From a while back, Rolling Stone's Top 50 Artists of All Time
« on: November 20, 2004, 11:27:13 AM »
Since we were discussing the top songs, I thought I'd put this up. It's from a while ago.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/gallery/rock-icons/flash.htm

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Yeah, I agree. I've never really liked the Rolling Stones too much.

Michael Jackson at #35? This is bullshit. He should've been ranked way higher.

I disagree with that, I wouldn't have put him that high. No way would I have put him above David Bowie, John Lennon, The Doors, Van Morrison, Sly And The Family Stone, Public Enemy, Janis Joplin, Elton John or the Beastie Boys.

Ray Charles would be ahead of the Rolling Stones for sure on my list. Johnny Cash would be way higher as well. Same with David Bowie and Prince. And Curtis Mayfield not being on the list is weak.

Jimi Hendrix is #6 I think.

Why? He's right. I like the RHCP but they're not among the greats of all time.
