news Eminem Releases New Single "Not Afraid" (Audio) - By : Nima - April 29, 2010

Eminem spoke to Angela Yee today about his upcoming album "Recovery", which is set to drop June 22nd. Check out the article below, courtesy of MTV.com:

"Eminem has said that when he opened up his planned album Relapse 2 to a variety of producers, he was inspired to not just change the direction of the LP, but rethink the project completely: He buried the Relapse sequel and started working on Recovery, which will be out on June 22.

"I kinda went back to the lab on that whole concept," Em told radio personality Angela Yee on her Shade 45 show "The Morning After," on Thursday (April 29). "As I started getting to work with different producers and sh--, the very sound changed and I kinda turned the corner."

Em rattled off an impressive array of trackmasters that he secured for Recovery, including Dr. Dre, DJ Khalil, Boi-1da — who produced the album's first single, "Not Afraid," which debuted Thursday — and Havoc from Mobb Deep.

"He sent me a couple of tracks," Em, a huge Mobb Deep fan, said of Havoc. "They were both cool, but one of them was that sh-- and I had to do something to it. I'm just happy I got to work with him."

Jim Jonsin (T.I., Lil Wayne) also worked on the LP. "He was open to ideas," Jonsin told Mixtape Daily. "He was real respectful to my craft. He let me do what I do. He asked me ideas on some of the lyrics. We had ideas for lyric changes. Certain words may or may not work on radio. We talked about that. He had a setup outside of the room to do production, but I'd rather be in the room where he was at, and he was cool with that. And I knocked out a couple of joints in there while he was in there with me. He was pretty open and he let me do my thing. He did his thing. It was a pretty good experience.

"We touched on something that I haven't done anything like that before," Jonsin added. "It's unique in a way for myself. It's a place I've been wanting to go, and I'm so happy he allowed it to go down. He played a huge part in the record. Without him on it, it's not the same. I don't wanna give up too much about what it is and what direction."

Slim Shady told Yee that Recovery is diverse and doesn't have a uniform sound.

"There's a variety of different things, different moods and things like that on there," he said of the LP. "There's not just one overall sound. It's a bunch of different sh--."

Another surprise Em dropped about the album: For the first time, he will not have any skits. The often-hilarious segments had become a hallmark of Slim Shady's albums."

Listen to the single, "Not Afraid", below:

Eminem - Not Afraid (Prod. by Boi 1da)

A few days ago, Em also dropped a ferocious freestyle of him ripping Drake's "Over" beat and Lloyd Banks' "Beamer Benz Bentley":

Eminem - Despicable (Freestyle)

news City Haze Interview - By : Chad - April 28, 2010

A couple of months ago rising Brooklyn emcee City Haze leaked a track off his upcoming EP, Star of the City, called “Lost In Tokyo” where he metaphorically takes hip hop on a winding voyage from the genre’s birthplace in New York to the land of the rising son, Japan, with the help of Wu-Tang Clan beatsmith Rza that awestruck hip hop’s blogosphere.

It’s safe to say the song marked Haze’s arrival as a player on hip hop’s landscape. If that isn’t enough, the young emcee has already garnered the attention of Universal Music Group who has provided him with distribution for his ladies hit “Tell Me What’s Good” via iTunes.

In a brief period of time City Haze has already position himself as an artist to be reckoned with. With the impeding release of his EP coming this May, a modest Haze says he’s only getting started and has much more to accomplish in his career. Read our interview with Haze as we talk about “Lost In Tokyo,” his deal with Universal and who he’s feeling out West.

Growing up in South Los Angeles, as a child of a single parent, Annimean ventured into the streets for guidance. In December 2006 Annimean was released from state prison after a 7 year term for two accounts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Hungry to rap and ready for a new lifestyle, Annimean stayed with his family who attended the Musician's Institue in Hollywood. From there Annimean put together a 5 track demo and began performing at local show cases around the greater Los Angeles area.

Two years later, Annimean has worked with some of the biggest dj's and artists in the west coast. news New Dubcnn Column: "Is It Me... Or Do I Smell Some Ish?" - By : Nima - April 21, 2010

Dubcnn is very excited to announce a brand new music column that will be debuting in May 2010 called "Is It Me.. Or Do I Smell Some Ish?", that will give our readers a behind the scenes look at the recording industry.

Launched by the heavyweight entertainment industry executive Stan Sheppard, the column will give an in-depth look at the deals being made across the country, the politics behind making those deals and their potential for success in the marketplace. For our readers who are not familiar with Stan Sheppard, we will list his accomplishments below.

Stan Sheppard first started out as a writer/producer in the 1980's at Island Records. While there, he wrote/produced the label's first #1 R&B single on the Neo-Soul group By All Means. The group went on to have two Gold records worldwide. In 1990, Sheppard was given a multi-million dollar deal with Motown Records and while there he wrote/produced two number one R&B songs and four Top 10 singles on the Grammy Award winning R&B acts Gerald Alston and The Temptations.

While at Motown, his recordings sold over 10 million units worldwide. In 1994, Sheppard was hired by the world famous Jackson Family to be the co-president of the family's entertainment division which he ran with his life-long friend Jermaine Jackson.

In 1996, Sheppard entered the field of Rap Music where he established the West Coast Rap Music powerhouse label Sheppard Lane Records with Tony Lane. This label/management company directed the careers of figures like DJ Quik, DJ Battlecat, Suga Free and Mausberg amongst others.

Sheppard was also responsible for freeing DJ Quik and 2nd II None from their awful contracts at Profile Records and then negotiated a multi-million dollar deal for them at Arista Records with Mr. Clive Davis.

Sheppard was also responsible for uniting Snoop Dogg and DJ Quik on stage for a live performance for the first time in history. During his time at Sheppard Lane Records, Sheppards artists/producers sold over 20 million records world-wide. Sheppard, along with Power 106's then program director, Damion "Damizza" Young helped to establish Power 106 as a Rap music powerhouse and together they were responsible for bringing the stations number one air personality Big Boy to prominence as their morning time DJ. Sheppard and Young also conceived and launched the DJ Quik radio show at the station.

Now, I guess you can see why dubcnn is very excited to have Stan Sheppard on board. Stay tuned and get ready for some very interesting reading.

For more information on Stan Sheppard, check out dubcnn's interview with him back in November of 2008 by clicking here.

news New Young De "Watcha Gonna Do" Prod. by Scoop DeVille - By : Nima - April 13, 2010

The year 2010 so far has seen the fast rise of a young producer from the West Coast, Scoop DeVille. The son of the legandary OG Kid Frost cemented his place in the game by producing the addictive "I Wanna Rock" for Snoop Dogg, followed by back-to-back bangers, including Fat Joe's latest single with Young Jeezy "Slow Down".

Simultaneously, we have seen the rise of a young MC, Young De aka Demrick, who first stepped into the game endorsed by Kurupt and Damizza, only to later become the protege of two West Coast legends, B-Real and Xzibit.

With the latter two, he has formed the group Serial Killaz, which should be dropping an EP later this year. Young De also has another EP in the works, entirely produced by the aforementioned Scoop DeVille. If that's not enough, he's also currently featured on Cypress Hill's single, "It Ain't Nothin'".

news Game Set To Release The "R.E.D. Album" July 15th - By : LilJay - April 13, 2010

Game is set to release his highly anticipated "R.E.D. Album" on June 15th. The album will be executive produced by Game and Pharrell Williams, who jumped at the opportunity to collaborate. “Game is good kid…and I'm excited for the world to hear the many facets of his character...what's even crazier is that as a fan, I cannot believe I am actually producing songs on the same album as Dr.Dre. Humbling, man… I owe Game for that one. His album is gonna be a problem," states Pharrell.

Leading off the "R.E.D. Album" will be the Pharrell produced street anthem "It Must Be Me", a West Coast influenced trunk rattler that features Game spitting venomous lyrics reminiscent of an early "I got something to prove" Ice Cube. Following will be the Justin Timberlake assisted "Ain’t No Doubt About It" where the two J.T.’s sing and rap over a radio hit that will be blasting out of car windows and club speakers this spring. “I never thought I would have the chance to work with Justin, but to come up with a smash like we did, it’s only fitting,” Game asserts.

In addition to working closely with Pharrell on the project, super producer Dr. Dre is back to lend his hands and voice, producing and rapping on the "R.E.D. Album". And Game couldn’t be more thrilled to work with his mentor again stating, “Dre is a hip hop legend and one of the reasons I’m making music. To be working so closely with him again…man, I don’t even have words to describe it.” Game is now ready to let the world hear the "R.E.D. Album" saying it’s shaping up to be the biggest of his career, “my two favorite producers are helping me with the direction of this album, I couldn’t be in a better position.

As one of hip-hop's most rated, but often uncredited musical powerhouses, Keak Da Sneak delivers another classic interview, in preparation for his new Mobb Boss album coming on May 18th.

Other highlights from the show include:

The Alchemist takes a rare step away from the production boards to spend time with us, delivering an epic 40 minute interview. We talk Gangrene, Step Brothers, Dilated Peoples, Madlib, Eminem, Detox and more in this lively and free flowing head-to-head with every rappers beat-making poster boy. They are saying Dr. Dre's Detox is ready and has a release date - will Alchemist reveal a secret?

Rhymefest is an artist whose talent is appreciated by hip hop fans and non-hip hop fans worldwide. But has he been given the credit and recognition that he deserves? In this blockbuster interview, we take a journey which is enlightening, intelligent and at times, tragic. We discuss politics and his meeting with UK politician and leader of the Conservative Party, David Cameron - an interesting insight, especially in the light of the forthcoming UK elections. He reflects upon how his music has been banned from Shade45 because of politics and black-listed by UK problem-man DJ Semtex, who then got the entire BBC to outlaw Fest's songs because of his comments regarding amateur UK group, SAS. We also talk about him being an unofficial member of Little Brother, Alligator Boots, Common's new album, Charles Hamilton and much more. The whole interview went where no other Rhymefest interview will.

Consequence has a new album, ConsTV, on the way, executively produced by his mentor Kayne West and his cousin Q-Tip. The amount of energy this guy radiates is phenomenal and you will find it hard not to be inspired by the realistic optimism flowing through his voice. We talk Q-Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, Kayne West and much more in a bright, sunshine-filled, spring's day of an interview.

Tanya Morgan are with us in the form of highly successful wordsmith, Don Will. We discuss his new album High Fidelity, an album inspired by the cult film of the same name. news Exclusive Interview With Shaun Boothe - By : Jonathan - April 7, 2010

Hip-Hop is always revolved around many elements of life with poverty being a strong, spoken theme in hip-hop. Considering the circumstances and history of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, highly regarded as one of the greatest written songs of all time, it’s quite shocking that no hip-hop artist has incorporated the “I’m just a poor boy, nobody loves me, he’s just a poor boy from a poor family” world renowned line into a hit single – until now.

Toronto, Canada buzzing artist Shaun Boothe is the perfect fit for such a themed single and proves so in this Dubcnn exclusive interview, explaining to us why he’s the underdog on his latest single, “Poor Boy” which is in regular rotation on both MTV and mainstream Canadian radio. With all the odds stacked against him, whether he is fighting on the undercard or in the main event, Shaun Boothe is coming out swinging – and he is betting the house on himself.

Canadian hip-hop veteran and successful recording artist Kardinal Offishall jumped on the remix and gave the song the final and official stamp as a hit record. There is a lot more to Shaun than just the underdog feeling – he is a conceptual, deep and intellectual artist – and such qualities shine through on his collaboration with New York MC Talib Kweli, “Concepts” which we discuss below.

You can’t talk Toronto without speaking Drake, so Dubcnn gets Shaun Boothe to discuss Drake and his career, and whether or not Shaun has had the opportunity to meet Drake and if so, what that experience was like.

After some controversy surrounded Shaun a few years ago and his “Reporter” song and music video allegedly having the general idea stolen by multi-platinum artist Chamillionaire, Shaun decided to forego the popular “beef” road often taken in hip-hop in order to gain notoriety. No, Shaun wanted to get his name and music out “the right way” – with good music.

Moreover, granted, Shaun has succeeded, especially with his “Unauthorized Biography Series” which sees Shaun rap the biographies of major figures in history. This has gone beyond your normal series or notoriety gained as the series has even reached and impressed Diddy, Swizz Beats and the families of Muhammad Ali & James Brown – more on that below.

We have a very special drop for all the West Coast Hip-Hop heads today. A few days ago we received the "Rhymes Within Reason" project, a 10-track EP collaboration between West Covina, CA, rapper Trek Life and up and coming producer J. Bizness (Illregular Instrumentals) from Ontario, CA.

Trek Life should be no stranger to our visitors, you've seen him collaborate with dubcnn regulars Bishop Lamont and Mykestro. Together with J. Bizness, he created a combination of raw West Coast edge mixed with classic Hip-Hop soul, the fruit of 5+ years of chemistry between the two.

With Trek Life as the main emcee, this album also features rhymes and vocals from Mykestro, Oddisee, Wyann Vaughn, Richard Wright and Ragen Fykes. Combining a true West Coast sound with hard drums and gritty chops, J. news Dr. Dre Confirms Detox Single With Jay-Z (Video) - By : Nima - April 6, 2010

Dr. Dre has literally had the internet going nuts in the past week, ever since rumours started circulating of the first official "Detox" single being around the corner, in form of a collaboration with none other than Jay-Z.

While fans have become weary of getting excited for "Detox" over and over again without it coming to fruition, the craze has hit home once again and the Doctor's long awaited album is the number one topic amongst Hip-Hop fans all over.

After a picture of Dr. Dre and Jay-Z in the studio leaked a few days ago (see to your left), the song was confirmed to be real. Shortly after, Interscope boss Jimmy Iovine made it official when he announced that the song was called "Under Pressure".

Yesterday, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine appeared on CNBC for an interview about the "Beats by Dr. Dre" headphones and 6:40 minutes into the interview, Dr. Dre himself confirms the Jay-Z collaboration and announces that he is pushing to get "Detox" out this year. Watch the interview below:

Dr. Dre CNBC Interview - Talks "Detox" Single With Jay-Z

(Is it me, or does the good Doc often look very uncomfortable in front of cameras?)

However, fans shouldn't be too quick to get their hopes up for "Detox" to drop this year. Dr. Dre also spoke to the Boston Herald, here is an excerpt of the interview:

"But when asked if “Detox” would appear before next year, he was noncommital. “I’m on my slow creep right now,” Dre said. “But then I’m gonna come hit ’em with the tsunami.”"

It looks like we're going to have to play the waiting game once again. Bring on "Under Pressure", Dre! We got you!

However, Kurupt isn't one to let his fans wait without blessing them with something to bump. A new record has leaked, a record Kurupt did with East Coast super-producer Dame Grease.

news Damizza Visits Nate Dogg And Gives Update On His Status - By : Nima - April 4, 2010

One of the most tragic stories to hit the music industry in the last few years is without a doubt that of Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale. The legendary singer blessed his fans with wonderful and timeless music for over a decade, before suffering from two strokes within a one-year period.

Since then, details on his condition have been scarce and Nate Dogg's supporters have been desperately trying to find out how he is doing and whether he will ever be able to make music again. Dubcnn just received an E-Mail from our good friend Damion "Damizza" Young, who recently visited Nate Dogg, letting us know Nate's current status.

Dubcnn would like to thank Damizza for finally providing information on Nate Dogg and for reaching out to dubcnn to let the world know. Here is the message:

"I finally reached Nate Dogg’s mom (thru Warren), Ms. Ruth, and she invited me to visit Nate anytime at the facility he’s in — I went the same day, April 2. I was allowed to spend six hours with him. Not only were my biggest hits with Nate, he is my friend and my strongest mentor/supporter.

When he first heard me rap he said, “Damizza, if somebody has a fu**ing problem with you tell them to call me ... you have my number – I don’t care who you give it to. And I’ll tell them to s**k my dick (sorry Ms. Ruth, I gotta just tell the truth).” That is Nate’s sense of humor.

It hurt me deeply to see my friend in such a state and I told him “there are many people who don’t know where you are or what condition you’re in.” I asked his Mom and him if he had heard music in a long time. Nate’s way of communicating is to look up if it’s a “Yes” and to the side if it’s a “No.” He looked at me with saddened eyes and looked to the side.

I took him, in his wheelchair, to a computer and played him all the songs we’ve done together. His Mom was surprised because all the records Nate and I did were positive ones that expressed his true feelings. I played him “Music and Me.” I played him “Wake Up.” And “Where I Wanna Be.” I also sung him an unreleased record we had done just for fun ... and his face lit up and he laughed, as he is able.

Although it was sad to see my friend in this state I had to stay strong and keep my focus positive (for both of us). He is steps away from speaking again and when I asked him in our classic inside-joke kinda way, “let’s make a deal ...” I said “I’ll bring you your catalogue, headphones and a CD player if you just try to talk again.” He looked up and signaled “Yes!”

I go back in two weeks and I hope that his listening to his music helps bring him back from whatever space he’s in. God knows, in my darkest times, HE was the one who pulled ME out.

I want to thank Snoop, Kurupt, Warren, Butch and all of his real friends and family who have visited him since his stroke; I KNOW what it’s meant to Nate because, as I mentioned their names, his face lit up.

I thank Ms Ruth for just letting me see my friend, and I am honored that she gave me the following statement to release to his fans, friends, and the public.
" - Damion "Damizza" Young

To Nate's Friends & Fans

"Nathaniel Hale's (aka Nate Dogg) mother Ruth and his entire family would first like to thank all his friends, fans, and acquaintances for their prayers, well wishes, cards, thoughts and anything you may have said or done during this trying time."

"For those who don't know, Nate suffered a major stroke in September 2008, his second in a one-year period. At the present time, Nate is alert and aware although he is unable to speak and has no use of his hands and feet, he is responding by eye movement. As to be expected, he has moments of despair and sadness, but we believe that with God, all things are possible. We continue to trust God for Nate’s progress. We ask that you continue to respect his privacy as he strives to get better. We solicit your continued prayers."

news Cinematic Music's Smoke DZA Drops "Divine Music" Video - By : Nima - April 1, 2010

Most of the dubcnn visitors will probably think of the same name when they read Cinematic Music Group: Nipsey Hussle. The music label of Johnny Shipes is one of the reasons why Nipsey was able to obtain the status of the next West Coast superstar as fast as he did.

Harlem rapper Smoke DZA is another artist coming up out of the same umbrella. He dropped his solo mixtape "Substance Abuse" late last year, which features Nipsey Hussle on several tracks, along with Devin The Dude, Corey Gunz, Curren$y amongst others.

One of the tracks on there was "Divine Music", to which the video dropped last night. The track was produced by Soul Nana of The System, who loyal dubcnn visitors will be familar with from his earlier work with Bishop Lamont among others.

The visuals really bring the track to life, as you get to see Harlem through the eyes of Smoke DZA, make sure to watch below:

Smoke DZA - Divine Music (Video)

Expect big things from Smoke DZA and the rest of the Cinematic Music Group!
