snoop - NL top dogg review

1. Dolomite intro 3/5
Nice intro to the album. It's not too long, but like so many intro's it's nothing special.

2. Buck'em 4.75/5
The first track Prod. by Dr. Dre since snoop 'n' dre reunited, so it had to be good. I love the bass    line, it's crazy, plus the hard drum beat. Snoop comes in with mellow vocals, and I thought he will be like on the doggfather album, but this time the vocals and production complimented each other, sort of like bitches ain't shit. I'm really feelin' the flow & lyrics on this one, plus sticky fingers makes a dope contribution on the hook, but the only problem is that it's a bit short at under 2.45 min, but then again the g-funk intro on doggystyle was pretty short.

3. Trust me 2/5
I'm sort of dissapointed with this, considering Bud'da is behind the boards because I usaully like his work. This is for the ladies, nice smoth beat, but the hook could be a little better. This is the first    time I've heard of suga free, & sylk e fine, who both put in good performances. Snoop does his job well, but this track could have been left off snoop's album, perhaps saved it for sylk e fine's album.

4. My heat goes boom 4.5/5
One of my favourite snoop tracks ever. Snoop has a good steady, & consistent flow, and the beat by meech is also very good (better than still a g thang imo). The beat kind of reminds me of dre's keep their heads ringin', but not as good. People may find the hook annoying (similar to the out the moon from the gridlock'd ost), but I really like it, and I wish that the beat was just a little harder, with less bounce, but other than that, it's hot.

5. Dolomite 1.5/5
Another dolomite skit, which you will only listen to once or twice. Although it's about 50 sec's it's too long to listen to, and you will just wanna push the skip button. Should have left it off.

6. Snoopfella 3.75/5
Like every snoop album, he has to give props to an old skool joint, and snoop covers cinderfella. This is like the equivelent of lodi dodi on doggystyle, with snoop in story-telling mode. Snoop is dope again, but what lets this track down is the hook, which is a little annoying (should have left the hook out), and the sample which ant banks uses is played out, but the beat still bangs.

7. In love with a thug 4/5
Some people said that they don't like this track, perhaps because of the hook, but this is also one of my favourite snoop tracks. Again snoop is in story telling mode, and it reminds me of bitches ain't shit for some reason, I don't know why. I can understand why people don't like the hook, but I love it, and end up singing to it. I really love the beat which s produced by meech. This has a harder drum beat, with cool hypnotic samples. Overall another dope track.

8. G bedtime stories 3.75/5
Again snoop is telling a story. The beat prod. by meech, is again very good, but it reminds me of a doggz day afternoon on the dogg pound album. Anyway, it has good samples and piano keys. Snoop has a very good flow, with good lyrics, but what lets him down on this track is the intro to    the song, which is a bit corny, and his vocals which aren't aggresive enough for the type of track, but I can see why his vocals are like that, because he sounds like he is reading a story.

9. Down 4 my niggaz 2.75.5
The first no limit cut on the album. C-murder & magic ain't too bad on this, they do there jobs, the same with snoop, but the hook makes the track lose major points, it's a typical no limit hook, repetitive, and just plain annoying. However, the main highlight of the track is the beat. DJ KLC, hooks up a repetitive beat, but it 's hard.

10. Betta days 4/5
Snoop rips it on this one, but not in an aggressive way. Lyrics are very good, with a dope flow, where snoop is reminiscing about the past. Nice beat again by meech, with a nice bass line and good drum beat. But the beat although it's good, it isn't one of meech's best, because it sounds bare, it could need some more samples, and the mixing could be tweeked, but the this doesn't bring the track down by much.

11. Somethin bout ya bidness 1/5
I really hate this song. It's one of those r&b type tracks. It's unneccessarily too long, and snoop just doesn't do anything for me on this. I like Raphael Saadiq, and does a good job. The beat is below average for a snoop track, but I do like the samples used, but still can't save it.

12. Bitch Please 4/5
The second dre produced track. The beat is straight off the hook, with a deep and dark vibe, with funky synths. Xzibit, introduces himself to the mainstream with an incredible verse, and snoop drops a tight intro for his verse. Snoop sort of messes the beginning of his verse, because he goes from an energetic intro, to a slower, more mellow vibe, but it doesn't do bad of a job. Snoop then gradually improves with each line and ends up finishing pretty dope, then nate caps it off with another tight contribution. One of the biggest snoop tracks in recent years.

13. Doin' too much 4/5
Dope party track, but not the type for the clubs. Sort of reminds me of something to play beside a swimming pool in the back garden. Quik laces a funky track, and snoop is tight, dropping dope lines about some funny situations. Snoop could have come off just a little bit harder, and the track could have been mixed a bit better, but still it's one of the most underrated tracks on the album.

14. Gangsta Ride 2.75/5
Another meech produced  track, which is a bit disappointing because of the repetitive sample can get annoying. Silkk the shocker actually drops nice raps, but snoop steels it on this with his part.    However, the hook is annoying, especially after repeating it over & over again at the end. It could have been shorter, which would have gained a better rating.

15. Ghetto Symphony 2.75/5
This is an average, but nice no limit cut, which has the potential to be very dope. The beat is simple, with the piano loop which is sampled. Whenever I listen to this I can't help wondering what it will be like over the Xxplosive drum beat from dre's 2001. Mia X comes off dope (she very underrated imo), fiend also comes off dope, c-murder is just c-muder- nothing brilliant but doesn't do too bad, but Silkk the shocker completely ruins this with a messy verse, and should have been left off, the same with mystikal's. Goldie Loc comes off tight, and snoop also drops dope lines but unfortunately doesn't sound aggressive enough, and snoop's part introducing each rapper is a bit weak. A shame really, because it's actually pretty good in most parts.

16. Party With A DPG 4.25/5
The first & last Jelly Roll production on the album, which is dope, with a dope bass line, drum beat, & cool samples, but I don't like the Battlecat-type trumpet sounds. Snoop is excellent on this, and I can't really fault him on this. He doesn't really say much, just the usual MC raps about himself in the game. The hook is also good, but the track is just a bit too long, so loses marks.

17. Buss'n Rocks 2.5/5
I am really disappointed with this, mainly due to DJ Quiks production. Basically it's just a remake of snoops hitt roccs from the underground album. The lyrics are almost identical, and snoops verses are good, but the hook isn't brilliant, and snoop in the background vocals ruin it a bit.
Quik, could have come up with a better beat to this, it's the typical Quik drum beat, which is nice, but overused, but is the samples he uses which ruins it for me. If only he had used smother sounds like on top dogg's I don't love 'em (off suge knights chronic 2001).

18. Just Dippin' 3.75/5
The 3rd & last Dre produced track on the album & dre also raps on it. I am kind of disappointed with this, it's good, but could have been better by just changing little things. The lyrics are overall very good, but Snoop sounds like he recorded the vocals in the early hours of the morning, and lacks just that little punch, and Dre just sounds like whoever writes his lyrics at the time (in this case Hittman), which isn't bad, it's heavy, but just takes time to get used too. The hook is very good though. The beat is similar to dre's fuck you, with a good bass line & good guitar sounds, but lacks a few samples, to hum or whistle to, but it still bangs. Jewell also makes an appearence at the end which is excellent.

19.   Don't tell 4/5
The 3rd Dj Quik track, which is probably the best out of his three produced. It's got a real nice    mellow vibe to chill to, & will appeal to the ladies. It's about scandelous women, with dope guest    appearences from nate & warren g, & mauseburg. They all do their job, with a nice hook, but Nate    kills this track, with redoing a part from ain't no fun, excellent.

20.   20 minutes 4/5
Produced & features Goldie Loc, and the beat bangs, it's simple but has got a real raw vibe to it.    They basically represent their gang. Dope intro to the song from snoop, good flow & lyrics from    both snoop & goldie loc, & I love the ending to the song where snoop sings roll, roll, roll, the boat    gently down the stream but changes the lyrics to his own purpose.

21. I love my momma 2/5
As soon as I saw this on the back of the cd case, I knew it will be a cheesy track, and I wasn't wrong. It's not that snoop dedicates it to his mother which makes it bad, but the singing (I don't know who it is) makes it real corny. Snoops verse isn't that good, which is a real shame because the    beat is dope, with a g-funk vibe produced by meech wells. I would rather, have an instrumental instead & label it as I love my momma instead.  The beat definitely saves this track.

Overall this is a surprisingly good album, after snoop released da game, he has gone back to his roots. The only down points are:
1. It's too long, many tracks could have been left off, and some guest appearences.
2. The tracks sound like they've been slapped together with no thought (no order, and the tracks just fade out at the end, unlike the non-stop feel of doggystyle and his next album tha last meal).
3. Snoops vocals could have been more aggresive.

I love "Just Dippin'", that beat is one of Dre's best IMO.  The should of been the first single.  With a nice video it could of been big.

Just dippin was the shit...I think this album is a little overrated though because it was released just 9 months after the dissapointing Da Game album...Other than the Dre tracks and a few others like My Heat Goes Boom, where Snoop is in top form the rest of the album is lacking something...Snoop's delivery is off on alot of tracks and his flow is inconsistent...And I'ma huge Snoop fan...Still a good album...3.5/5...
Rainstorm the back of the bank, bustin loose like Muggsy
Typhoons, Kurupt Calhoun

"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Dope album, probably his 2nd best along with Last Meal.
