I remember "Pumps and a bump". Say what you say, but "The funky headhunter" was a very dope album.

yea, i also like that album
but the world will only remeber him for that gay song "cant touch this"

and thats what the topic is all about, from my point of view..
he had "1 hit" - 99% of all folks listening to pop music, even listening to rap, will answer "cant touch this" if you ask them what songs do you know by mc hammer... ::)

Yeah, sad cause he got some dope songs. "Straight to my feet" is funky as can motherfuckin be. The whole "The funky headhunter" is dope. Sure you can say he was playing gangsta rapper in that album but... I give a damn, the music is nice and that's what matters to me.

TQ - Westside (his only solo hit in the U.S., in Europe I heard Bye Bye Baby was huge)

Bye Bye Baby, Daily, and Keep It On The Low also got a significant amount of radio play in the US, and his new album should get some more attention.

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Sugarhill Gang, as much props as they do definitely deserve, i wouldn't know about any real success except for that one song we all know

They had other fairly big songs, not as big as Rapper's Delight but still. Apache was huge in the 80s.

Yep... that album has the only released Hammer / Tha Row collaboration on I believe - 'Masterplan' with Kurupt and Daz on it - dope track

mc hammer - cant touch this

no.  "dancin' machine" was also a hit, as was "pray".  was "here comes the hammer" a single?  the radio was playing that whole album it seemed.  dude had atleast 3 hits off that one album.  "2 legit 2 quit" was also a big hit on his next album.  dude was doing title tracks for movies and such.  that addam's family shit?  c'mon.  dude was not a one hit wonder.

shit, i was listening to hammer's shit yesterday, and reminiscing on an argument i had with my boy khary that "dancin' machine" was a better song than "u can't touch this".

"pumps & a bump" and that "the funky headhunter" album dropped when he was starting to fizzle, but it still got some play as da illest has pointed out.
