Spice had tremendous success thanks to classic singles like "welcome to the ghetto" or "murder show" but a host of legendary artists haven't had the same fate commercially. A lot of artists, from East to West, had major record deals and never went gold or platinum : South Central Cartel (Def Jam), Richie Rich (Def Jam), King T (Capitol/MCA), Mac Mall (Relativity), The Twinz (Def Jam), Jayo Felony (Def Jam), Kam (East West / Atlantic), Souls of Mischief (Jive), the list goes on. a lot of westcoast artists were signed in the wake of the G-Funk Era but never got the promotion they truly deserved. Also, artists/entrepreneurs that had a huge buzz in the 90's locally and ended signing distribution deals never went gold or platinum either. Young Black Brotha Records signed with Atlantic Records, they flopped hard (hence Mac Dre's diss of Khayree on "macstabber").there was a bidding war to sign JT The Bigga Figga after his "playaz n the game" album which sold like 100k independently, and he ended up on Priority with his label Get Low, never went gold or platinum either and he went back to the independent game. only E-40 managed to get his gold and platinum plaque with the same type of deals, and it was only for his projects (the click & solo albums), for the rest of the roster (celly cel, b-legit, the funk mobb, lil bruce, playaz tryna strive, the mossie), they didn't promote it properly and artists often blamed both 40 & Jive.anyway thanks Mietek23, good interview and initiative. i'm glad Spice's favorite solo album is Amerikkkaz Nightmare lol, always been my favorite too lol.

Great interview. Spice 1 is def a legend and seems like a real down to earth dude. It's crazy to think guys like Spice were going platinum back in the day...hip hop has changed a lot since those days.
