You would definitely have to rank him up there as one of the top lyricists in hip-hop history!  But the fact that he doesn't write most of his own lyrics, people just think of him mostly as a great producer.  But imagine if he had actually written all those dope lyrics he spit during his career, people would have to consider him one of the greatest rappers ever along with being the greatest producer.

Dres lyrics have never been anything to get excited about, ghost written or not

I actually praise Dre for not writing the average lyrics he's rapped his entire career. it's nothing to be proud of lol.

Dre's best ghostwritten lyrics were in the NWA days

"Keep your heads ringin" not a good example, some of the corniest lyrics ever

I think his presence on the mic on his beats are what stands out the most.  It really didn't matter what was said.

indeed.

he would up there with the other great poets of our time . i mean, check these insightful , yet powerful lyrics :

Your chances of jackin me are slim, G
Cause I rock from summer til Santa comes down the chimney
Ho ho ho, and so, as I continue to flow
Cause yo, I'm just a fly negro

almost brings tears to your eyes. like these lines from natural born killaz  :

Tic Toc
Toc Tic Toc Tic
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube on some murderous shit

if dre would have written those lyrics, maaaan...heŽd be running for president. and tupac would be still alive.

This got me wondering.. what if he had died young at the peak of his popularity?

nothing mindblowing really about these two songs lyrically wise. and even if they were lyrical masterpieces, they would still be two drops in an ocean of averageness. if you're gloating about Dre's lyrics, i feel bad for you.

Word.

He carries them off because he has, or used to have, a cool voice, and it usually fit nicely on the track, like another instrument,
but it's not like he's packing in the rhymes or doing crazy flows, or really amazing content or anything, it's just solid rapping.

yes. heŽs a good producer, or at least was.  a good producer knows what kind of raps fit in his songs and work with his voice

you guys realize how dumb you sound?  Saying that Dre has wack lyrics, when he has, throughout his career, worked with the all-time greatest writers in hip-hop history.  His team of ghost writers boasts such names as Ice Cube, DOC, Eminem, and many more big names in hip-hop have collaborated and written lyrics for Dre.  He has a team of ghostwriters constantly at his disposal, picking and choosing only the cream of the crop of what they come up with for him.  And even after all that, he will only release it if is game-changing and trend-setting, and sets a standard for the whole industry to follow.

So that's Dre, and you all don't know shit if you think Dre's lyrics are wack when you have that kind of team behind you.
