I miss Infinites yearly appreciation thread for RRGB...you might have inspired him to make a new one 8)

hot take, i prefer kuruption west coast disc over daz retaliation revenge n getback

meh.. I don't think I will lose my shit on this one.  RRGB is a flawless 10/10 album up to the gold standard of the Dre era of Death Row—however—HigheyeCue and Sccit both know because I've posted on this topic so many times that I am forever fascinated and enamored with what I consider to be that "IN BETWEEN" period of Hip-Hop,

That period that I say started the day Doggfather dropped — and was less than expected — and ended the day "Bitch Please" feat. Xzibit and Nate Dogg dropped and led to the West Coast Resurgence that spawned all the forums that led to the dubcc and Sccit and I's friendship, etc.. all really came from that Resurgence era, there is no dubcc without the Resurgence Era.

So that little period of 97 and 98 is just so fascinating to me.  And though albums like Kuruption didn't meet the gold standard I am still fascinated by that album and I must have listened to it every single day at age 16 my first year with a DL, and I still have never stopped listening and talking about that album.  Same with albums like Bad Azz Word On The Streetz.  Those albums weren't perfect, but they got a special place with me.

So I'm totally cool with Sccit or anybody else biggin up the Kuruption album.  Here's the first song I ever heard mentioned or reviewed on my very first day on an internet forum, and it's another vintage track from the "IN BETWEEN ERA" some very astute older head like Trauma was complaining that Snoop rhymed "down" with "down" lol.  And the rest was history, been rocking with these forums ever since, stopped watching TV afterschool and logged into follow this niche segment of the internet:

yeah its funny Streetz and Space Boogie are better albums yet I too find myself keep going back to Kuruption!

I think you hit it on the head there's more of a fascination with the project since it was his 1st solo

I remember going to HMV in the city the day it came out and they had the listening booths in the back where you could pretty much hear the whole CD for free

I listened to the opening track and Fresh and thought it was going to be like that but I was wrong

yeah I know I got it the day it dropped, and how hyped I was waiting for it--but strangely I don't remember my feelings the first day I listened to it.  I do remember being satisfied with how it started, like tracks 1-3, but I don't remember anything after that from the first day.   Maybe I had to drive to work I was a busboy bussin tables at a resteraunt at that time.  So maybe I couldn't play it all the way through.  I can't remember my feelings day one after that.

I'm sure I was disappointed as I got further into the East Coast disc, but not enough that I remember a great depresssion overcoming me like with Snoop's 2nd and 3rd albums

U da homie but Soopafly is right — how do you not have more regard for RRGB?  You have now put Kuruption and DAT Whoopty Woop above RRGB

This calls for a poll because u in violation homie and have blasphemied against my dad — I mean Daz

i like RRGB

but the standout cuts on kuruption are better to me than the standout cuts on RRGB

plus, i played kuruption way more, so there's the familiarity and nostalgia factor as well

if east coast disc of kuruption was never made then the album would have been regarded much higher

i personally dont even count the east coast disc and basically never played it tbh, so when i say i prefer kuruption im talking strictly west coast disc

That doesn't help your cause....

"We Can Freak It" and "Ask Yourself" are Classix.

But "In California" is a great of a lead single as "We Can Freak It"
Then, did you know that "Initiated" is still being played at clubs around the world???
"Gang Bangin Azz Criminal" beats anything on Kurupts album (aside from the 2 above) it's the ultimate posse cut
Daz and Too Short made magic with their collab
"Ultimate Come Up" is a better guest spot from Bad Azz than most the guest spots on Kuruption
Title Track on RRGB is harder than anything on Kuruption makes Kuruption look soft
"Our Daily Bread" would've made it on Dogg Food
"O.G.'z" is a Classic — that was like top of Daz stash when Death Row was crumbling he stayed because he knew he was sitting on gold with tracks like this and "Initiated" so he had to stay and make the last great Death Row album !!!!

And you say you love the Bay and don't even mention what Daz did wit "Playa Patna" — he actually made the Bay sounds dope !!

we can freak it >> in california
ask yourself a question >> gang bangin ass criminal
fresh >> ultimate comeup
c-walk >> our daily bread

there's a reason i called it a hot take tho .. i know RRGB is objectively better from a musical standpoint. but those top 4 cuts from kuruption got HEAVY rotation from me during my earlier years, where as i bumped RRGB but not nearly as much, so there is some emotional bias there

you could even make the argument that both We Can Freak It and C-Walk are top 20 west coast beats

Fresh sounds like it could've been on Dogg Food

Those are iconic beats — no doubt.  "Ask Yourself" is up there as well...

"Initiated" isn't far behind though — it's nearly an iconic West Coast beat as well.  Some lines and flows on that track are pretty iconic;

"So many dayz and so many
We been duckin strayz...
Still we some Bad Boy Killaz !!"

You've never listened to the east coast disc of Kuruption after all these years?  You're doing yourself a disservice.  There's good stuff on that disc too.

I would go as far as to say Initiated is a better opening track than any of the Big 3 which I consider The Chronic, Doggystyle and Dogg Food
