" damn this tracks has such a nice synth and a cool story to it. The bass is funky as hell.
I think many people don't give albums chances. They bump shit, say it's wack and then only write negative shit about it. This album was one of my first rap records I listened to, at first I was like "damn? this is Snoop Dogg the gangster rapper?" But today it's near classic to me.
Now you can hate on me  ;D

it's not great as far as an album but appearances by Redman, Fred Wreck, Hi-Tek, DJ Premier, Battlecat, E-Swift make for some good songs

I pretty much like this album top to bottom. Snoop always seems at his best when he's pissed off about something (i.e. Suge Knight). I'm with ya about that What I want track. I think alot of the west coast producers try to emulate that stuttery Parliament-Funkadelic sound, but I've never heard it done correctly with drum machines and synths. I always preferred those smooth productions. An example for Jelly Roll would be Party With A DPG from Top Dogg (smooth) and On the Boulevard from The Wash (stuttery). Another would be battlecat 24 mo hours from The Peace Disc or Ballin' from PTCTBTB (smooth) or Cali is Active (stuttery). The West Coast cats typically come correct on smooth beats, but not so much on stuttery beats (Kurupt anyone?).

Nice album. I Miss That Bitch was tight too, although unbelievable Snoop not smoking weed anymore. Batman & Robin is still dope to me. E-White wrote Snoop some nice rhymes on The One & Only.
