Rare 1st Edition Doggystyle Album
« on: August 14, 2015, 02:31:02 AM »
Hey guys,

I used to post on this forum a lot back when it was first created and I remember at the time a lot of people talking about a Snoop Dogg song called "Gz Up Hoes Down" that was featured on Doggystyle's first release. At that time all current eidtions had removed the song from the album. Anyway about a year ago I just happened to walk into a used music store, which is weird since I don't buy music anymore in physical format. For giggles I went to see if they might have the "rare 1st edition" of Doggystyle and when I checked the back of the album I was shocked to see it listed "Gz Up, Hoes Down" as well as "Tha Next Episode" ... I grabbed it and asked the clerk if I could listen to it first because I wanted to verify the songs were on there. In fact, yes, Gz Up Hoes Down is on here, but "Tha Next Episode" is not and if I remember correctly, it never was on the album, but it was listed only.

Does anyone know if this is the original 1st edition or did they re-release a special edition copy? Thanks. I thought it was pretty cool when I found it.

Here's a pic to prove it.

It's the very pressing of the album. Anyway, "The Next Episod" isn't on any CDs ;)

I dont understand why they never rereleased it with Gz Up and Next episode....they can obviously clear the samples now, they even released a song with the same beat as the next episode on one of those death row unreleased compilations.

yup...thats the first pressing. it's rare, but not that rare.....there's never been a pressing with "tha next episode", but if u remember, bigjake of this forum used to claim he had one. he said he got it off ebay and that it was a red cd instead of a blue one....hella cats used to trip on him bout why he wouldnt upload the song in cdq, and he insisted that his 28k modem just wasnt fit to do it. prolly the first troll-job i ever witnessed, and this pre-dates what we now know as trolling. back then, every1 was jus callin him a liar and a punk, but that shit was hilarious lookin back.

back then, they couldnt get the samples cleared...another song was "doggystyle", which was also left off because of sample clearance. maybe they can clear it now, but no point in goin back and re-releasing it 30+ years later.

I used to have that same pressing. Then it got scratched to hell and wouldn't play anymore. I wish I could find myself a copy tho.
