I agree to an extent that some of his production could be better, but it definitely doesn't take much away from him for me. He's not cut from the same cloth as most rappers that came out of the West so it wouldn't make sense for him to look for production that emulates them.

soul and funk (I assume you're talking about the music genres) have nothing to do with flow. If anything his flow sounds like Kanye.

Question. What is a white dude doing even speaking on what it means to "sound black"? You give wiggers on the internet a bad name.

You know, now that I think about it some more it's mostly the beats that are lacking the soulful quality I wanting so bad. The Dogg Pound has it for example. Whatever you want to name that quality/sound. It's probably just that gangster rap quality I'm wanting so much that isn't there.

Secondly, in response to your little barbed comment, I can appreciate and critique music no matter what skin color I am. It's an honest opinion. I will continue to listen to him and other artists, but just wondering what other people thought.  Obviously a lot of people like him. I do too-- he brings a lot of positivity to the table. But he's (to me) not a new-age (modern version) of Snoop's Doggystyle or Dre's Chronic. I know these times have passed, but I'm still looking for that next amazing thing and I don't feel this is it.

But to each his own. His record sales and mass appeal will be the true judge of his success.
