I respect Nas and think he's one of the realest commercial emcees out there, but I'm not really listenin' to him that much though. I prefer Jiggaman 8)

Love him as a lyricist (Stillmatic, Illmatic, God's Son)
HATE him when he's trying to be gangsta.
Don't know why.

he's damn good but ya'll forgot to mention his GARBAGE albums - i am and nastradamus. everyone seems to forget that he has the ability to put out trash too. i think when jay dissed him, it forced him to step up his game about 12 notches. so props to jay for dissin him. i bet that if jay didn't diss him, he would've kept makin shitty music. but word - nas is dope

I luv Nas. He's one of the best lyricists ever, commercial or underground, "Illmatic" and the "Lost Tapes" are classic...he is able to drop garbage and I don't like it when he tries to be gangsta either but overall he's one of the best ever

dude "I Am..." was dope as fuck...that had some of the best nas tracks on it imo. (we will survive, nas is like, you wont see me tonight, kissing, money is my bitch, and of course...favor for a favor)

nastradamus isnt garbage...people just expected to hear too much out of it. its the same shit that happened with westside connection...everyone expected bow down but they got terrorist threats. everyone expected illmatic & it was written and they got nastradamus. that album is still better than 90% of the shit out today.

Beyonce >> Kelis

Any day, imo..

Notice how many Nas-fans are eager to stress "better than Jay-Z" or "King of New York" in their posts and generally take shots @ him.. something to prove ??

Yer i never understood why people hated on I Am so much, it was the first Nas album i ever got and it got me into listening to more of his albums. NY State of Mind 2 was just as good as the original, Hate Me Now and Nas Is Like were nice commercial based tracks, it also featured two of the greatest (i.e. Aaliyah and Scarface) ... Nas' verse on Small World was :o and big thangs another nice track ...

I think the main reason it's hated on was because it was one of Nas' more commercial based LP's. Prior to, he only had a few like Street Dreams, If I ruled the world, etc. Plus to i think the decent tracks on the album were outshined by the shitier ones, Kissing, I want to talk to you, Dr Knockboots etc.

I agree that Nastradamus is fairly average for his standards, but he's still my favourite living rapper.
