I strongly resent that comment! English hooligans. the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland fans are not only hooligans. Its only the English fans that cant take losing. the grown up responsible English fans can take the defeat on the chin but they always take a thousand or so fans that think acting like a hooligan is the appropriate reaction to another disapointing tournament.
So please don't tar us all with the same brush by saying were all hooligans.
Looking forward to the tournament it will be great to watch it purely for football reasons and not have to listen to the over hyping of the england team.

I think it's a bit too easy to blame everything on Donadoni. Your team ain't what it used to be (2006), your defense always was your big strength with nesta and cannavaro, and now the defense is exposed, they can't substitute them equally. This was a game between two of the worst competitors of the tournament. Switzerland was a little bit worse than Turkey, so they lost. I don't think Turkey will stand a chance against CR.

Holand will just let romania win for eliminate france and italy, that's a simple and normal calcul.
the problem for the france is always and always the success..they got 3-4 easy goal and 12 chance to mark. in comparasion holand shot 6 times and goal 4 times. at this level it's a question of success. france play better on some level.

I (slightly) disagree with two things here: The result wasn't too high. Of course the Dutch were a bit lucky, that goes for both games, since both Italy and France had some opportunities they couldn't turn into goals. Still, the fact it both resulted in 3+ victories proves the Dutch system right and the fact that the French shot at goal a lot doesn't mean all that much taking into account that the large majority of their attempts was harmless stuff.My only concern is they may have peaked too early and how they react when they go behind.
There's no telling what might happen next. After that incredible win against Italy, people weren't expecting the Dutch to actually live up to the expectations. Well, I guess they were wrong (me included), although, as opposed to the Italy-match, this time the final score seems unfitting with the actual match.
It's not too hard to predict what will happen when an opponent scores; you've already seen what happened when the French scored. The look on Robben's face: priceless. That's precisely what's to be expected from a team which plays with such an incredible will to show and prove: you think you've got one on them, but it only motivates them.
As for the assumed defensive weakness of the Dutch... There's no walking past Boulahrouz - he's impossibly accurate with them slidings. Ooijer is proving himself to be very solid as well. Van Bronckhorst needs no further explaining. It's only Mathijsen who's being a threat to his own defense, but merely because he constantly plays on the edge of what the referee allows; he risks getting one or two penalties against him. That's about the only real weakness in the defense. You can't say the defensive midfielders are weak either; De Jong has proven to be a great replacement for Heitinga, and Engelaar has been incredibly solid for FC Twente for years now, and his talents are finally being noticed by a bigger audience. He just had an off-day against the French, which resulted in him being rather invisible during the first half, but it happens.
For the next match, the Dutch can work on the rhythm of a great bunch of substitutes. I can just see Heitinga, Huntelaar, Bouma, De Cler, Melchiot, De Zeeuw, Vennegoor, Afellay etc getting some time to shine. That may seem an unfair advantage to the Romanians, but don't underestimate the will of such substitutes to prove that they belong in the main team. The Romanians won't get away easy.

yup. Ronaldo is important, but what makes them more than average is the defense. Ferreira and Carvalho are two world class defenders, and Pepe already proved his skills. Now tell me who has a better defense than that? I think the point you mentioned is exactly the difference to former Porugal teams- everything depended on Deco and Figo. Now the roster has way more depth because of young guys like Nani ,Quaresma or Moutinho who seem to have potential, Scolari has many options for offense and defense. Besides the goalie, the only weakness may be the lack of a pure goalgetter like van Nistelroy or Toni.

You never know with the Germans, same as Italy. They can be wack in every single game of the tournament and end up winning it. Portugal definitely has the better team than Germany, but it's Germany after all. I'm pretty confident we'll see a semi ESP - NED, which should be great.

I find it pretty dumb if they delete cards after 3 games, besides - yellow cards are often deserved and imo the refs could give a card quicker
the rule USED TO ALWAYS BE the cards are wiped out after group stage. this year they are not wiped out till after quarterfinals stage, so better not fuck up =X cuz going to the next round without key players cuz of a yellow card would blow

if the last defender brings down an opposing player in the box then its a straight red card son.. and with the romania / italy game penatly the ref was right not to give panucci a red because he wasnt the last defender.
But the important thing is with France he was the last defender, so it's an automatic red card. The French players didn't complain much, so that tells you everything.

Italy qualified to the quarters by survivng to the "Group of death". They didn't make 9 points like Holland, but they still managed to beat France 2-0 and make 4 points. That said, Italy is historically known for having slow starts and strong finishes, while Spain is known for the opposite. You should never do the mistake of underrating a team like Italy who's used to win big trophies (unlike Spain). The last time somebody did it, we won the World Cup by beating Germany in their house. No one says Italy will definitely beat Spain, the way it's been going, Spain should win, but some people are not quite ruling out the possibility.There are tournament teams and teams that usually fuck up in tournaments. Well, I've got to say that the Germans outclased the Portuguese. Ronaldo was inaffective, and Nani when he came on was just terrible. He is not international class yet. His final ball and decision making is awful. Obviously I'm hoping he will get better, but he has alot of maturing to do. As for Germany, how Podolski doesn't play regularly for his club is a mystery. He is class. Bit of a push by Ballack for the 3rd goal, but in the end I think Germany deserved it and are worthy of their pre-tournement favourites tag.

I would say Schweinsteiger was even worse than Podolski. I think you could see that Podolski improved in the last games for bayern, but Schweinsteiger had like one good game in the whole season.
