Value of a Dre Beat Still Huge?

There was once a time where if you had a Dre beat people would run to hear it and artists would a lot of times use it for the single.  I think with rap heading into the direction of techno/electronica a Dre beat has lost some value.  He will always hold weight in the industry, but artists are going to turn to David Guetta and Benny Bennassi for these types of beats and as the music is getting hotter and hotter more of the techno/house producers are going to jump in like the Swedish House Mafia and other huge house producers are taking over and giving competition to even the season veterans.  Producers like Swizz Beatz and Pharrell have managed to survive by altering their sound but the competition is only going to become more fierce when producers like Kanye, Cool and Dre, Scott Storch, Mannie Fresh, and Ryan Leslie are also trying to make their sound modernized.  With the current condition of the rap game heading techno/electronica/house, do you think the value of having a "Dre beat" on an album is still a big deal or do you think it's lost some luster?

The value of Dre beats is still high but only based on the work he has previously done. Because he has produced a solid catalogue of music, people will always wonder wihether he will equal or top what he has done before.

It still holds a great deal of value. Companies wouldn't be charging $500 for high-end headphones with his name on it if there wasn't a certain credibilty attached to his name and sound quality. It's not about whether he has a top 20 hit song on the radio. Major artists want to work with him to the degree where he can pick and choose whoever and name his own price. When you have that level of iconic status, it's not about artists necessarily wanting you to make a #1 hit radio single for them but just about them getting a chance to work with someone they view as a legend. Think about some of these stars who came up before Dre and what kind of price tags they still have.

Value is value. An entertainer's price tag is only as big as what the people paying him can make in terms of profit off his name. Interscope is paying Dre a fucking fortune. If they could get that with any young producer out there, they would drop him and grab the next guy for half of what they are paying him. The bottom line is dollars. If Interscope pays Dre $50 million, they're making anywhere from two to three times that off what he's doing for them. If they weren't, it's not a worthwhile investment. That's how capitalism works, kids. These label people aren't idiots. Look at Mariah Carrey when "Glitter" flopped. The label saw her value sinking to beneath what they had given her and they bought her contract out to get rid of her so they wouldn't lose more investing in projects that wouldn't turn a profit. They ended up taking a $25 million dollar bath to get her off the label.

Regardless how you feel about his current musical direction, Dre is one of, if not the, most valuable producers at Interscope right now.

Dre tried the techno route with Under Pressure, it didn't work out too well

He should stick to what he does best and I still think his beats have value if you look at his Relapse production and the couple of Recovery tracks that were dope

Yup I think that sounds about right.  Back in the day 10 years ago artists were paying 200 geez for a Dre beat because of hit value.  I just don't think he has that modern techno sound used to make hybrid rap music (see Will.I.Am).  What was the the last top 10 or even top 20 hit Dre produced?  Anyone ... ?
