which team would win?
« on: December 21, 2009, 07:47:00 PM »
I was having this discussion with some guys at work and we gave opinions about two teams containing the best from the past and the best from like the last 10 years. This is what we came up with:

magic
jordan
bird
hakeem
kareem

cp3
kobe
lebron
duncan
shaq

I know some players are debatable being there of course but which team do you think would win?Imo the past takes this with no discussion,I mean I only think that hakeem over duncan can be argued because the past got the best players at the other four positions, even if it's not by a big margin of course though. Some real legends on both teams.

So you are going to take everyone at their peak, gotta go with the 80's.  Add in a bench of McHale, Rodman, Barkley and Stockton vs McGrady, Dwight Howard, Melo, Wade to make it interesting.

magic would do alot of damage here. especially over the smaller chris paul so thats why i will choose the past team.

Larry's outside shot over Lebron all day. Throw in Magic and Larry making those perfect passes Hakeem and Jabar on the inside. Jabar's sky hook over Shaq more than Shaq's power post up over Jabar. But I'm bias. I just think both Magic and Larry on the same team would be too smart for the new guys.

the team of today's players.

as long as you have current NBA refs doing these games, Chris Paul is going to be shitting on Magic Johnson with crossover (carry) after crossover, LeBron would be pulling shit that none of them can guard, same for Kobe.

Shaq & Timmy in his prime would beast both Kareem & Hakeem.

the game has changed in the last 30 years & if you play by todays rules, that team would win by 25.

What new rules specifically would hurt the old timers?

Really ?  What do you know?  You weren't even a cum shot in your dads sack when most of those "old timers" played.  Hell you didn't even know Javier Vasquez pitched for the Yanks a couple of seasons ago you testicular cancer lump.

I would do that but it'll create alot of discussion about who should be there,I can't make up my mind about it,too great players deserve to be there.

great points.and yeah larry was fuckin sick along with magic 2 of the smartest players ever.

doubt it,even with the shit that todays refs let slide, paul wasn't going to shit on magic and kobe and lebron could be guarded to a certain point of course.and shaq and timmy in their prime would never beast kareem and hakeem on both defense and offense imo,but that would indeed be great matchups

What new rules specifically would hurt the old timers?

the fact you can carry & travel whenever you want  the refs let it slide.

you couldn't do that back when Team A played; plus Team B is far more athletic.

the team of today's players.

lol what a strange guy lmfao.

& LMFAO, yes i did know Vasquez was on the Yanks a few years ago; it's why i wasn't happy about it lol.

he can pitch against the scrub Mets & the rest of the NL East; but face Boston, a scrappy Rays team & the Angels & those other, stronger, better AL lineups & pitching in the easiest park to hit or give up a homerun, i'd be shocked if he put up the same numbers.

So in that case if they played with 80s rules the new guys would get called all day for carrying. Lebron is definitely more "athletic" than Bird, but so were a lot of players Larry shut down over the years. We're talking about a guy that would constantly grab boards over Rodman, and steal balls from the top ball handlers. Larry's greatest strength was his intelligence, then his effort, then his skill. I'm not saying that means he'd shut down Lebron, but I think he'd do better playing D against him than Lebron would against Larry. Magic is simply out of Paul's league. Jordan can play with Kobe and you know whose side the refs will be on. The only question is how well Kareem can guard Shaq. But Larry will be playing inside D a lot and the one thing about Larry most people never talk about is his tongue. He can get inside players heads and really piss them off. It sounds silly but that will be a factor in this game. Every time Shaq is posting on Kareem and Larry takes the ball from the other side Shaq is gonna hear it and after a while he's going to blow up. I don't see Shaq finishing the game because of fouls.

Duncan over Barkley or Hakeem would be the best bet to win this game but he's got little ego and every one else has too much, so Duncan simply won't get the ball. The new team will self destruct because of that. I don't think there's enough respect for each other on the new team, while the old team has all the respect in the world for each other, and except for Jordan maybe, won't be trying to hog the ball.

yeah, that's why i said "if they played with today's refs today's players would win".

there is nobody even close to the athletic build of LeBron James that Larry Bird guarded back then lol.

pointless argument that will never have an answer.

I'm sure there was, but they weren't at the skill level of James and have faded into extinction. This was the 80s and steroids galore must have beefed up a whole bunch of small forwards.

And for the record I'm no more involved in this "pointless argument" than you are.
