I like mel man. He is resposible with 2001 sound. But as a solo producer he is nothing. Scott became top producers of hiphop. Dj khalil has a name in hiphop. I respect mel man. He helped dre to shape his drum programming/bassline style especially. Scott storch is another level. Without scott storch 2001 wouldnt have the same impact, dr. Dre coıldnt have his best productions without the way scott made him to follow. Even without scott storch hiphop wouldnt be the same in first decade of millenium

his lack of success as a solo producer has nothing to do with ability

sometimes people don’t have the drive and/or connects

i much prefer mel man solo beats to scott storch solo beats

scott storch is dope but his best stuff just sounded like cheaper imitation of dre beats

ironically, u didn’t like “my ego” beat by ea ski which is a far more authentic sounding west coast beat than the cookie cutter storch stuff ala “candy shop”

You guys have spent 2-3 pages arguing over who played the keyboard better on 2001!!  FFS!

This is a 2024 Snoop and Dre album.  Let’s discuss the album.  Go make another thread about Scott Storch, Camera Kamdon, Mel Man, whoever else.  They have nothing to do with this album.

relax champ

no one is stopping u from discussing the album

this is a free forum my dude

Sooooo, I started listening to the album on a decent set of headphones while out on a walk.
All I can say is that listening it on a laptop will not do it justice at all.
Beforehand, I couldn't understand why the tracks were so short and if you listened to the tracks individually, they weren't spectacular (other than 'Thank you').
However, when you play the album from beginning to end, it makes much more sense and has a good coherent vibe to it.

I think the major downside is that there isn't a classic bangers on there as we've grown to expect but as a project i'm loving it now that i've accepted Dre is past the classic g-funk and 2001 sound. As someone previous commented, if this album suddenly dropped out of the blue and listened to it (not knowing it was produced by Dre), they will approach it differently.

Snoop sounds so good on it and the ghostwriters did a good job. There wasn't unnecessary swearing or typical S-n-double-O-P, L-B-C, 2-1-3 rhymes.
Other than Thank you, I would listen to the album in its entierty instead of there odd track here and there, as the tracks don't quite work individually in the same way

Meth killed his verse and after listening to the whole of Gunz N Smoke, I liked 50's verse more than when I first heard the snippet and i'm glad Em didn't used any silly/corny accents!

Yeah was wondering how Em would sound. Dre reigned him in on this one.

From a skim through I only really liked Skyscrapers. Could have done with Raekwon on there too. Think he would have fitted well on that beat. Hard Knocks is decent till the hook comes in. Gunz & Smoke is okay too I guess. Doesn't help that I don't really care for mainstream rap anymore.

I just listened to the album

Thank you's drink champs version sounds better to me ironicly. Sometimes you should stop mixing. Why the fuck dre pushed all  his signature sound effects to behind. They can be barely heard. He even ruined the bridge starts with "once upon a time..." overmixing sucks. Damn! It is still the mega hit of album.

Last Dance with mary jane is a fucking good song. Jelly Roll made it bigger.

Rest of the album can go to trash.

If anybody tries to justify this wack album, fuck him. This is just a waste of time.

Im so fucking dissapointed. This is even worse than "compton".

They shouldnt do matrix 4, missionary neither.

This will be my last comment about album. I promise. I give up expecting anything dope from dre anymore.

Can you count 10 mel man solo beats in his all career?

I can count 20 scott storch hits that whole world knows.

Cheap dre beats? Come on! Scott has his own style. He is a jazz musician. He did lots of jazz/rnb/soul influenced hits. Even rock influenced hits. Dre has his piano-string based "dre type of beats" with scott's contribution. Funny you claim scott to make cheap dre beats. He was dominating charts in different genres.

Compton, The Contract and now this.  Each release weaker than the last.  As a life long Dre Stan it kills me to admit but the dude is washed.

bro who cares about charts, swizz beats dominated charts too

maybe calling his beats cheap is a bit exaggerated, but they are a level below dre productions with that same sound

and yes, i’m aware he started wit roots n has diff sounding beats.. but his signature style became the dre imitation stuff he was doin

Let us know 20 Storch Beats that the WHOLE WORLD knows. Hyperbole of the highest. Plus Dre has made beats in pretty much every genre going.

It didn't last long tho, Scott dominated the early 2000s and it was his own sound, it was not Dre influenced at all
