The Celtics would need Perkins to match up against teams with a big front court, like the Lakers.

What many people think the trade means, is that the Celtics arent preparing for the Lakers. They are preparing for the Spurs. They will need players who can get to the perimeter and defend three point shooters. Not just bigmen to guard the paint.

last I checked Boston still has:

Rajon Rondo:  the best passer AND defender among the NBA's talented crop of point guards.  also the best play maker.  yes I know he can't make free throws but his shooting is getting better.


Ray Allen:  the best 3 point shooter in NBA history and is at his BEST at that particular catagory this year

Paul Pierce:  a guy who can go for 30 on any given night

Kevin Garnett:  Pau Gasol still fears this man

Shaq:  He'll be on his game in the playoffs...for 20-30 minutes max ofcourse.

Big Baby Davis:  the most experienced bench player we've had all these years.

Im not sure what most of that post has to do with what I said. I know youre a little emotional right now, but try to stay on topic lol.

I said that one of the theories out there as to WHY the Celtics would trade away such an important piece (remember, I argued that you guys would have won the championship last year had Perkins been healthy) is because they were preparing for the possibility of facing the Spurs in the finals. Perkins would be a big factor in a series against the Lakers, because of their size. Against the Spurs, you would need perimeter defenders to guard against the three more than extra size in the middle to help on the boards.

And I was joking about the Celtics not being a contender. I still have them coming out of the East...with the Bulls looking more and more dangerous. The Heat have to figure out how to win close games against good teams.

I can see the Bulls beating Miami in a 7 games series but not Boston , they need a little more playoffs experience as a team imo ... Boston is likely to sign Murphy, can stretch the floor with his shooting , a good rebounder but a horrible defender ...

Murphy is a decent pickup. I was hoping the Spurs would make a run at him.

histocially speaking, no team has EVER started out as good as the Spurs have and not reached the NBA Finals

If there is one team that can change the course of the past, it's got to be the spurs.
