How the fuck did this become a Warren G vs Coolio thread? Two VERY different artists, both with classic debut albums. That's where the comparison ends though. Coolio was a better rapper but Warren had the flow and the production. Coolio had more hits but only one complete album (It Takes a Thief) while the G Child dropped some underrated gems after Regulate.
hey The Sign was an earworm
warren g rhyme structure and flow was all real simple some AA-BB cat in the hat type shit that said, his music was production driven and that simplicity complimented it wellcoolio is a better emcee, but warren made better musicand i was fuckin around earlier... there's no issue with soopafly being a huge coolio fan. coolio was indeed dope and underrated by the heads because of his commercial crossover.
I disagree with the premise that rhyme structure and flow is the ultimate criteria for judging an emcee. For me it's their unique style. Like coming up with new styles and how well you flip that style.Like the most basic example is you might have a fast rapper and people are impressed with how fast he can rap, but Slick Rick and Snoop proved how you can slow it down and not rush the flow and it can be better in that way. Snoop discusses this at length in his autobiography, like an unhassled, unrushed approach to rhyming and also to life.
