Breaking Bad

Sounds sort of simillar to Dexter which I love. How would you compare these two ?

Not like Dexter at all. I like  Dexter but Breaking Bad rivals the best films with its storytelling, acting, directing and character development. I love the way it's shot too.

They recently showed season 1 on TV here, I got hooked from episode 1. It ended right before season 2 started on AMC, and been watching the new episodes now. It's an excellent show, no doubt.

I find myself really anticipating each episode more and more after I finish watching the new one. It's really going to be interesting to see how Walt deals with the Latin drug lords and I'm guessing Saul Goodman is going to be a big factor in all of that.

Same here.  That was great how they used a "narcocorrido" and were able to fit into the overall story of Breaking Bad.  I have a friend who is really into them, and he actually heard about that song weeks before he knew about the series.  Most of these "corridos" are based on true events though.  Some drug lords even pay people to write about them.

I never knew that about the "corridos". It really has an effect on why they used it. I never thought it was bad and I did like it but I also found it a tad cheesy, but in now knowing about the history of the "corridos" the cheesyness is gone.

Here's a recent "corrido", now obviously it's in Spanish but it's basically about some hitman of the Sinaloa Cartel called Pancho Arce. 



A verse in that song says this

"yo soy pancho arce estoy para servirles
siempre y cuando ande franco yo en la empresa
porque es un honor para mi ser del virus
que ataca a quien quiera hacer daño a MZ"

Quick translation

"Im Pancho Arce, and I'm here at your service
always and only if it's for the business
because it's an honor to be part of the virus
that attacks anyone that tries to harm MZ"

The hitmen crew is called Anthrax that's why the song says virus in there.  Sometimes these songs say what the newspaper don't say...it's just crazy.
