Kendrick Lamar ain't gangster
« on: November 24, 2011, 09:56:00 PM »
He's a good lyricist but just ain't quite on that dogg pound, gangsta rap level that I grew up loving. Where's that west coast gangsta shit these days... seems like it's getting watered down to pop rap.

yeah and he didn't say that he is gangster, gangsta rap is played out, look where Dogg Pound are now. you can listen to good alternative rappers or to wack gangsters.

by the way, he was never caliming himself as being a gangster. to the contrary he actually said in some songs that the real gang bangers respect his way of thinking because he drops some real music. and I really gotta laugh when someone's telling stuff like "where's the gangsta rap at these days". imo 85% of all the new shit dropping is still gangsta rap or pretending to be, at least regarding the lyrics. So this thread is stupid. Kendrick never said he was gangsta. If you dont like him because of that, then go on and bump all the other shit from dpg to wc to mitchy slick or whoever.

Jay rock dropped a solid album. It's more in line with westcoast gangsta rap.

I highly doubt that there ever will be gangsta rap like we know it. It is done arleady (years ago actually). Its hard to think about tho, but its time to move on.

Don't really agree with this. Section 80 is the only thing I've heard from him tho.

He might not be into set tripping but Kendrick Lamar is more gangsta than most so-called gangsta rap.

Or at least closer to say early NWA stuff or whatever.

Dark themes, including crime, viewed from a young urban persons perspective. Based on realism and blurring the line between "good and evil".

LMAO @ he's not the gangster rap I know and love.

Welcome to 2011. Gangster rap is dead. G-funk is dead. Be thankful that there are still some individuals like Kendrick Lamar who understand that and are trying to do something different and not try to rehash a genre of music like gangsta rap that's been done to death over the last 25 years.

Kendrick Lamar never claimed to be a gangster. That shit played out years ago.
