Which of these two artists do you think had a bigger impact on hip-hop? I think Snoop had a MUCH bigger impact than 50 did because at the time snoop came out he brought rap to the forefront and to the mainstream to fans who only listened to rock and than once they heard snoop they start chantin bow wow wow yipee yo yipee yay and all knew all his words but i think 50 came in at a time when rap is already popularized and he is really bringing nothin new into the rap game all he's doing is selling a lot and he ain't even selling more than snoop did either.

50 cent hasn't made an impact on rap at all, all he did was sell records

snoop got everybody checkin for gangsta rap and put lbc on the map

one thing 50 cent did do is blew the mixtape scene way up, everybody has a mixtape now

There you go.  Even Snoop Dogg is influenced by 50 Cent's mixtapes.

now, its hard to make an impact on hip hop. How can you say something that no one has ever said or ever done.

When snoop came out, he had the best flow ever heard in rap. He still has one of the best voices. Besides that. His impact was huge. He was one of the pioneers to bring westcoast rap to mainstream radio.

50 is a talented artist, but his music in no way changes how Hip Hop should sound. His sound isn't very different, he's not the best rhymer out there, but he brings emotion and heart to his words... he's talented, but he's not making a big impact...

This is what I wrote at SOHH with the same topic.

IMPACT/INFLUENCE
Snoop:
Snoop had the bigger impact on hip hop and popular culture.

He had people across the nation rockin' chucks, flannels, khakis, hockey jerseys, etc.

He had copy cat rappers emulating his whole style (eg. Da Brat, Kriss Kross, etc.)

He put "Biyatch", the izzle sh*t, etc. into American language (Even though he did not originate those terms).

He was the first to put gangsta rap into Top 40 radio.

His album influenced and motivated future great MC's (eg. The Notorious B.I.G.)

He was referenced in cartoons of that era (eg. Eek The Cat, episode "Shark Doggy Dogg")

Doggystyle numbers were astronomical for 1993 and unheard of in hip hop until a decade after hip hop has become the biggest music in America (eg. Eminem and 50). Plus Soundscan was NOT used in the majority of the stores across the country other than national record chains. The local stores and department stores (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc) did not use the Soundscan yet which makes the numbers even more astonishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So in all Snoop influenced American music, language, clothing-style, etc.

There must be other sh*t I can't think of right now but I will list them later.

50:
The only trend 50 has influenced is the whole mixtape craze going on across the nation right now.

SALES FIGURES
1993:
Doggystyle sold 803,000 in a time when hip hop was not universal and Soundscan only was available in national record stores and was not established in local chains or national department stores (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) which would heavily effect sales counts (Source: VH1). 5 months after release it is certified 4X platinum but Death Row does not continue to pay for certifications although VH1 estimates it has sold 8 million copies (Source: Snoop Dogg Behind The Music).

2003:
Hip hop is at it's peak in terms of popularity. Get Rich Or Die Tryin' sells 872,000 just 70,000 more than Doggystyle in it's first week in an era of internet bootlegging. 5 months after release it is certified 5X platinum and rising.

Both are phenomenal sales figures but Doggystyle takes this considering the era.

I think Snoop's had a much, much, much bigger impact, for all the reasons stated.  50 sells a lot, but he hasn't changed or influenced ANYTHING with the exception of making mixtapes more mainstream.  50 won't have the longevity that snoop has enjoyed, either.  I mean, are you hyped for a new 50 cent album? I'm not.

I said in another thread that Snoop was much bigger than Em was, but nobody agreed.  I think 93 Snoop was bigger than anybody's been in rap yet, he blew the hell up, WAYYYYY up.

I created this exact thread a few months ago on a different board, so i see where u are comin from?

I compared em because of their sales, their media impact, and their ties 2 Dre. But other than that there is nooo comparison.

Snoops flow was waaaay ahead ofhis time. 50 iscoo but reaaaally nothin special.
