2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted Video vs Album versions
« on: March 17, 2010, 08:28:36 AM »
I've always wondered why the beat for the 2 of Amerikaz most wanted video version was slightly different than the album version

I'm not an expert at describing the different melody that is present in the video version but take a listen yourself.

Album Version

Video Version

The video version sounds much better in my opinion does anyone have any info as to why they are different?

Sometimes the producers go back and make slight tweaks to a second version (usually one with radio-friendly lyrics), which Daz seems to do and had done with this song and I Ain't Mad at Cha.  The main difference that I can think of off the top of my head (as my work computer doesn't have speakers) is the weird noise toward the end of the song, kind of "squeaky" I guess (as it's hard to describe).  Again, nothing significantly different.

The same thing applies to the video version of To Live & Die in L.A., as after Pac's last verse, the electric guitar is a lot more apparent, though it ends up being more audible in the later remastered versions of the retail album released years afterward, particularly the DualDisc release but also the import CD single.

yeah that makes sense, I guess their probably wasn't any real story behind the difference between the two.

I just remembered hearing that different melody in the video version one day and liking it then going back to the album version to find it wasn't there.

I suppose its not as bad as Death Row completely leaving the original version of California Love off All Eyez On Me

Album version is straight up Jazzy 8)

This ones got more going on but doesn't improve the track.

Has the video been released properly on DVD? Best quality?

That was a marketing strategy.  Pac would get the Remix for All Eyez on Me, and the OG was originally planned to appear on Dre's album, which obviously never happened due to his departure.  It would definitely have been a sales boost for Dre since there were people out there who still wanted that version of California Love, though the sales boost was felt by the How Do U Want It single, which Death Row put the OG on and fueled some extra sales.

It appeared on both the Best of 2Pac DVD and the Death Row Uncut VHS/DVD.  The two versions are more or less the same, with slight differences.  The version on Best of 2Pac has Pac in the intro saying "You a lying piece of shit" without edits, the intro fades as Big Syke and E.D.I. pull out their guns (but you don't see the guns), and the end where people surround the crashed cars is in slow motion before switching to the scene of Pac and Snoop walking and pointing at the camera (which was actually an alternate take for the video rather than the intended end).  The version on Death Row Uncut has the "lying piece of shit" line edited with the "shit" part blanked out (for whatever reason), Big Syke and E.D.I. are shown with guns pulled out, and the end is actually sped up to show more footage of the people actually pulling bodies (presumably dead cops) out of the police van and laying them on the curb.

This was a Pac thing when he did clean versions of songs.. and before his Death Row days too.

Why? Probably cause he could, they were done later after the original versions and likely wanted to switch it up.

Off the top of my head Pour Out A Little Liquor, How Long Will They Mourn Me, To Live and Die In LA, Ain't Mad At Cha.. etc..
