I think most of the recording for the album took place after 2pac died.  I think Snoop was having a really hard time coming up with material for the album.  Then finally, he got in the studio with DJ Pooh and banged out a series of tracks that he was pleased with.  I think the album was probably completed late September or early October, and then rushed out in mid November.

Also, I was watching Snoop's storytellers, and Snoop was crediting Pac for teaching him how to bang out songs more quickly.  He said before he got to know Pac, that he used to just focus on one song at a time.  But now if you notice, Snoop was the number 1 rapper in the world before he met Pac, and ever since he's been dope, but he hasn't been the best.  I think early in his carear he was learning from Dre and taking his time and putting out a high quality with every record.  After Pac he started rushing his work and the quality deteriorated.

Shame they didn't put out "Street Life" on there - that record is THE SHIT 8)!

Is that shitty quality version still the only version that has been leaked ?

You mean the radio rip right? Nah, since then it has been a couple of versions available in nice quality and Phonkey Dee made a pretty good remaster on one of his 2Pac tapes...

got a link ?  8)

because they stopped getting along right around that time.
Yes, but there was still material out there and collaborations were still coming out on other projects like the "Gridlock'd" soundtrack. The public really didn't even know there was an issue because Suge knew it would be bad for business. If you look at the interviews he did after Pac died when Snoop was still with the label and then compare them with when Snoop jumped to No Limit and started working with Dre again, Suge is telling a much different side of the story. I think if Suge wanted there to be Pac songs on Doggfather, beef or not, there would have been some on there.

Hmm...interesting outlook. You're probably right.

IMO DR never released shit that had poor production or raps but in Doggfather he let Snoop's flow fall off
I don't think Suge gave a fuck about Snoops flow as long as the cash kept flowing.  When Dre left, Snoop didn't have a mentor to tell him what to do and what about The D.O.C, was he still on Death Row when Dre left? These 3 were tight packet in the studio, at least so I have understood it.

I remember Snoop saying something like Dre made him do his verses many times over on TBCT.

yeh i see what you are sayin but i dont think someone needs dre (or someone) that if you have pac on your album it will sell more.

threadstarter: this is what i wondered about since doggystyle dropped.

I heard that after pac died, Snoop went up and seen Afeni Shakur, and he was upset, 'cause they had tension at that time, but Afeni was like, no, he loved you. Just like family, have a little beef, but deep down he liked Snoop.

Whats the track where Pac goes 'Snoop the mf Doggfather'?

But all in all I respect the fact that Snoop has made a decision not to put out old pac collabos....thats why I hate when other people remix his tracks....especially people who he really didn't like for E.G. Thug Mansion with Nas etc. Or that Elton John track.

Snoop said the only way he would put out old material is if Afeni gave the stamp of approval and wanted him to release it.

Or if the new owners of Death Row release it because they dont need Snoop's permission  ;D  (I don't know if that's the case though, they definitely gotta clear it through Amaru)

I think Snoop wants to show respect for Pac also then by not droppin any of their music they may have done cause the haters would then be like Snoop making money of Pac when they was beefin a lil before he died etc....on that note also i think Snoop also doesnt want to be like Suge by cashin in on Pac and IMO Snoop took alot a business game from Master P more than Suge..........

By the way.  There's another factor in all this, I don't think Snoop was the type to be like, "ohhh please, I need 2pac on one of the songs for my album".  Because Snoop does have a little bit of an ego, and there was some competition there.  And at the time Snoop was still arguably one of the top or THE top rapper in the world so I think he wanted to put out his own shit and show he could do it without Dre and that he didn't need a track with Pac either.

...then the album didn't come out as hott as his earlier work, and a few years later he wised up some and finally hooked up with Dre for the Top Dogg album and started to find himself again.
