I think that what people are saying is that although there has been loads of good shit, there hasn't been any classic or near classic shit. The East has had Gangstarr, Canibus, Jedi Mind Tricks, Little Brother, etc which have all been better than the stuff released on the west this year.

I didn't feel the westcoast hip hop scene really delivered what i wanted this year.

The Westcoast scene every now and then did treat us to few delights.
Sonic Jihad was soild, Gangsta Nations was a dope single,...
Hip Hop bieng a global super power, it was nice to have some westcoast artists return with material to the game WSC, Boo Ya, Paris.

Snoop being the most active westcoast artist but let the side down. Acting the fool all year long, telling lies (this time im quittin weed for good..), apparently robbing other westcoast artists, coming out with coon statements on tv shows, paying a pimp to teach him how to act like a pimp, releasing a whole lot of material some good most bad.
He should get rid of his yes men.

Crosses fingers for next year.

Ghetto, Gutter & Gangsta
West Koasta Nostra
Godzilla
IV Life Records mixtapes

^^^^These were all very good releases. And I'm sure that those other albums from your list (Ecay Uno, Militia All Stars [gonna get this one for Christmas btw], Lifestyle, C-Bo,...) are also tight albums.

So for me, it was a good year.  8)

the coast doin aight dawg, jus aint droppin heat that gets listened to by the newcomers today, cuz alot still spittin rhymes that been said 10 years ago...........snoop the only well known artist from teh west who done loads this year but as the year continued, his materail slowly started gettin weaker......i mean look at the difference between welcome to the chuuch volume 1 and then the shit he spittin with 213.........the 213 album stuff so far sounds pretty weak man, i mean i dont think them niggaz actually realise what 213 means to westcoast hiphop..........or maybe now they do is why the major delays...........im pumped about wsc..........but i mean mack 10 comes sick on alot of joints but he sounds like a phony man...........like he tries so hard to spit gangsta shit that he ends up dissin himself half the time, ice cube spittin raw shit again and ghetto H is always droppin heat........game was a lil fresh of breath air along with sly boogy but he aint gettin heard nowhere..........game spits gangsta shit but atleast his reppin shit to the fullest......and sly deserves to get recognised.....e-40 is slowly gettin heard.........but i aint really diggin his shit as of late.......another problem on the west is they forget the beats they use to make............it was a mix between funk and hiphop.....now its jus pure funk and it aint really gettin heard cuzz funk over niggaz tryna still rap old skool gangsta rap aint workin.......fredwreck the only westcoast producer who producin heat from the upcomin producers n shit................u know nima listed a dope selection of artists their...........but if u take out snoop and wsc...........how many units did the rest of them niggaz sell together?..................aint no real vandetta against the west man, but until they dont start droppin dopeshit.........THAT RADIO IS GONNA PLAY...........we aint gon sell.............and niggaz cant say, "who gives a fuck if they dont sell as long as they makin dope music"....cuz if they dont sell, they wont be rappin much longer

peace

This was a really good year for all of hip-hop, cuz lots of artists took a year or two off. And they came back this year. This year was awesome.

My favorites off the west were probably The D.O.Cs and Roscoes. Haven't heard Westside Connections yet, im waiting till it comes out.

i aint heard them all but it's a pretty good list

wasn't a bad year for the west, no real classics dropped but there was a lot of solid work that came out, could've been worse

Word.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

To be honest there wasnt even much on that list that jumped out at me. Even the bigger names like E40, Bo, and even Defari's album didnt impress me very much at all. I think the Coast on the whole just needs a shot in the arm.

Even though it might be a few albums you liked, you have to admit it was pretty dull compared to say 2000-01, when you had a lot of different people clickin up, you had some BIG singles on the West, maybe not nationwide, but still some great singles (IE High Come Down, Dollaz Drank N Dank, Game Dont Wait Remix). THAT was a decent year for the west by modern standards.

All I saw this year was everyone jumping on the mixtape bandwagon and a lot of indi people putting out very average records. I know thats harsh but its just my very humble opinion.

not one of those albums is outstanding/amazing/near classic imo.  all very avg albums at best, a lot are below avg.  barely any albums dropped this year have any replay value.  Nothing new at all, I've heard it all before by different artists.

It doesn't matter if all those albums were dope, they're not gettin airplay on the radio, their videos are not getting played on MTV or BET, hardly anyone outside of Cali (or the internet) know about those albums.
