I agree.  Most of the songs have no identity and I am starting to think the beat change ups are the reason.   For me alot of the vocals...cadences do not flow with the instrumentals.

Nobody, and I do mean NOBODY, in their right mind was expecting this record to sell. I doubt even Snoop was expecting anything else. I, for example, expected even less, so this isn't even a bad result. It's more than any Snoop album since 2011. Also more than Blue Lips and Ab soul albums that came out this year.

The album continues to grow on me. I purchased the CD and vinyl (exclusive green Spotify version) and then missed out on the signed CD. Luckily I snagged a signed vinyl here: https://interscope.com/products/missionary-exclusive-blue-signed-picture-disc (image below)...

Here is what I don't understand. There is more hate on this album than I would expect. Yes, there are high expectations but Dre/Snoop even said that this is a more grown up Snoop. Snoop Dogg has morphed the past 30 years into a true household name (dude was on NBC for the Olympics lol). I'm not a Jay-Z fan per se but it reminds me of when Jay said "homies want my old shit, buy my old albums." If someone wants a more gangster Snoop then checkout the latest Dogg Pound album. To me what Dre was doing with this album was showing an older Snoop Dogg. Someone that came in the game in nine deuce with the 187 track. Gave us some hella gangster stuff on The Chronic. Dropped a debut classic with Doggystyle ... and now 30 years later (30+) this is the Snoop that has morphed over the years.

Look, my first listen was not my fav album but there are some Snoop albums I refuse to listen to. I just HATE. This album is not one of them. The reaction via social media, from what I've seen, is mostly amazing. The younger generation is even rocking with it. Soopafly I think said it that the G Funk thing we love is something Dre moved on from a long time ago. I absolutely love the ETA track from the GTA soundtrack (EP) and feel like it has that West Coast sound I really enjoy... some don't like it.. but at the end of the day.... to me this album is really really good.

Also, I mentioned prior... how much do artists even make on albums anymore? To me that is something to consider. Someone mentioned 36k sales the first week. We all know music DOES NOT sell like it use to. Artists do not make much off streaming (Snoop has complained about this many times). We can sit here and debate until we are blue in the face (outta da blue lol) but at the end of the day they release what they want to. I often feel like most artists release new work just as a write-off. e.g. production, their personal studio, etc. I could be wrong but what do you think the production cost is with Missionary? Snoop recently said Dre is not cheap. Let's say it was 5-10 million to make the album.... do you think they will even recoup that in sales including merchandise? Let's say we agree that "yeah, it is Snoop and he will." Ok... what about other artists. Do you think the DP album we even recoup the production costs? I have a feeling someone like Cube drops an album like Man Down to 1) to try and satisfy the fans2) it's a write-off of sorts in the 4th quarter of the year. Production costs, his homies that get paid for the beats/production etc.

I just know Snoop is going to continue to drop music (dude has to have the record for the most tracks made of any artist when you think of albums, side projects, side groups, mix tapes/CD, soundtracks, etc.) and if you don't like this album put some Doggystyle on or something else lol. Snoop said it was in another folder. I guess it was for somebody else, dre or paak or whatever... snoop convinced dre to give it to him.

According to the interview, it was a song the two of them recorded that was still rough around the edges and listed on a whiteboard for throw-aways called "Shit Outta Luck." Snoop convinced Dre to give it a second look and rework it to replace a song neither of them were crazy about.

Thank you is alright but it’s no super smash to me just the best record on the album. you got the end of in da club vibe going on and also  game and 50s west side type beat but for me it’s a bit too uptempo. It’s a good song but i don’t see myself coming back to it again after a few replays. Same with the other two you mentioned alright but nothing really special. The sting song as someone said on here is so cringe inducing especially with all the thanking fans Dre is doing. I said before if it was like Rza’s Banks and Steelz album it might have been ok - they need to take a lesson from them if that’s the new direction.

I’m also scratching my head why people are calling this grown music. While Snoop delivery is on point lyrics I’d describe almost all of it as the Meth and Red style of rapping to say whatever in a verse as long as it sounds cool but end of the day it’s meaningless and unconnected but fun.m. I mean grown to me would be at least some introspective song with all that’s happened lately. Like easily there could have been a song on there about moms and pretty Toney passing away yet brand Snoop Dogg ain’t got time to stop and mourn as busy bringing back Death Row and representing USA for Olympics. There could have been songs how he put people in the game and proud of them even though had their ups and downs and they are the legacy and and some passed like Bad Azz and Nate and how the games lacking soul without Nate and the shoes never been filled. Probably I’m  getting over the top but it’s not hard to come up with concepts like these. now grown music - nothing here sounds grown music wise and like mentioned Just Blaze style beats to me are not showing any growth

It's funny, when Chronic, Doggystyle, All Eyez On Me, Regulate, The Last Meal, 2001 and the list goes on. we weren't there to say, if you listen to it on headphones you'll hear every little thing... fuck it... that's what people do now when it's Dre. listen on headphones and you will see how clearly you can hear the little boom. we don't give a damn. I listen to GNX on the speaker of my phone and my head bounces, the same in the car, on headphones or on the television. This excuse of having to listen to it on headphones dates back to the 2010s to sell Beats By Dre

If you ever work with music like I do then you would understand the concept of absorbing & appreciating the art of production, especially on good headphones.

I don’t expect most fans to understand this as you hear this with a broad sense, while some like me will analyze and appreciate the little things

Can someone explain like I'm 5 what's going on with the different releases and which I should check out and which I should avoid?  I'm hearing there's a 15 track version and a 16 track version and the mixing and/or mastering is fucked up on one but not the other.  Should I get the CD, vinyl, FLAC?  What's the deal?  And now apparently there's an instrumental release?  Is there a difference in that one as well?

cd version is fine and probably so is the 15 track version up on apple music.

but the 16 track version boy oh boy something went wrong there it's so hot it's borderline distorting.

Bought the cd today. And it is way better than the Apple streams. Thanks for the info. Basses bump. Outta da blue is way better mixed.

Enjoying his 70’s blaxploitation/suspense movie soundtrack style mixed with some funk rock and reggae elements. Stylish and obscure. Every sound is dope, guitars, Horns, effects and most of all hi-hats and percussion.

Only big misfit is thank you (which im happy is not on my cd); it doesnt match the style and it does have an ugly arpeggio(in no way comparable to Westside story or in da club) and the last minute of gangsta pose (satisfiction pt2).

 I am not a regular mainstream Dr Dre fan;both chronics and their hits are kind of played out to me more than 10 years ago. I am not fiending for Dre and Snoop to have mainstream succes again. I listen to the firm, big bang, lastmeal, aftermath compilation, unreleased stuff etc. And missionary is a Nice addition to that catalog.

I do hope for the return of p funk influenced basslines one day; the better cd mix of Gorgeous reminds a bit of p funk though.

Yes I can understand your point of view. but personally what I wanted to say is that. whether on my phone, in my car or on headphones, the productions suck. and it's not with fucking good headphones that I would appreciate this album better.
